Chapter 290 - Chapter 287: This is 3D!

To the right of the game's start screen, a menu bar appeared.

pokémon 3d world uses an automatic saving mode.

Regardless of whether you successfully pass a level or return, it will automatically save.

Therefore, there is no concept of 'continue game' or 'restart'; the game menu only has one option: 'Please press the A Key to start the game'.

Of course, there are multiple save slots. If it's a new game, it will default to the first slot. If you want to switch to other save slots later, after clicking [Start Game], there will be a dropdown option for players to choose from.

Currently, everyone was starting this game for the first time, so it was directly saved to Save Slot 1.

The game officially began.

The screen suddenly went black.

This was followed by a mandatory opening CG (which could be skipped after the second playthrough):

As the scene began,

The cheerful BGM of Pokémon started playing.

In a sun-drenched green forest, a group of Sawsbuck ran through the mountains.

Following them were Starly soaring under the sun.

Their wings cast a swift shadow on the ground, startling the Greedent below.

The Greedent, with their fluffy, long tails, hugged the hazelnuts in their hands and jumped onto the trees.

A group of small Greedent looked up at the sky, and then the wind blew, causing leaves to fall.

At the same time, countless Hoppip were blown into the sky, fluttering down like falling snow.

The camera descended from the sky, landing above the forest, then moving from above the forest to the grassland.

In the distance, a Snorlax was sleeping soundly, while closer by, Pikachu and a few of its companions were eating on the grass.

Unlike what Uesugi Noboru and his friends had imagined—

This entire segment was presented in 2D animation, feeling more like watching an animated spin-off.

During the playback of this CG, the four children present were constantly screaming. Every time a Pokémon appeared, they would jump and shout its name.

By the time the camera settled and Pikachu appeared on screen, everyone was extremely excited.

"Pika Pika."

Pikachu squeezed some ketchup into its mouth with its small paw.

When it looked up, its mouth was covered in ketchup.

"Pika Pika~" Pikachu looked satisfied, sticking out its tongue to lick its lips.

Reiko also imitated Pikachu's voice, "Pika Pika, Pikachuu Pika (@^_^@)"

"Ah~ So cute!"

"I want a Pikachu too!"

Meanwhile, Charmander was stuffing a hamburger into its mouth, and as soon as it swallowed, it spat out a burst of fire.

"Roar roar~"

Bulbasaur was crawling nearby, basking in the sun, and the seed on its back seemed to show signs of sprouting.

And Squirtle was holding a hamburger, nibbling at it in small bites nearby.

Although there were no humans in the scene, it was clear from the picnic table and the food on it that their trainers must be nearby.

Just then, Squirtle, who was hiding in the shade eating a hamburger, suddenly looked up, a look of panic in its eyes.

The camera switched from its eyes to the sky.

A ball of fire was burning in the white clouds, rapidly falling.

"Ah! It's a meteor!" Fat Bear exclaimed, pointing at the TV!

"Danger!"

Reiko clasped her hands to her chest, praying for the Pokémon.

The meteor streaked across the sky, heading directly towards them.

The fireball rapidly grew larger, and the sky above the forest was tinged with a fiery red hue.

The Pokémon showed panicked expressions in their eyes, but for a moment, they couldn't react.

"Pika!"

Pikachu's fur stood on end, and its tail bristled.

"Boom!"

The entire screen went white.

...

The BGM suddenly changed, becoming an epic animated score with a grand and impactful feel.

Just as everyone was worried about the Pokémon, Pikachu and its friends were unexpectedly drawn into a strange vortex.

The vortex was colorful, shimmering with an unusual glow.

Following that, the originally 2D Pikachu's entire body began to expand, as if it were a flattened piece of clay being pulled up by a hand, growing a head and body from the 2D plane, finally transforming into a 3D form.

The other Pokémon underwent similar transformations.

Seeing this, the companions were incredibly excited.

"Ah ah! It changed! It changed!"

"From 2D Pokémon to 3D Pokémon!"

"It's starting! It's too interesting!"

The children were filled with boundless joy; this was the first time they had seen such a novel visual effect.

This transition from 2D to 3D was partly for the plot, and partly a way to showcase how amazing pokeni's art and technical teams were.

Although the effect was still a galaxy away from Aoki Haruhi's previous life, who could blame them when the whole world hadn't really opened its eyes at this point in time?

So, when the children saw this 2D to 3D transition effect, they were utterly stunned.

"So cool, it just went from 2D to 3D in an instant?"

"Yes."

After the spatial vortex closed, the screen returned to normal from a white state.

Only this time, the entire world had changed—

It was still a green forest, but the trees, flowers, plants, and rocks in the forest, and even the Hoppip still flying in the sky, all had a 3D Three-dimensional.

The game's visuals suddenly became much more refined.

The colors were also richer.

The distant sunlight shining into the camera even created a halo effect of rainbow bubbles, making one's eyes ache.

After the camera rotated once in the sky, it finally landed back on Pikachu and its friends.

"Pika Pika…"

The Pokémon were bewildered, wobbling as they stood up, looking around, still unable to comprehend.

Just then, a shadow fell before them.

"Caw~~"

Charmander instinctively shielded its companions behind it, then breathed fire from its mouth, on full alert.

The camera rotated, revealing an Owl Knight standing before them.

It was literally an Owl Knight.

This character was created by the pokeni team specifically for pokémon 3d world.

It wore knight armor, held a shield and a sharp sword, and had a pair of large wings trailing behind it, looking majestic.

Although the model didn't have many polygons, it was clearly recognizable as a knight.

"Wow, is this a new Pokémon?" Skinny Monkey asked in confusion.

"Probably."

"I heard that after Pokémon 3D is released, pokeni will add these new Pokémon to the next Pokémon game in the future."

"Wow, that's great."

...

The Owl Knight placed its claws on its chest and saluted the Pokémon.

"Hoo hoo, hoo hoo…"

It conversed with the Pokémon from the 2D world.

Unfortunately, it wasn't human language, so the children playing the game were completely bewildered.

They found the situation both realistic and funny.

"Are they going to communicate in Pokémon language the whole time?"

"Then how are we supposed to understand the story?"

"But that's the charm of Pokémon. It would be stranger if Pokémon spoke human language, right?"

In any case, the children laughed heartily and continued watching the unfolding story.

After the Owl Knight cooed and chirped with them for a bit, the screen's colors suddenly changed.

From color to black and white.

At the same time, the scene suddenly cut, returning to the Owl Knight's past memories.

This was a world with many Pokémon, named Potela.

In this world, Pokémon were all displayed in 3D form.

Meanwhile, among the Pokémon, there was a legendary beast named Ophelia, guarding the peace of the world.

Ophelia had pure white feathers, resembling a phoenix with large white wings, but it had a rainbow-colored horn on its head.

And its tail was shaped like spreading tree branches.

The legendary beast Ophelia was truly beautiful.

It nurtured the growth of the Pokémon in the forest and maintained the order of the entire world.

Then, one day, a black shadow, Lucifer, descended upon this world.

From its silhouette, it looked like a fierce beast emitting black flames.

The black shadow attacked Ophelia and infected it. A terrifying and evil virus immediately swept through all of Potela.

Under such circumstances, Ophelia, still retaining a shred of sanity, used its last strength to pull Pikachu and its friends into this world before it completely lost control, entrusting the Owl Knight to guide them.

The Pokémon from the 2D world seemed immune to this strange virus, and perhaps they could find true magical power to defeat Lucifer.

Pikachu and its friends carried a heavy responsibility; they were Potela's last hope.

...

This entire segment was presented through animated CG with narration. To create this CG, pokeni's art team spent nearly a month.

Fortunately, the resulting effect was quite good.

Seeing this, the children felt their blood boiling.

The story was actually quite simple, even a bit cliché.

Chosen saviors arrive in a 3D Different World and embark on a hero's journey to defeat the demon king.

Only this time, the heroes were Pokémon.

Aoki Haruhi and the Pokémon team initially debated for a long time on the plot design, whether to use more dramatic, twist-filled storylines to make the game more unique.

In the end, the President overruled all objections and decided to keep everything simple.

pokémon 3d world is a game for all ages, especially children.

Making the plot understandable to them, and reducing unnecessary obscure metaphors and twists, was the top priority.

At the same time, simple, formulaic plots are actually the most effective, proving that most people enjoy this type of story.

Most importantly, the plot of pokémon 3d world isn't crucial; the plot serves the game itself. As long as it can be self-consistent and introduce subsequent levels and gameplay, that's enough.

Look at Nintendo's super mario series next door; it's been around for a hundred years, and it's always about defeating the evil dragon and rescuing the princess.

dragon quest is the same.

This shows that this formulaic plot is correct, most suitable, and most effective.

So, after some discussion, the President personally made the final decision on the game's plot.

...

In fact, just as Aoki Haruhi had envisioned, the children, when playing to this point, didn't find the story uninteresting because it was "cliché." Instead, they were incredibly excited about becoming saviors and bearing a heavy responsibility.

The screen returned to normal colors, and the camera returned to the present—

The Owl Knight finished its narration and saluted Pikachu and its friends again.

"Hoo hoo."

"Pika Pika."

Pikachu patted its chest.

Fat Bear translated, "Great, Owl Knight, leave the rest to us."

The CG playback ended, and the camera returned to the official game.

The screen showed 4 player interfaces, with a prompt in the middle:

"Please use the left and right directional keys or the left and right analog sticks to select your character."

To guide players, the screen also displayed corresponding controller images.

"Oh, operate the analog stick, right?"

Uesugi Noboru nodded and began to move the analog stick.

The children quickly fell into a scramble over who would choose Pikachu.

After some arguing, they decided to play rock-paper-scissors to determine who would choose first.

Ultimately, Uesugi Noboru got Pikachu, Reiko got Bulbasaur, Fat Bear got Charmander, and Skinny Monkey used Squirtle.

...

The game officially began.

The characters lined up and appeared on the main map.

This was pokémon 3d world, the first layer of the game.

The entire first layer was a very simple main map covered in green vegetation.

Although it was called a main map, it was actually quite simple, comparable to the size of a Ludo board for playing board games.

And in the grass, from the starting position, there was a cube standing on the grass.

The cube was a condensed orchard, with three five-pointed stars above it, none of which had been lit up yet.

This orchard was actually the first level of this first layer.

...

So, as the leader (Controller 1), Uesugi Noboru led everyone according to the operational guidance towards the location of the first level.

Before entering the level, there was a beginner's tutorial.

pokeni's beginner's tutorial was quite thorough, first guiding how to use the left analog stick for movement in all directions.

Then it told Uesugi Noboru, "Use the right analog stick to rotate the camera."

Uesugi Noboru nodded and rotated it as instructed.

Immediately, the entire world on the TV screen also began to rotate.

"Wow!"

The companions exclaimed in unison when they saw this.

"Oh my goodness, can this game actually rotate the entire world?"

"This is the first time I've played a game like this, it's so amazing!"

"I know!" Fat Bear shouted definitively, "This is 3D!"
