Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 ~ Obsidian

Night returned to Nocturne like a familiar sin.

The city never truly slept, but after sunset its real face appeared.

Neon lights burned brighter.

Music grew louder.

Secrets moved more freely through the streets.

Luna Vale stood in front of a massive building at the center of downtown.

Above the entrance, glowing black letters spelled one name.

OBSIDIAN

The most exclusive nightclub in Nocturne.

And the most dangerous.

Luxury cars lined the street outside while well-dressed guests waited behind velvet ropes. The bass of heavy music vibrated through the pavement.

Everyone in the city knew one thing.

Obsidian belonged to Brevis Draven.

Luna slipped her hands into the pockets of her coat.

She hadn't planned to come here tonight.

But an envelope had appeared outside her apartment door an hour ago.

Inside it was a single black card.

No message.

Just two silver words.

"Come Tonight."

And at the bottom…

Brevis's signature symbol.

Arrogant man.

Luna walked toward the entrance.

The guards immediately stepped forward.

"Invitation?"

Luna handed them the black card.

The guard's expression changed instantly.

He stepped aside.

"Welcome to Obsidian, miss."

Luna raised an eyebrow.

Apparently Brevis had planned this carefully.

She stepped inside.

---

The interior of Obsidian looked like another world.

Dark marble floors.

Golden lights reflecting across glass walls.

Music pulsed through the air while hundreds of people danced beneath shifting neon colors.

But what caught Luna's attention wasn't the crowd.

It was the balcony above the dance floor.

VIP territory.

Private.

Untouchable.

And standing there…

Watching everything…

Was Brevis Draven.

He leaned casually against the railing, dressed completely in black.

His eyes immediately found her.

Of course they did.

Like he had been waiting.

Luna crossed the dance floor slowly.

People moved around her, laughing and dancing.

But her attention stayed on one person.

Brevis.

By the time she reached the staircase leading to the upper level, two guards were already waiting.

"She's with me," Brevis's voice came from above.

The guards stepped aside instantly.

Luna climbed the stairs.

Each step brought her deeper into his world.

When she reached the balcony, the music sounded quieter.

More distant.

Brevis turned toward her.

His expression carried that same calm confidence.

"You came."

Luna looked around the luxurious lounge.

Leather couches.

Crystal glasses.

Private security standing discreetly nearby.

"You sent a mysterious invitation," she said.

"That usually means trouble."

Brevis smiled faintly.

"That depends on your definition of trouble."

Luna stepped closer.

"So this is where the king sits."

"King?" he repeated.

"Crime lord sounded rude."

Brevis laughed quietly.

"You're honest. I like that."

"I'm not here to impress you."

"Good."

He gestured toward the balcony.

"Look."

Luna stepped beside him.

Below them the entire club pulsed with energy.

Hundreds of people moving together under flashing lights.

"Everything you see here," Brevis said quietly,

"belongs to me."

Luna studied the crowd.

"You mean the club."

"No."

His eyes darkened slightly.

"The city."

Luna turned toward him.

"You're confident."

"I'm accurate."

For a moment they simply looked at each other.

Then Luna asked,

"So why invite me?"

Brevis didn't answer immediately.

Instead he poured two glasses of dark red wine.

He handed one to her.

"Because I'm curious."

"I noticed."

"But curiosity requires proximity."

Luna took the glass.

"And I'm supposed to help satisfy that curiosity?"

Brevis leaned slightly closer.

"Think of it as mutual observation."

Before Luna could answer…

A sharp female voice cut through the air.

"Well, this is interesting."

Both of them turned.

A tall woman stood near the entrance of the VIP lounge.

Her long blonde hair fell perfectly over a black dress that probably cost more than a car.

Her eyes, however, were cold.

And fixed directly on Luna.

She walked toward them slowly.

High heels clicking against the marble floor.

"Brevis," she said smoothly.

"You didn't tell me we had a guest."

Brevis's expression hardened slightly.

"Selene."

The woman smiled faintly.

"I leave for two weeks and suddenly you're entertaining strangers?"

Her gaze slid over Luna with open hostility.

"And she doesn't look like your usual company."

Luna raised an eyebrow.

"Should I feel insulted?"

Selene stepped closer.

"You should feel careful."

Brevis's voice turned colder.

"That's enough."

Selene ignored him.

Her attention remained on Luna.

"Do you even know who he is?"

"Yes."

"And you still came here?"

Luna took a calm sip of wine.

"I was invited."

Selene's smile disappeared.

"You're playing with something dangerous."

Luna shrugged slightly.

"I've heard that before."

For a moment the tension between the two women felt sharp enough to cut glass.

Brevis watched silently.

Amused.

Selene turned back to him.

"You're enjoying this."

"Very much."

She crossed her arms.

"This girl is trouble."

Brevis's eyes moved to Luna again.

"That's what makes it interesting."

Selene's expression darkened.

"You're replacing me?"

Brevis chuckled quietly.

"No one replaces you, Selene."

"Good."

"Because you were never mine to begin with."

That answer clearly irritated her.

Selene turned back toward Luna.

"This city destroys outsiders."

Luna set her empty glass down.

Then she stepped closer to Selene.

Their height difference was small, but the tension was huge.

"Then it's lucky," Luna said softly,

"I'm not an outsider."

Selene's eyes flashed with anger.

Brevis suddenly spoke.

"That's enough for tonight."

His tone carried absolute authority.

Selene glared at Luna one last time.

Then she turned and walked away.

The moment she disappeared, the tension in the room faded.

Luna looked at Brevis.

"Your friends are charming."

Brevis smirked.

"She's not my friend."

"Ex?"

"Something like that."

Luna folded her arms.

"She clearly doesn't like me."

Brevis stepped slightly closer.

"That sounds like her problem."

For a moment they stood very close.

The music below vibrated through the balcony floor.

Brevis studied her face again.

"You handled that well."

"I'm used to jealous women."

His eyebrow lifted.

"That implies experience."

Luna smiled faintly.

"Don't get curious again."

Brevis leaned closer.

Too close.

His voice dropped lower.

"Too late."

Luna met his gaze calmly.

Dangerous tension passed between them.

The kind that could turn into attraction…

Or disaster.

Below them the crowd continued dancing, unaware of the silent battle happening above.

Finally Luna stepped back.

"I should go."

Brevis didn't stop her.

But his eyes followed every step she took toward the stairs.

Just before leaving, Luna glanced back.

"Your city is interesting," she said.

Brevis smiled slowly.

"You haven't seen anything yet."

And somehow…

They both knew this was only the beginning.
