Shanghai was everything that London was not.
The air felt different. The streets were louder. Even the silence felt unfamiliar, cars moved fast. People spoke quickly. Everything felt like it was happening too much, too fast.
Rose stood by the window of her new apartment, staring at the skyline.
"It's beautiful", her mother said while gently tapping her shoulder.
"It's loud," Rose replied softly.
"Rose" called her father from the living room.
She replied "coming....dad" as she reached the living room her father handed her new books and school uniform.
" Tomorrow is your first day at your new school", her father said smiling.
She nodded and said " good night mom, good night dad"
That night, she lay in her new room, staring at the ceiling. The thought of going to a new school at a new place already made her feel like she doesn't belong here....
