One day, Emperor Akbar and his minister Birbal were taking a walk in the palace gardens. The Emperor was in a thoughtful mood and decided to test Birbal's wit.
He looked at the many crows flying around and asked, "Birbal, can you tell me exactly how many crows there are in this city?"
Birbal smiled and immediately replied, "Yes, Your Majesty. There are ninety-five thousand, four hundred and sixty-three crows."
Akbar was surprised by the quick and precise answer. He asked, "What if there are more crows than that?"
Birbal calmly answered, "Then some crows from neighboring kingdoms must be visiting their relatives here."
"And what if there are fewer crows?" Akbar challenged.
Birbal grinned and said, "In that case, some of our crows must have gone to visit their relatives outside the city."
The Emperor laughed, impressed by Birbal's cleverness and his ability to find a logical out for any situation.
