Chapter 50: Daito vs. Shinsei (Part 1)
The training chamber fell into a suffocating silence.
Dust lingered in the air like a thin veil, illuminated by the cold white lights embedded high above the steel walls. The room had already witnessed countless exchanges, but now even the atmosphere seemed to understand that what was about to unfold would be unlike anything before it.
Daito Greyhell stood motionless.
His breathing was slow.
Measured.
His eyes never left Shinsei.
Without saying another word, he lowered his gaze for only a fraction of a second before his hand drifted toward the hilt of his standard sword.
SHING!
The blade slid free from its sheath with a clean metallic whisper, its polished edge catching the light as though awakening from a deep slumber.
The instant the sword was drawn, something changed.
Not the room nor the air.
The people.
Everyone present felt it.
An invisible pressure swept through the chamber, subtle yet undeniable. It wasn't bloodlust, nor was it overwhelming killing intent. It was something far more unsettling—a quiet certainty that the man standing before them had finally become serious.
Even Shinsei noticed.
Her expression softened ever so slightly as the corners of her lips curled upward.
"...Ah," she murmured, almost to herself.
"There you are."
For the first time since the battle had begun, she felt as though she was facing the real Daito Greyhell.
No hesitation, nor uncertainty.
Only a swordsman.
Daito moved.
SWOOOSH!
There was no explosive burst of speed.
No unnecessary flourish.
No dramatic leap.
Only a single, perfectly timed step.
His body glided forward as though carried by the wind itself, and in the same motion, his sword flashed toward Shinsei's centerline.
It was frighteningly efficient.
Every muscle, breath, and inch of movement had purpose.
Shinsei reacted instantly.
CLANG!
Steel met her defense with a deafening ring that echoed throughout the chamber.
But something unexpected happened.
Her arm shifted.
Not because Daito overpowered her.
Not because she had misread his attack.
He had simply forced her structure to move.
For the first time since the fight began, Shinsei's footing slid backward by half an inch.
Half an inch.
It was almost imperceptible.
Yet everyone saw it.
"...He broke her structure," Zachia whispered in disbelief.
Shinsei remained calm, but the surprise hidden within her eyes lasted just long enough for Daito to notice.
He didn't chase her.
He didn't greedily attempt another strike.
Instead, he calmly withdrew his blade and returned to his stance, as though confirming something inside his own mind.
"Now," he said quietly.
The single word was all the invitation they needed.
* * *
The chamber erupted into motion.
FWOOSH!
DASH!
BOOM!
Monday was the first to launch himself forward, arcs of blue lightning exploding around his body once again as electricity roared across the floor beneath his feet.
Aerin disappeared into the shifting shadows, her presence fading until only faint traces of movement remained.
Brandon ignored the pain screaming through his battered body and charged ahead with overwhelming force.
Champagne regained his footing and accelerated beside him, his movements sharp and disciplined.
Wei-Wan adjusted his stance with practiced precision while Fah-jin repositioned himself, his eyes rapidly calculating every possible angle.
Avenor flickered in and out of sight like a mirage.
And standing at the very center of it all—
Was Daito.
He didn't lead them by shouting commands.
He led simply by moving.
Shinsei's eyes sharpened.
Her body flowed effortlessly between styles.
Western.
Southern.
Western.
Southern.
The transitions became even faster than before.
Sharper.
Cleaner.
Deadlier.
Yet something had changed.
For the first time...
She was reacting.
SLASH!
Daito's blade cut through the rhythm she had been building.
Not to injure her or to overpower her, but to interrupt.
Every time Shinsei attempted to establish her flowing momentum—
CLING!
Daito forced another clash.
Steel collided against defense before her techniques could fully mature.
Whenever she attempted to chain one movement into the next—
SHWOO!
His blade arrived first, changing the angle, altering the distance, denying her the opportunity to dictate the exchange.
It was subtle.
Almost invisible.
Yet it completely transformed the battlefield.
The others noticed immediately.
Monday synchronized every lightning burst with the exact instant Daito created an opening.
Aerin struck only during Shinsei's transitions between styles.
Brandon crashed forward whenever she lost stable footing, forcing her to deal with raw physical pressure.
Champagne exploited every hesitation with frightening precision.
Even Wei-Wan and Fah-jin found themselves adapting naturally to Daito's tempo instead of fighting independently.
CLANG!
BAM!
POW!
The chamber became a symphony of steel, fists, and thunder.
The rhythm no longer belonged solely to Shinsei.
It belonged to everyone.
Every strike was contested.
Every movement challenged.
Every exchange became increasingly dangerous.
For the first time...Shinsei was forced onto the defensive.
She slid backward across the steel floor.
SKRRREEETCH!
Her boots carved thin lines into the metal as she finally halted several meters away.
A faint bruise had begun forming along one of her forearms where Daito's repeated clashes had subtly disrupted her structure.
She looked down at it for only a moment.
Then she smiled.
"...Good."
The single word echoed quietly through the chamber.
Then she stepped forward.
Only once.
The difference was immediate.
SHOOOOOM!
She vanished.
Not because she had become invisible.
She had simply accelerated beyond what everyone had witnessed until now.
Monday's eyes widened.
"...She's faster."
Much faster.
This wasn't merely an increase in speed.
Everything had evolved.
Her strikes carried greater weight.
Her footwork became impossibly refined.
Even her breathing had changed.
The distinction between Western and Southern Martial Arts disappeared entirely.
She no longer switched between them.
She had fused them.
Raw Western power merged seamlessly with the fluid adaptability of Southern techniques until they were no longer separate disciplines.
They had become one complete system.
One perfect weapon.
The battlefield shifted instantly.
The momentum the team had painstakingly built shattered before their eyes.
One exchange.
Then another.
Suddenly, everyone found themselves retreating.
Even Daito narrowed his eyes.
"...So this..."
He slowly raised his sword.
"...is your real form."
Shinsei smiled.
There was no arrogance in her expression.
Only satisfaction.
"You've earned the right to see it."
The next instant—
SHOOOOOSH!
She disappeared straight toward him.
The team instinctively prepared to intervene...
But something about the way the two warriors stared at each other made them hesitate.
The battle had changed.
No longer was it Shinsei versus everyone. No longer was it a coordinated assault. It had become something far simpler... And infinitely more dangerous.
A duel between two masters. One sought absolute precision. The other sought complete dismantling.
The true battle...Had finally begun.
to be continued.....
