Chapter 2 - The woman who never breaks

The rain fell quietly.

Not heavy. Not loud.

Just enough to blur the city lights and soften the noise of the world.

Jung Young stood under it.

Still.

Unmoving.

As if she didn't feel the cold drops soaking into her clothes… as if she didn't notice the way people rushed past her, seeking shelter, seeking warmth—seeking anything but this.

Her phone buzzed in her hand.

Once.

Twice.

She didn't pick up.

Didn't even look at the screen.

Her gaze remained fixed ahead—on nothing in particular, yet somehow… on everything at once.

Calm.

Too calm.

"Excuse me, miss!"

A voice broke through the quiet.

She turned slightly.

A middle-aged woman ran toward her, holding out an umbrella with concern written all over her face. "You'll catch a cold standing like this. Take this—"

"I'm fine."

Her voice was soft.

Polite.

But final.

The woman hesitated, confused by the lack of reaction. "At least move under the shade—"

"I said I'm fine."

This time, Jung Young's eyes met hers.

And something in them—

Something steady. Something distant—

Made the woman stop.

"Oh… okay."

She left.

And just like that, the world moved on again.

But Jung Young didn't.

She simply stood there a moment longer…

Then finally looked down at her phone.

The screen lit up.

[Unknown Number – 12 Missed Calls]

A pause.

Then she unlocked it.

A message blinked onto the screen.

"If you don't come now, don't bother coming back at all."

Her expression didn't change.

Not even a flicker.

Not anger.

Not sadness.

Not fear.

Nothing.

She stared at the message for a few seconds…

Then calmly turned off her phone.

🖤 Scene Shift

The house was quiet.

Too quiet.

The kind of quiet that pressed against your chest and made breathing feel heavier than it should.

Jung Young stepped inside, closing the door behind her with a soft click.

She didn't rush.

Didn't call out.

Didn't react.

As if she already knew what was waiting.

"You finally decided to show up."

The voice came from the living room.

Sharp.

Cold.

Jung Young walked in slowly.

A man sat there, his presence heavy with irritation. His eyes immediately locked onto her, filled with something far from warmth.

"You think you can ignore me now?" he snapped.

Silence.

She stood in front of him, her posture straight, her expression calm.

Unbothered.

That alone seemed to anger him more.

"I've been calling you for hours!"

"I saw."

Her voice was even.

Simple.

That was all.

Something in him snapped.

"You saw?" He stood abruptly, his chair scraping loudly against the floor. "And you thought it was okay to ignore me?"

Jung Young didn't move.

Didn't step back.

Didn't lower her gaze.

"No," she said quietly. "I just didn't think it was important."

The words landed like a slap.

For a second—

Silence.

Then—

"Unbelievable."

He let out a harsh laugh, running a hand through his hair in frustration. "You've really changed, haven't you?"

"No."

Her answer came immediately.

"I haven't."

And somehow—

That made it worse.

Because she was right.

She hadn't changed.

She had always been like this.

Calm in the face of anger.

Unmoved in the face of pressure.

Untouchable in a way that made people feel powerless.

And people hated that.

He stepped closer to her, his voice lowering dangerously. "You think you can keep acting like this and get away with it?"

Jung Young finally looked at him properly.

Not with fear.

Not with defiance.

But with something far more unsettling—

Indifference.

"I'm not trying to get away with anything," she said softly.

"I just don't care."

That was the moment everything shifted.

Because anger feeds on reaction.

And Jung Young… gave none.

🖤 Final Scene

Later that night, she sat alone in her room.

The house had gone quiet again.

But this time—

It felt different.

Her phone buzzed once more.

She picked it up.

Another unknown number.

For a second, she stared at it…

Then answered.

"Yes?"

A voice spoke from the other end.

Calm. Professional.

"Miss Jung Young, I'm calling on behalf of the Lee family."

A pause.

"We would like to discuss a marriage proposal."

Silence.

No shock.

No confusion.

Just that same quiet stillness.

"…I see," she said.

And then—

"Okay."
