Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Higher Levels

[The Sharingan is mainly divided into five stages: the One-Tomoe, Two-Tomoe, Three-Tomoe Sharingan; the Mangekyō Sharingan; and the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. As for levels beyond that, they cannot be awakened unless one is Indra.]

Beyond the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan… there were actually higher levels?

Madara stood by the Naka River, his brow furrowed. This was a secret that not even he knew!

Even the Eternal Mangekyō had only been awakened after Izuna gave him his eyes. There were no records of it in the Uchiha clan's history either.

However… "cannot be awakened unless one is Indra"? But Indra was the ancestor of the Uchiha clan, the eldest son of the Sage of Six Paths.

Did that mean that later generations of Uchiha simply couldn't awaken those higher levels of the Sharingan, which was why he had never heard of them?

Just how many more secrets about the Uchiha were there that he didn't know? And what exactly were those higher levels of the Sharingan?

---

[In a dark cave somewhere in a Future Timeline]

The aged, decrepit Uchiha Madara lifted his eyelids. His frail body leaned against a chair, a hint of confusion on his face.

Higher level of Sharingan? That should be referring to the Rinnegan.

He had always believed that awakening the Rinnegan was due to the power of Hashirama's cells. After all, it was only after transplanting Hashirama's cells and fusing the powers of the Senju and Uchiha that he had finally reached that level.

But now the Sky Screen was saying that unless one was Indra, it couldn't be awakened?

Then how had he awakened it?

What exactly was his relationship with his ancestor, Indra?

[When a typical Uchiha awakens their eyes, there is only a single tomoe in the pupil. The youngest awakener in history is probably "Edgelord," who awakened at just seven years old after witnessing the massacre of his clan and the death of his parents.]

On the Sky Screen, an image of young Uchiha Sasuke appeared. That small figure stood among the corpses, his eyes filled with terror.

[Although many people often joke that Sasuke is the worst-performing Indra of his generation—witnessing the annihilation of his entire clan yet only awakening a single-tomoe Sharingan, and even entering a cognitive protection mechanism due to the intense psychological shock, remaining unaware that he had already awakened his eyes for several years.]

[But in reality, the previous generation's Indra, Uchiha Madara, did not awaken his Sharingan until the age of fifteen. Yet that did not hinder him from later becoming the "Asura" who shook the entire Shinobi World.]

The elderly Madara frowned at those words. 'I am… Indra?'

And the Sky Screen was even pointing out that the next generation's Indra was Uchiha Sasuke?

What exactly did this mean? Wasn't Indra his ancestor? And then who was the previous generation's Indra?

Madara's mood grew increasingly agitated. It seemed the secrets of the Shinobi World were only now being revealed to him, little by little.

[Another Timeline]

Meanwhile, Fugaku was utterly shocked. He turned to look at his son, Sasuke, who was only four years old now.

Apparently, the Sky Screen was saying that his younger son had more talent than his older son. That he was this generation's Indra.

Although he didn't fully understand what that meant, the Sky Screen had said that the previous generation's Indra was Uchiha Madara!

The Asura, a legendary Shinobi who, together with Senju Hashirama, the God of Shinobi, had brought an end to the Warring States period.

A look of joy appeared on Fugaku's face. He walked over, picked up Sasuke, and held him up to examine him carefully.

'So… he is the true prodigy of the Uchiha clan?'

He had been far too neglectful of him. After all, Itachi was the eldest and performed far better than Sasuke. According to his original plan, Sasuke's future role would be nothing more than Itachi's assistant, or perhaps a retainer.

Now, he had to change his attitude. Fugaku stroked Sasuke's face, showing a rare smile.

"Sasuke, Dad has neglected you too much in the past. From now on, I will personally teach you."

Young Sasuke didn't understand what had changed, but his father's recognition made him very happy.

"Yeah!!"

[Konoha, Year 60. Akatsuki Hideout]

Itachi's pupils contracted slightly.

Had Sasuke awakened his eyes back then?

At the time… he didn't seem to have noticed. The memories of that day were a nightmare for him as well.

Having driven his parents to death, having slaughtered his own clan—he stood among the corpses, looked at Sasuke's blank expression, then turned and walked away.

As for whether he had seen the tomoe in Sasuke's eyes?

He couldn't remember clearly.

Some parts of those memories had begun to blur.

Awakening his eyes at age seven… that was indeed the earliest ever. He himself hadn't awakened his Sharingan until he was eight.

However, thinking of the price Sasuke had paid to awaken his eyes, Itachi's heart twinged painfully.

---

At the same time, Konoha village.

Sasuke stood on the training ground, his head lowered, his hair covering his face, obscuring his expression.

"Sasuke…"

Naruto's voice came from the side, filled with worry.

Sasuke didn't respond. The pain inside him had already caused tears to drip silently to the ground.

'Heh! I would rather not have this so-called earliest awakening.'

Awakening a single tomoe had already required enduring such a thing.

What about later? When he awakened more tomoe, or even the Mangekyō? The Sky Screen had already shown his Mangekyō's abilities.

He raised his head and looked at the Sky Screen.

'What kind of pain will I have to experience next?'

Kakashi watched him and sighed inwardly.

'This child carries far too much.'

[There are also those who awaken directly with Two-Tomoe, such as Uchiha Itachi, who awakened them in anger after witnessing his companions being killed, or Uchiha Obito, who awakened the Two-Tomoe after witnessing Hatake Kakashi get injured.]

[These individuals seem to have distorted personalities and extreme emotional volatility. They could be described as the ideal vessels for Sharingan awakening. Even within the Uchiha clan, they are extremely rare—truly gifted prodigies.]

[Konoha, Year 50. Hokage Office]

Minato stood by the window, thinking of the boy in goggles who always shouted about becoming the Hokage, his expression darkened.

"Obito…"

He whispered the name, a deep sadness flashing in his eyes.

Although Obito was always late and loved causing trouble, he was a kind-hearted child, and yet he had tragically died at the Kannabi Bridge.

"That child, his talent was actually this exceptional?"

"Awakening two tomoe directly… an extremely rare existence even within the Uchiha clan."

The boy everyone mocked as a dead-last actually had such potential.

But… he never got to live to see that potential realized.

He was the fastest in the Shinobi World, yet he had failed to protect his own students.

'Obito… Rin…'

"Minato."

Kushina's voice came from behind him. She gently wrapped her arms around Minato's waist and pressed her face against his back.

"Don't be sad."

Minato held her hand and fell silent.
