Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: That Eye!

Sasuke's Mangekyō was the easiest to recognize—it had already appeared several times on the Sky Screen, and everyone identified it as the eye at the bottom left.

As for the other Mangekyō Sharingans, most people in the Shinobi World did not recognize them.

---

[Konoha, Year 60, Hokage Office]

When he saw the Mangekyō Sharingan pattern identical to the one in his memory, Hiruzen shot to his feet, his expression changing drastically.

He stared intently at the six Mangekyō on the Sky Screen, his gaze landing on the one on the middle right—the sickle shape rotating within the silhouette of a mask.

"That eye!!"

"The eye that controlled the Nine-Tails during the rampage… it's exactly the same!!!"

His voice trembled with incredulous shock.

Whose Mangekyo Sharingan could this possibly be?

In Hiruzen's mind, memories of that bloodstained night over a decade ago surfaced unbidden—the roar of the Nine-Tails, the devastation of the village, the sacrifices of Minato, Kushina, and Biwako.

He remembered very clearly: the pattern in the Nine-Tails' eyes that night was identical to this eye on the Sky Screen.

Who… who was this person?

How many more secrets was the Uchiha clan hiding?

Unfortunately, the person on the Sky Screen was wearing a mask, making it impossible to identify who it was.

But since the Uchiha had been annihilated without ever discovering him, it was highly likely that he was an Uchiha who had drifted outside the village.

Yet the Shinobi World was simply too vast—without a specific target, finding this mastermind behind the scenes would be difficult.

Nevertheless, Hiruzen believed that with enough patience, he would eventually uncover the truth.

[Konoha, Year 52]

The Uchiha recognized the Mangekyō composed of three Taiji patterns—that was the shape their clan head had recently revealed.

But soon, everyone's gaze fell on another eye.

Again, it was the one on the middle right—the sickle shape within the silhouette of a mask.

"That eye… the eye that controlled the Nine-Tails during that incident… it's that one." Yashiro's voice trembled.

"So this person is the one who killed the Fourth Hokage?"

"Is it really someone from the Uchiha?"

"Who is it?!"

Everyone was guessing, but no one knew the answer.

Fugaku stared at that eye, a cold glint flashing in his own.

No matter who they were, for making the Uchiha take the blame for so many years, this debt would be settled sooner or later.

Meanwhile, Shisui stood frozen in place as well. Although his clansmen had never seen his Mangekyō, he knew very well that the eye shaped like a four-bladed windmill represented him.

What in the world was this Sky Screen? It had such a clear grasp of the secrets of the Shinobi World. He had originally been skeptical of the content being broadcast, but now he was fully convinced.

'Sigh… has the risk of clan annihilation truly been eliminated?'

'Has the rift between the Uchiha and the village truly been bridged?'

[Konoha, Year 60]

At the Akatsuki base, the atmosphere was somewhat delicate. All the Akatsuki members had turned their gazes toward Tobi.

They weren't fools. Although the mask looked different in color, and Tobi hadn't activated his Mangekyō, the exposed eye couldn't deceive anyone.

Deidara was the first to speak, his tone carrying a hint of amusement: "Yo… Tobi, I didn't expect you to be hiding so much. So you're from the same clan as Itachi! And you even have a Mangekyō Sharingan."

Deidara recalled how, when he first joined the Akatsuki, he had been caught by Itachi's Mangekyō Sharingan. If Tobi had the same eyes, didn't that mean he could also defeat him in an instant?

Pain, or rather Nagato, also turned his gaze toward Obito. So this was the shape of the Sharingan beneath "Uchiha Madara's" mask? He just didn't know what its ability was.

Obito stood there, maintaining his usual comical pose as always, but the face beneath the mask had completely frozen.

'It's over, it's over, it's over…'

The Sky Screen was going to expose him completely!

"Oh my, what are you all talking about senpai?" Obito said in an exaggerated tone, "Sharingan? Mangekyō? I have no idea what you mean!"

Deidara rolled his eyes: "Who are you trying to fool? The Sky Screen already showed it. That mask is exactly the same as yours except for the color! That eye belongs to you!"

"No, no, no!" Obito waved his hands frantically, "That's someone else's! It has nothing to do with me!"

"Then why are you wearing an identical mask?"

"Coincidence! Pure coincidence. I just bought this mask on a whim in Amegakure."

The Akatsuki members naturally didn't believe him, but they didn't press further either. After all, in the Akatsuki, everyone had their secrets.

Only Itachi, standing at the edge of the group, looked at Tobi with a glimmer of contemplation in his eyes.

Was Tobi… really Uchiha Madara?

Or was he someone else?

Regardless, he had memorized the shape of that eye on the Sky Screen.

Someday, he would find out the truth.

[Konoha, Year 20]

Tobirama gazed at the Sky Screen, astonishment welling up inside him.

'Six… There are this many Mangekyō Sharingan in the future?!'

The Mangekyō with tomoe connected end to end, their heads featuring a hollow circular structure—that belonged to that bastard Madara. But Tobirama couldn't recognize any of the others.

In his memory, throughout the history of the Uchiha clan, only a handful had ever awakened the Mangekyō. The only ones he had seen were Madara and his younger brother Izuna.

Yet on the Sky Screen, there were six of them. This was a force capable of changing the tide of a war.

Thankfully, during the Warring States period, only Madara and his brother Izuna possessed the Mangekyō Sharingan. If all six of these had appeared in the same era, even his elder brother might not have been able to withstand them.

The Senju clan might have ended up on the losing side of the war.

But if the Uchiha had this many Mangekyō in the future, then… why were they annihilated?

Tobirama couldn't understand.

[Konoha, Year One. Banks of the Naka River]

Hashirama and Madara stood side by side, looking at the six Sharingan on the Sky Screen.

"Madara, that one on the middle left—that's yours, isn't it?"

Hashirama pointed at the eye composed of rectangular shapes.

Madara nodded, a complex emotion flickering in his eyes.

"Mm. It's mine."

He hadn't expected the Sky Screen to expose his eye as well.

Hashirama continued: "There are actually this many Mangekyō in the future?"

"The Uchiha clan seems to be thriving!"

Madara was silent for a few seconds, then said: "Izuna's isn't there."

Hashirama paused.

"The Sky Screen seems to be only listing a few," Madara said, his voice tinged with desolation, "Izuna's eyes were beautiful too."

Hashirama patted his shoulder without speaking. He knew that Izuna was an eternal pain in Madara's heart.

"But Madara, whose eye is that? It's also quite beautiful."

Hashirama pointed at the eye with the Taiji pattern at the bottom right.

Madara looked carefully, then shook his head.

"I don't know. But it definitely belongs to an Uchiha."

Hearing that, Hashirama immediately rolled his eyes.

[Konoha, Year 60]

Kakashi stood on the training ground, his gaze lingering for a long time on the six eyes in the sky.

If Obito hadn't sacrificed himself like that… he probably would have awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan too.

After all, his talent had been recognized by the Sky Screen.

Kakashi still didn't know that his own left eye was also a Mangekyō. After all, when it had awakened back then, Obito had killed those shinobis. Kakashi, however, had collapsed on the ground from chakra exhaustion, so he had no memory of what had happened at that time.
