When Kynatech was developing The Decagon, they mostly kept things to themselves. They did not reveal too much as they promoted the game; however, the promotion and gameplay were all set up so that everything they showed off was the truth and not a single bit of it was misleading about what it was. The fact that people would assume things about what The Decagon was is on them, as they plainly state what the game is and its purpose to them clearly. However, what people assume on their own would not be the fault of Kynatech, though.
However, to manage this in the most proper fashion that they could, they went to a family that specialized in toxicology. That was not just the physical but also the figurative type as well. This would not be considered lying in the fact that they are not telling them anything that is not true. All the gameplay, trailers, and story that they reveal would be genuine and the truth one hundred percent. However, why would they reveal the biggest things about The Decagon before they allow the players they accept to actually play it?
Thus, the way they were getting the family that was well known for toxicology on board. It was not like this was something new to them either, as this was something within their wheelhouse after all. Telling the truth in such a manner could be considered toxic from how it was done, but at the end of the day, it's still the truth. There would be no lies told on Kynatech's end in regard to The Decagon or the Demonlight engine that it runs on.
Of course, only certain members of the toxicology family that were being hired for this task would be aware of the full scope and the full truth of the project. After that, why they were being let on board to handle the issue. However, there would be other members that are merely tasked with another purpose, as they would be amongst the players that would be monitoring them from the inside on numerous factors. There is some data that one can only get from someone who has a hands on experience after all. Given the true scope of what The Decagon is to be, there can not be anyone doing anything but make sure the game and the engine itself stay running within the safety parameters. However, it was designed not to require outside maintenance. Outside upkeep was still something that would be required, as Kynatech had to ensure that things like power outages, as well as unexpected scenarios, events, or situations, were addressed and accounted for. They could not have them getting in the way, as just because they planned for everything to run perfectly internally does not mean everything will run perfectly externally. As much as they are trying to keep this project contained within a vacuum, that is not possible; thus, they have to plan for those things in advance. The only thing they had to autonomously manage was the creation of things like items, currency, quests, etc. Everything was to be made by the players after all; thus, the system they used to create them had to be running like a well oiled machine. The balancing of and monitoring of everything was going to be up to the players, as they were free to do whatever they wanted. Even attempts at eventually hacking were addressed. Hacking was not always about being harmful or destructive, as there were types that stayed confined to within the rules themselves. However, because of this, they could become an even greater danger or threat than someone who maliciously and destructively hacks. As they are not doing anything that is not allowed within the system itself; thus, they are not breaking anything, just using everything at their disposal.
It was for things like this that the toxicology, the family that was highly and widely known for, not only covered all forms of being toxic, but both sides of it as well. There was a light side and dark side to being toxic after all. There is nothing that is purely one thing or the other, as everything has toxic and non toxic aspect to it. After all, just like anything can become lethal with the correct dosage, thus by that logic anything can also become toxic in the same manner. The toxicology family that focused on both was exactly the people Kynatech wanted on their side when creating both The Decagon and the demonlight engine.
Getting them on board was not even that hard, as they already had them working within the company on other projects, as well as within the VR sector in the first place. No company that was as successful as them did not have at least a few members of this family within their organization to begin with, after all. They were vital to properly handling the two sides of being toxic after all.
Though the monitoring of the mental state of beta testers was something that was not going to be ignored, as they planned to state that their life would be fully monitored and maintained. That wording was on purpose, as they merely mentioned and repeated that life would be; however, things like well being were not stated. As Kynatech was known for doing exactly what they say, as if they say their product does something, then that is what it would do without question. However, this strategy that they were employing was what allowed them to get away with things they were not doing. Before, they were always doing what was normally considered for the good of everyone, including the consumer.
Thus, the monitoring of the mental state of beta testers was being considered as something they would do. However, that is where they would be wrong, as they were not doing that, as the monitoring of someone's state of life does not include their mental state. One's mental state can be utterly horrible, but they are still alive; thus, their state of life is just fine, though the quality of it is horrible. However, they are not monitoring the quality of life, but merely life itself.
