Skylar's face turned red after hearing his grandmother's words. Before looking at her, however, he cast a cold glance at Jessica, his small face unusually serious.
"Granny, I don't want another mommy," he said in a polite but firm voice. "I only want Mommy Sienna. She's my only mom."
His simple words seemed to freeze everyone around them.
Sienna stood there in stunned silence. She had been hurt by everything that had happened since Jessica and the older woman entered the shop, but hearing Skylar defend her without hesitation warmed her heart. He hadn't been confused or frightened into staying quiet. Instead, he had spoken up for her with complete sincerity.
A moment later, Skylar walked straight toward her.
Sienna immediately bent down and opened her arms. The little boy wrapped his arms around her without hesitation, and she held him tightly, gently rubbing his back as if reassuring both him and herself that everything would be alright.
