Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 — The Wrong Role

Chapter 1 — The Wrong Role

Millar didn't even realize when his life had gone off-script.

One moment, he was lying on his bed, lazily scrolling through a half-read romance novel. The next… he woke up in a room that wasn't his.

The ceiling was too high. The sheets were too soft. And the silence—too heavy.

He sat up slowly, his head throbbing as unfamiliar memories poured in like a broken dam.

"...Andru… Chloe… marriage contract…"

His breath hitched.

"No way…"

This wasn't just any story.

It was that novel—the one he never finished.

And worst of all…

"I'm… Millar?"

The villain.

Millar staggered to the mirror.

The face staring back at him was sharp, handsome… and cold. The kind of face readers loved to hate.

In the novel, Millar was the younger brother. The favored one. The one who had everything handed to him—love, attention, even Chloe's heart.

And yet, he lost everything.

Why?

Because he refused to marry her.

Because he pushed her away.

Because he underestimated… how much she could change.

Millar clenched his fists.

"I don't even know the full plot…"

All he remembered was the ending.

He gets thrown out.

Left alone.

And dies… on the street.

A bitter, meaningless end.

"…That's not happening to me."

There was a knock on the door.

"Second Young Master, the car is ready."

Millar froze.

Second Young Master.

So it begins.

As he walked through the grand hallway, memories aligned with reality.

The servants bowed.

The paintings on the wall.

The quiet tension in the house.

Andru… his older brother… was nowhere to be seen.

Millar's chest tightened slightly.

Even without meeting him, he could already feel it.

The imbalance.

The unfairness.

"Millar!"

A warm, familiar voice called out.

He turned.

And there she was.

Chloe.

She stood under the sunlight, her long hair catching the light, her eyes bright—but only when looking at him.

Not Andru.

Not anyone else.

Only him.

In the original story, this girl loved him completely.

Trusted him.

Chose him.

And he… rejected her.

"You're late," Chloe said, crossing her arms, but there was no real anger in her tone.

Millar stared at her.

So this is her… before everything breaks.

"…Sorry," he said quietly.

Chloe blinked.

That wasn't the response she expected.

For a moment, something strange flickered in her eyes.

Curiosity.

And something deeper.

Something… dangerous.

Millar looked away first.

He couldn't afford to think about that.

Because he knew what was coming.

The accident.

The vegetative state.

The forced marriage.

And the moment where everything changes.

In the original story…

He walked away.

This time…

"…I won't," he murmured under his breath.

Chloe tilted her head.

"Did you say something?"

Millar met her eyes.

And for the first time—

He didn't see just a character.

He saw the future.

"No," he said softly.

"But I will soon."

Far away, in a quiet room—

Andru stood alone.

Watching.

Waiting.

As always.

The story had already begun.

But this time…

The villain wasn't going to follow the script.
