Chapter 1 - Angus De Angelo

K-city, capital of the Federation.

Hailed as the biggest and the most beautiful city in the world, K-city was a jewel of civilization. Skyscrapers everywhere, one taller after another as if in perpetual competition to see who will reach the heaven. What makes this city truly beautiful wasn't because of the majestic architecture, those beautiful skyscrapers piercing through the sky, the airborne railways but how nature seemed to blend in, a mixture between green and the advanced technology, the air was purer. Some skyscrapers were covered in beautiful exotic plants, some have garden on each strategic open floors, some small man-made forest filled with exotic plants, overall it was beautiful.

Lying on the westside of K-city was a small district, buildings here weren't tall, the tallest ones could barely reach ten floors, they called this place 'The Slum,' and from its name you could guess what kind of people live here.

Night arrived, the giant moon and its satellite illumined the already brilliant city below.

In a corner of the slum existed a rundown tavern.

From the outside it looks disturbing, gloomy and unwelcoming. Stacked stones and hardwooden beams make up most of the building's outer structure.

It was difficult to see through the dusty windows, but the ominous atmosphere from within can be felt outside.

Normally, this place should have been bustling with activity, filled with people but tonight it wasn't, the reason lay in the presence of the two individuals sitting quietly around a table enjoying a bottle of vodka.

The normally professional Hans, the bartender and owner of this place who had seen his fair share, living in the slum for so many years couldn't help but tremble but dare not to show it, afraid he might offend those behemoths. The identities of those two was special.

The Blood Emperor; Angus De Angelo and the Lightning Lord Cassius Kidd, two of the twelve overlords in the current world, no wonder Hans was so tense.

'To think they would visit today of all time. Well, forget it, it an honor to receive such disguinshed guests.' Hans shook his head as he focused on polishing the glass.

Knowing their origins it wasn't surprising to see them often in the slums, it could be said that it was thanks to them the current slum still exist and was much cleaner with new buildings, let's not dwell on this matter now.

Meanwhile, at the two overlord's table.

''Sigh! I miss the old days.'' the gray haired man with piercing red eyes mumbled. His face wasn't handsome but manly with strong jawline, looking at him you could give him easily forty but in reality he was past seventy, awakened individuals tend to live longer and age slower, the stronger you are, the longer you'll live. Even when sitting you could see how tall he was, his height reached two meter with robust physique, is name Angus De Angelo, the Guildmaster of the Blood Guild, one of the twelve guilds or clans if you prefer.

Sitting across from him was someone whose physique wasn't much different from his, expect for the eye patch covering his right eye, his remaining eye were piercing blue, the leader of the Blue Eyes Guild; Cassius Kidd.

Both men were products of this place, they rose from the bottom to the top, now enjoying endless glory but sometimes they would slip into the slum, visiting various places to unwind and remember the old days.

''Well, I do share the sentiment my old friend. Nowadays kids don't know the meaning of hardship anymore, they have grown complacent.'' Cassius lamented while shaking his head, he played with the content of his glass, swirling the liquid within.

Upon hearing about kids, Angus could not help but frown, this didn't go unnoticed by his friend.

''What is troubling you my friend? Let's me guess, you're still having headache about your sons isn't it?"

''Do not bring those two up. Those foolish sons of mine seems to never grow, sigh!'' Angus shook his head in exasperation, clearly troubled over his sons.

Chuckling Cassius casually said, ''It is why I don't have a children.''

''Isn't it because you're impotent?" Angus fired back with a mocking smile, making his friend's face darken.

''Do you wish to be roasted?"

''Do you wish to turn into a dried up corpse?"

For a moment, invisible spark flew between them before both tactfully retreated, before the two laughed without restraint.

''Hahahahaha!"

''Hahahahaha!"

After laughing to their heart's content, they stopped and resumed their discussion, switching to another subject.

''Will you come at the next world's summit?" Cassius asked half hoping for a positive answer. Although, they are members of the twelve overlords, the two were really close, they didn't try scheming against each other like the other guilds, so having an ally during the meeting was always a good thing but recently this crazy guy didn't even bother coming.

Angus chuckled before downing his glass of vodka, the strong liquid slide through his oesophagus to spread through his system, shaking the empty glass, Cassius served him another shot of vodka, while playing with the glass like Cassius previously did he finally answered.

''Nah, I won't be coming. The world is at peace right now. Coming to the meeting is simply an act of flaunting one wealth. Sigh! I remember when those meetings did serve to real purpose, strategizing against the invaders but now it became a show of power how much one did make during the previous year, the valuable artifact excavated from dungeons and dimensional rifs. The world summit has lost its purpose. I'm not some baboon that needs to constantly show who has the biggest dick.''

Cassius didn't refute anything his friend said because it was the truth. He could only sigh, shrugging his shoulders in resignation.

''That is also a form of an entertainment.''

''I know but I'm tired of it. I just wish to retire and live the rest of my life leisurely. I'm retiring.''

''Retirement, huh? The same thing you've been saying since a while but you haven't done it because your sons still haven't decided of the winner yet?"

Angus didn't answer, simply finished his drink. Cassius continued unperturbed.

''Why not simply choose and end of the matter?"

''I could have done it if it was that easy. It is why I came up with that game, the one with the most achievement will inherit the guild, I made them both vice guild masters but, sigh.'' Angus massaged his temple in frustration. How could twins who were inseparable when young, they were so lovely back them but now they had turned into something he couldn't recognize, ah he didn't want to think about it.

Cassius could see his friend's frustration and chuckled, 'You are having it hard Angus.'
