Chapter 1 - About life

The sky was covered with clouds.

They moved slowly, as if they had nowhere to go… just like people.

Life.

What does it really mean?

People often say that everyone is born with a purpose. That there is always a reason behind someone's existence. But the truth is… no one chooses that purpose themselves.

Some believe that life is already written — that everything which is going to happen has already been decided.

But I don't believe that.

To me, life is nothing more than an opportunity.

It might sound cold… but that doesn't change how people see you.

If I'm being honest, people don't see you as a person. They see you as your value.

The rich dominate the poor.

But why?

Those who already have everything… why do they still want to suppress others? Why don't they challenge people of their own level?

These questions never really end.

Life is tough. That's a fact, not an excuse.

Rich people try to look good, not be good.

And this applies to everyone… even the poor. Some people live fake lives just to show others something that doesn't even exist.

But honestly…

I don't care about any of that.

I'm just an ordinary student.

My name is James Evans.

🏫 School Scene

Today is my first day at a new school. I transferred here recently.

I don't know how my life is going to be here…

but one thing is certain — I won't interact with people more than necessary.

…Wait.

Why is that girl walking towards me?

"Hello… my name is Ruhi. Can I talk to you?"

What am I supposed to say?

Footsteps…

The classroom door suddenly opened.

"Everyone, take your seats."

Good. The teacher came just in time… that was close.

"Good morning, students," said the teacher.

"Good morning, ma'am," the class replied in unison.

"Today, we have a new student. Please introduce yourself."

Me? Seriously…

What kind of situation is this…

Fine.

I stood up.

"Hello everyone. My name is James Evans. I'm from Assam. I don't have many hobbies… and I don't really like doing much. But I'll try to adjust with all of you. Thank you."

…Why is everyone looking surprised?

Did I say too much?

Well… at least they're clapping.

Class ended, and soon a lot of students came up to me, trying to be friends.

I talked to them normally. I mean… I can't just ignore everyone. I might need them later.

"Hello James, I'm Ruhi. Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too, Ruhi."

"From today, we're friends!"

She's probably the most beautiful girl in the class… and yet she's talking to me so casually.

I just hope my ordinary school life goes smoothly.

I don't want unnecessary events or interactions.

…Wait.

Who is that guy?

Why is he beating someone?

"Who is he?" I asked.

Ruhi replied, "He's the class bully. He always does this. His name is Riyan. And the one getting beaten… his name is Alex."

"I haven't seen him in class."

"He came late because he was scared of getting bullied. He's not even in our section."

"Wow… a new student, huh?"

Riyan walked towards me.

What should I do…? I don't want attention.

He came closer.

"What's your name?"

…I should just ignore him.

"I asked you something."

"Oh… my name is James."

Riyan grabbed my collar.

"Listen carefully. In this class — no, in this entire school — only I decide what happens."

Why is he holding my collar?

Ruhi stepped in.

"You can't bully a new student like this!"

Riyan smirked.

"If I didn't like you… I would've killed you by now. So stay out of this."

Tring… Tring…

The bell rang.

Lunch break.

"Lucky you," Riyan said, letting go. "I'll deal with you later."

He walked away.

That was close.

"Thanks, Ruhi."

"It's okay."

Violence really is the strongest language in this place.

But it doesn't matter to me.

I just want this day to end.
