Chapter 20 - An ominous sign

When I woke up, I was in my own room.

It looks like it was carried into my room and placed on my bed.

Was it Nakagawa who carried it? Or was it my mother? It could have been both.

I looked around, but there was no one there.

If I just wait, will someone come, or should I make a move myself...?

Okay, fine. Let me organize my thoughts for a bit.

I didn't intentionally cause a lucky perverted situation because I wanted to see Nakagawa naked or anything like that.

Making a strong impression on the opponent at a major event is one of the objectives, but it's not the main objective.

In these kinds of events, it's possible to estimate the level of favorability based on the other person's reaction.

This time I was knocked unconscious with a stun gun, so I couldn't really see the reaction immediately after the event... but oh well, can't be helped.

We must keep a close eye on Nakagawa's every move and reaction from now on.

That's why it would be convenient if we could talk alone... but I guess that's not possible right away?

...While I was thinking about such things, the door suddenly opened.

 The person there was Nakagawa.

"Oh, you're awake."

"Ah, ah"

I never imagined that such a perfect opportunity would suddenly present itself.

I'll wait and see, and if they remain silent, I'll start by apologizing.

I thought that would be the case, but it was Nakagawa who spoke first.

"Um, Keima-kun, I'm sorry. Are you hurt?"

Hmm, so you're starting with an apology.

That's true, otherwise they wouldn't have bothered coming all the way to my room.

I'll just give a vague answer for now.

"Oh, it's alright. I'm the one who should apologize."

"No, it's okay."

"It was also my fault for not checking properly."

 ...Oh?

I can barely sense the anger I was expecting.

I have a bad feeling about this...

"No, it's my fault."

I knew Nakagawa was taking a bath, and I was the one who got engrossed in PFP while trying to brush my teeth."

"That's not true. Keima, you don't have to apologize!"

 ......

I see, so that's how it is.

This is a bit, no, quite troublesome.

"Okay, I understand. For now, let's just let this matter go."

Starting tomorrow, things will be back to normal. Is that alright with you?"

"Y-yes! I understand."

"Well then...oh, look at the time. You should go to bed soon."

"Okay. See you tomorrow then."

Nakagawa left the room and closed the door with a look of reluctance.

 ...Now, let's organize the information.

Depending on how you define "romance," the conclusion is that Kanon Nakagawa has already fallen in love.

However, I don't think that continuing the game normally will fill the void in her heart. Even if I kissed her at this point, the runaway soul definitely wouldn't appear. I'd bet 10 limited editions of the latest game on it.

What caused things to turn out this way in the first place?

Is it because that idiot Elsie instilled fear? Is that really enough?

No, that can't be right. There must have been a void in Nakagawa's heart even before that scene. Otherwise, the runaway spirit wouldn't have been able to enter.

...There aren't enough clues. But even if we try to get Nakagawa to reveal something useful now, it will be quite difficult.

I think I made a slight mistake in the procedure...

It's a hassle, but... I guess I'll review the backlog.

Seriously, in a game you could just do it with a menu or by pressing some random button, but in reality, you have to go through the trouble of retrieving it from memory.

I've made a slight educated guess, so I hope I can get some useful information...

 --An encounter on the rooftop--

 --Elsie's intrusion--

 --How to conquer Ayumi--

--Elsie's transfer to another school and Nakagawa's cohabitation--

 --Discovery of runaway soul possession--

Is this roughly how it can be divided?

No, not yet. We can still narrow it down.

The key points seem to be... the "living together" aspect and the "meeting" aspect, perhaps?

"Keima-kun, there's actually something I'd like to ask you..."

"Actually, I was hoping you could let me stay at your place for just one night..."

"Why don't you know?! I'm an idol, I'm an idol!!"

"Don't make me anxious, don't make me a fan..."

It was something like this, I think.

So that means... that's probably what it is.

Maybe I'll ask them the next day when I go to or leave school.

And if that's the answer I predicted...

"...I can see the ending."
