Chapter 1 - The Day My Life Became Content

The camera wasn't supposed to be there.

Raj Singh stared at the cheap second-hand phone mounted on a broken tripod, its cracked lens reflecting his tired face.

The red light blinked.

Recording.

A cold breeze passed through the empty rooftop, carrying the distant noise of traffic, horns, and a barking dog somewhere below.

He swallowed.

"…Okay," he muttered, forcing a smile. "Let's start."

A translucent panel flickered into existence in front of his eyes.

[Divine Broadcast is LIVE]

[Viewers are entering…]

[Constellation 'Watcher of Silent Skies' has joined]

[Constellation 'Laughing Abyss' is

observing your setup]

[Constellation 'Flame That Devours Regret' scoffs at your equipment]

Raj's smile twitched.

"Yeah, yeah… laugh all you want," he muttered under his breath.

Another message popped up.

[Constellation 'Laughing Abyss' finds you mildly entertaining]

[+5 Karma]

"Only five?" Raj frowned. "At least subscribe properly if you're watching."

Silence.

Then—

[Constellation 'Silent Judge of Ruin' is intrigued by your audacity]

[+20 Karma]

"…Okay, that works."

He cleared his throat, straightening his posture.

"Hello guys," he said, slipping into his practiced YouTuber tone.

"My name is Raj Singh, and today—"

His voice paused.

For a second… just a second…

His smile cracked.

Because none of this was normal.

Because two days ago…

He was just another nobody.

Raj lowered his gaze slightly, staring at the invisible messages only he could see.

The glowing panel.

The watching… things.

Gods? Monsters? He didn't even know.

A dry laugh escaped him.

"So… this is the situation I'm in."

His voice dropped, quieter now.

"…And it all started two days ago."

....

Two Days Ago

The road was loud.

Too loud.

Horns blaring, engines roaring, people shouting—just another chaotic evening in a small Indian city.

Raj adjusted the strap of his worn-out bag, walking along the side of the road, his mind far away.

Subscribers… 23.

He exhaled.

"Great," he muttered. "At this rate, I'll become famous in the next hundred years."

A notification buzzed on his phone—another motivational reel.

Some perfect guy with perfect lighting and perfect abs.

"Wake up at 5 AM. Hustle. Grind. No excuses."

Raj scoffed. "Yeah, sure. Let me just fix my life in 24 hours."

He shoved the phone back into his pocket.

That's when he heard it.

A sharp honk.

Too close.

His head snapped up.

A little girl stood in the middle of the road, frozen—her wide eyes locked on the speeding truck rushing toward her.

For a moment—

Everything slowed.

People shouted.

Someone screamed.

But no one moved.

Raj didn't think.

He ran.

"Hey—!"

His hand grabbed her arm, yanking her forward with all the strength he had.

Time snapped back.

The world roared.

And then—

Pain.

A blinding, crushing impact.

The sky flipped.

The ground rushed up.

And everything went dark.

"…System initializing."

A voice.

Cold. Mechanical.

Not human.

Raj's eyes fluttered open.

White ceiling.

Hospital smell.

Beeping machines.

"…What the—"

A sharp headache hit him.

Before he could react—

A glowing panel appeared in front of his face.

[Host has been selected]

[Initializing Self-Evolution System…]

[Condition: Achieve your dreams]

Raj blinked.

"…I hit my head too hard."

He shut his eyes tightly, as if that alone would make it disappear.

A few seconds passed.

He opened them again.

The panel was still there.

Unmoving.

Unchanging.

[Divine Broadcast activated]

[Your life will now be observed]

A chill ran down his spine.

Observed?

"What…?"

More messages flooded in.

[Constellation 'Watcher of Silent Skies' has discovered a new toy]

[Constellation 'Laughing Abyss' is excited]

[Constellation 'Unknown Devourer' is silent… but watching]

Raj's breathing slowed, then quickened again.

His fingers tightened against the hospital bed, the fabric crumpling under his grip.

"…This isn't funny."

His eyes darted around the room.

Nothing.

No one.

Just him… and this thing.

[You have received your first mission]

[Survive]

Silence filled the room.

Heavy.

Unnatural.

Raj stared at the panel… then at his trembling hands.

His thoughts refused to connect.

Nothing made sense.

A system?

Constellations?

Watching him?

His chest tightened as the confusion finally broke through—

"…what the fuck is going on?"

Raj's voice echoed faintly in the quiet hospital room.

No one answered.

The panel didn't react.

The messages didn't stop.

It just… stayed there.

Floating.

Watching.

His chest rose and fell unevenly as he stared at it, his mind trying to reject what his eyes were clearly seeing.

"This is not real…" he whispered.

His fingers tightened around the bedsheet, gripping it as if it could anchor him back to reality.

The panel flickered slightly.

Not disappearing.

Just… reacting.

[Constellation 'Laughing Abyss' finds your confusion amusing]

"…Stop it," Raj muttered under his breath.

He shut his eyes tightly, pressing his head back into the pillow.

"This is just stress… accident… head injury…"

[Constellation 'Watcher of Silent Skies' is observing your denial]

His eyes snapped open.

It was still there.

Unchanged.

Unavoidable.

A sharp breath left his lips as panic began to settle in—not explosive, but slow and suffocating.

"What do you want from me…?" he asked quietly.

No answer came.

Only—

[You have received your first mission]

[Survive]

"…Survive?" Raj repeated, his brows tightening.

"I'm literally in a hospital bed… what do you mean survive?"

The word lingered.

Heavy.

Wrong.

His gaze shifted toward the door.

For a moment… nothing.

Then suddenly—

The door burst open.

"Raj!"

His mother rushed in, her voice breaking as she reached his side.

Her hands trembled as she touched his shoulder, afraid of hurting him.

"Are you okay? Can you hear me?"

Behind her, his younger sister stood frozen at the entrance.

Her eyes were red, her lips trembling before she ran forward.

"Bhai…" she whispered. "You scared us…"

Raj blinked.

Once.

Twice.

The panel was still there.

Right in front of him.

But they didn't see it.

Didn't react.

Nothing.

"I'm… fine," he said slowly, his voice dry.

His mother shook her head immediately.

"Don't move too much… your hands are fractured. Doctor said you're lucky…"

Lucky.

The word felt strange.

Almost ironic.

Raj glanced at his bandaged arms.

Then back at the panel.

Still there.

Still silent.

"…Yeah," he muttered. "Lucky…"

His sister wiped her eyes quickly, trying to act normal.

"You idiot… why would you do that?" she said, her voice shaking.

"What if something happened to you?"

Raj looked at her for a moment.

The noise in his head quieted slightly.

"I didn't think," he replied.

And that was the truth.

The room settled into a fragile calm.

Machines beeped softly.

His mother sat beside him, holding his shoulder.

Normal.

Everything felt normal again.

Except—

[Constellation 'Silent Judge of Ruin' is observing your attachments]

Raj's expression stiffened.

He looked at them.

Then at the panel.

Something about it…

Didn't feel harmless.

A two days later, he was discharged.

The ride home felt longer than usual.

The streets looked the same, people moving like nothing had changed.

But Raj knew something had.

Something he couldn't undo.

Back in his room, he sat on the edge of his bed.

Silence filled the space.

Then—

The panel appeared again.

[Divine Broadcast is active]

Raj didn't react immediately this time.

He just stared at it.

Long.

Quiet.

"…So you're not going anywhere," he murmured.

No answer.

He leaned back against the wall, exhaling slowly.

His head felt heavy—not from the injury, but from everything else.

"A system… watchers… missions…"

He let out a weak laugh.

"This sounds like some cheap anime plot…"

His gaze drifted toward his desk.

Sketches.

Rough drawings.

Half-finished characters.

His dream.

"…I just wanted to make something," he said quietly.

"Not… whatever this is."

The panel flickered again.

[Constellation 'Watcher of Silent Skies' is curious about your desire]

Raj's jaw tightened.

His fingers curled slightly.

"You're watching me, right?" he said.

"Then at least explain something."

Silence.

Again.

No answers.

Only presence.

Raj closed his eyes for a moment.

Then opened them again.

Still there.

A slow breath left his lips.

"…Fine," he muttered quietly.

"Watch all you want."

But deep inside—

Something felt wrong.

This wasn't luck.

This wasn't random.

And whatever had just begun…

Wasn't going to end easily.

Raj's eyes stayed fixed on the panel.

His breathing had slowed a little, but his thoughts hadn't. They kept clashing, rejecting, trying to find something normal in all of this.

But there was nothing normal here.

"…Alright," he muttered quietly.

His voice wasn't as shaky now, but the confusion was still there, sitting heavy in his chest.

"What are you?"

Silence.

For a moment, the panel didn't react at all. Just like before.

Then—

[System Query Detected]

Raj's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…So you can respond."

[Basic Guidance Available]

His jaw tightened.

"Then start explaining," he said, more firmly this time. "What is this 'Divine Broadcast'? And who the hell are those constellations?"

A brief pause followed.

As if something was deciding how much he was allowed to know.

[Divine Broadcast: A higher-dimensional observation system]

[Constellations: Entities beyond your world]

[Purpose: Entertainment, evaluation, influence]

Raj stared at the words, reading them twice… then a third time.

"…Entertainment?" he repeated slowly.

A hollow laugh left his lips.

"You're telling me… my life is a show?"

[Confirmed]

That single word sat heavier than anything else.

Raj leaned back slightly, running a hand through his hair, his thoughts starting to settle—but not in a good way.

"Of course it is…" he muttered.

For a few seconds, he said nothing. Just stared at the panel like it might suddenly disappear.

It didn't.

"…And this 'mission'?" he asked again. "Survive what, exactly?"

[Information Restricted]

Raj let out a short breath.

"Convenient."

He shifted slightly, ignoring the dull pain in his arms.

"And this system… self-evolution. What does that even mean?"

The panel flickered once.

[Self-Evolution System: Assists host in achieving declared desire]

[Method: Tasks, rewards, observation-based growth]

His gaze drifted unconsciously toward his desk.

Sketches.

Rough ideas.

Unfinished characters.

"…So if I follow this," he said slowly, "I get stronger?"

[Confirmed]

"And the constellations?"

A pause.

Short.

"They just watch?"

[They may support, interfere, or ignore]

Raj exhaled slowly, his head falling back against the wall.

"So I've got invisible gods watching me like some reality show…"

No answer came.

"…And if I don't play along?"

This time, the pause was longer.

[Penalty: Unknown]

That word made his chest tighten.

Unknown.

"…Yeah, that's not worrying at all," he muttered.

Silence returned again.

Heavy.

Uncomfortable.

Raj stared at the ceiling for a few seconds, his thoughts finally slowing down enough to form something clear.

Not understanding.

But acceptance of one thing.

This wasn't going away.

His gaze lowered back to the panel.

"…Fine," he said quietly.

"Then I'll figure it out myself."

[Constellation 'Silent Judge of Ruin' is observing your resolve]

A slow breath left his lips.

The panic was still there.

Just buried under something else now.

Uncertainty.

…Why him?

....

The cold breeze brushed against his face again.

The distant sound of traffic returned.

The rooftop.

Present.

Raj blinked once, his focus snapping back.

The phone was still recording.

The red light still blinking.

The panel hovered in front of him.

Unchanged.

[Divine Broadcast is LIVE]

[Viewers are increasing…]

A new message appeared.

[Constellation 'Laughing Abyss' is excited for your next move]

Raj stared at it.

Then at the camera.

For a moment, he said nothing.

Then he let out a slow breath.

"…Right."

His posture straightened slightly.

Not confident.

Not fearless.

But no longer completely lost.

"Hello guys," he said again, his voice more controlled this time.

"My name is Raj Singh…"

His eyes flickered briefly toward the panel.

"…and I think," he added slowly,

"…this is going to be one hell of a story."

[Constellation 'Watcher of Silent Skies' is interested]

[+10 Karma]

The broadcast continued.

And somewhere beyond his world—

They were watching.
