Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

In this arrest operation, although the military police had thrown the group here without any follow-up measures, it did not mean that they had completely given up. In fact, there had always been surveillance cameras in the cabin to monitor everyone's vital signs. It was only when they discovered that Li Xuecheng was in a state of shock that they took emergency measures.

The armed mechanical soldiers were completely cold and ruthless. They did not care about cause and effect or right and wrong. They strictly followed fixed procedures and opened fire with anti-riot guns.

The high-voltage pulse covered the entire detention room. Everyone who was standing became a target of the attack. Even Lian Yu and the other girls were not spared.

The electric current penetrated their bodies. The currents formed a closed circuit with the human nervous system, stimulating the muscles and instantly putting them into a state of rigidity.

Everyone was completely defenseless and fell to the ground.

The chaotic situation was immediately swept away…

No—there was one more.

Luo Nan was forcefully restrained by the group of rich kids. Some grabbed his waist, others clung to his legs. Perhaps because he had a few extra layers of "meat shields," he didn't collapse immediately.

He staggered a few steps and finally managed to maintain his balance. His body was half-bent, his hands resting on his knees. His calves trembled and swayed, as if he could fall at any moment.

But even so, Luo Nan still stood there.

He raised his face slightly, and the blood-red color on it faded a little. His eyes stared fixedly past the bars of the detention room, locking onto the muzzles of the armed mechanical soldiers.

The soldiers also coldly locked onto their only target. Just as they were about to attack again, soldiers in combat uniforms rushed in through the door. The person in the lead was a captain.

"Retreat!"

The voice command was issued, and the mechanical soldiers' electronic eyes immediately turned black.

The captain's gaze swept across the room as he said sternly, "Everyone, get on the floor and put your hands behind your head!"

He didn't explain the consequences of disobedience, but no one wanted to test the law. Even though the numbness hadn't fully subsided, the group hurried to comply, each one more obedient than a lamb.

Lian Yu sneakily raised her head and glanced at Luo Nan. Many people shared the same thought—surely this sinister, ruthless pervert would stubbornly resist to the end.

But reality left them stunned.

Luo Nan crawled down slowly and with difficulty, yet he was completely obedient. His hands crossed behind his head.

Because he had moved earlier, he was now closer to Lian Yu. From her angle, she could clearly see his face.

Hmm… he seems to be trembling… Could it be he only understands fear now?

Before she could finish the thought, she heard a faint buzzing sound—like a bee flapping its wings, carrying a subtle rhythm.

The source was Luo Nan.

Only then did Lian Yu notice that although he lay on the ground, his posture was slightly different. His chin rested against the floor, his gaze fixed forward. His lips moved faintly, producing that strange sound.

He looked like a wasp with a broken wing, struggling on the ground.

Could it be… this guy has gone mad?

Lian Yu shuddered and clenched her teeth, silently cursing someone hundreds of kilometers away.

Xie Junping, you bastard—just what kind of people do you know?

Xie Junping, of course, couldn't reply. But the military quickly made their judgment.

From Lian Yu and the others' perspective, the appearance of armed mechanical soldiers and military personnel meant things had spiraled out of control. They had no idea how they would be dealt with.

But reality proved otherwise. In the military's eyes, a small conflict between a group of temporarily detained youths was nothing more than a trivial matter. In the end, they were only assisting the police—there was no need to waste energy here.

The final handling was simple: Li Xuecheng, who had fallen unconscious, was carried out for treatment. Luo Nan, who clearly didn't fit in with the others… was taken away for solitary confinement.

No one objected. Even if they did, it wouldn't matter.

As Luo Nan was being led out, he spoke in a low voice:

"There's still my notebook."

It's coming! It's coming!

Lian Yu and the others widened their eyes, expecting this deeply hidden pervert to finally reveal his vicious nature.

But once again, reality made fools of them.

The captain didn't get angry. Instead, he signaled a subordinate to retrieve the notebook. He flipped through a couple of pages, noticed the cracked flexible screen, and gave it a few extra glances before handing it back.

Luo Nan said nothing more. He quietly followed the escorting soldier, calm and restrained—exactly as he had appeared from the beginning.

As Lian Yu and the others looked at each other in confusion, Luo Nan was taken to a solitary confinement room not far from the previous cabin.

The space was narrow, as expected. A single metal chair was fixed to the ground, nearly filling the room when turned.

This was the kind of place that terrified claustrophobic people.

But Luo Nan didn't care.

He sat down, placing the notebook on his knees. First, he wiped away the dirt and footprints from the cover, then carefully opened it.

The metal ring binding had been deformed by Li Xuecheng's trampling. The opening mechanism wasn't as smooth anymore. But this damage was minor compared to the flexible e-ink screen.

It was unclear how Li Xuecheng had exerted such force, but the screen—normally tough and flexible—now had more than a dozen fine cracks. Some stretched across the entire display. It looked as though it might fall apart with just a bit more pressure.

Even so, it still worked—for now.

With a light swipe, the screen lit up.

Luo Nan felt a small sense of relief. Without hesitation, he opened his most-used drawing software. The familiar loading icon appeared, and soon the interface loaded. The draft of the burning wraith sat at the top layer.

Everything looked normal…

Luo Nan let out a long breath. He pressed down, preparing to enter the next layer.

But before his breath could even settle, the screen suddenly went dark.

It shut down completely, without a trace of light—like a black tablet smeared in ink.

Luo Nan tried multiple times to restart it.

Nothing.

He stared blankly at the shattered, pitch-black screen.

In the corner, a miniature camera captured his stiff, stunned expression and transmitted it to another cabin on the warship.

There, the newly minted lawyer Zhang Yingying had just arrived, looking travel-worn. She was handing over legal documents to the officer in charge.

She had changed into an old-fashioned ash-black suit, her hair tied neatly into a bun. The only bright color on her was a sapphire-blue scarf around her neck… and her long, slender calves, left exposed. Her skin appeared flawless, almost glowing with a jade-like sheen beneath her black velvet high heels.

The officer receiving her was the transport ship's logistics deputy supervisor, a somewhat stout lieutenant colonel surnamed Lu. He had already been warned beforehand. Despite her youthful face, her mature attire made her seem suspicious.

He had no intention of digging deeper.

Of course… that might also have something to do with where his gaze kept drifting.
