Chapter 1 - Prologue

"Three shots."

"Is that so?"

"One to the head, one to the chest, and one to the leg."

Detective Ethan stands over the body of a woman lying on the floor, his expression almost carefree. Beside him, Officer Daniel watches, visibly tense.

Police sirens wail outside the grand mansion of the Roosevelt family.

Ethan tilts his head, studying the corpse.

"Killing the entire family of a businessman and philanthropist… wow. So, is she like… one of—"

"No. She's not," Daniel cuts in quickly, his voice hesitant. "She's a normal."

Detective Ethan removes his blue hat and smiles.

"This is the twentieth time this week."

Daniel frowns, clearly annoyed.

"It's only been like this since you arrived and blackmailed me into investigating these cases. We don't even touch cases like these unless the lieutenant orders it."

Ethan smiles—a smile that makes it all feel like a game to him.

"Well… you don't want your wife to find out you're having an affair, do you, Daniel?"

Daniel's expression hardens immediately. Ethan had been using that leverage for months—forcing him to investigate firearm-related crimes.

Ethan looks back at the body.

"Well… to be honest, her not being a breaker doesn't make much sense."

Daniel is taken aback. He knows she isn't a breaker—he's sure of it.

Ethan glances at his wrist. A watch-like device glows faint green.

"Then why is it… I still feel like there's one here?"

He leans closer to the body, his eyes sharpening as he activates his breaker ability.

"In death… she was worried about something…"

Daniel doesn't react much. Everyone looks worried in death.

Ethan continues, his voice sharpening.

"…about what? The firearm? The shock of dying? Or… she was looking at someone… YES. YES, SHE WAS!"

He suddenly points toward the upper floor.

"There! Wasn't there another body up there?"

Daniel, startled by the accuracy, replies,

"Yes… her husband, Mr. Roosevelt. But we're focusing on her first because she was shot multiple times. Roosevelt was shot only once—in the stomach."

Ethan winks.

"That's exactly the point, Daniel. You've gotten smarter since partnering with me."

Daniel clenches his jaw, irritated, wanting nothing more than to get out of this.

Ethan gestures around the scene as he continues.

"One shooter who was Inexperienced. He killed the bodyguards at the front… but when he entered, he didn't expect Mrs. Roosevelt to be there. He panicked—shot her once in the chest, then the leg… and when she was already down, he finished it with a shot to the head."

Daniel stares at him, stunned.

"You really do see everything, don't you?"

Ethan scoffs.

"Deducing a crime scene isn't a breaker ability. It's experience."

He continues, reconstructing the sequence.

"After that… the killer shot the maid on the stairs. She was holding a knife—but what was she defending? Herself? Mr. Roosevelt? We don't know. Then he went upstairs… and shot Mr. Roosevelt."

Daniel exhales slowly.

"I'm impressed, Detective Ethan."

Ethan smiles.

"Daniel… looks like everything I just said was correct."

Daniel suddenly grabs Ethan and pulls him outside.

Rain pours heavily.

Ethan's gaze shifts.

Two children—two brothers—stand near a police car, an officer holding an umbrella over them.

Daniel speaks quietly,

"Those kids… are orphans now, Ethan."

Ethan is shaken by the look on their faces. His ability to see everything is both a gift and a curse—he can sense happiness, joy, grief, malice, and sorrow in a person's heart in an instant.

He thinks to himself,

"So… that's why it was glowing, huh? Mr. Roosevelt was a breaker… but I won't tell Daniel."

Daniel speaks,

"We found them in Mr. Roosevelt's closet. And written in his blood were the words—'NO BREAKERS IN MY CITY.'"

Ethan's expression darkens.

"So the children saw their parents being killed… They must've been upstairs. The maid tried to hide them in their father's room to mislead the killer… and died protecting them."

Daniel nods.

"One of them… is a breaker as well."

Ethan is taken aback by that. Then, he taps Daniel's shoulder with a faint smile.

"Good luck protecting them. I think I'm close to ending this chaos once and for all… like a true superhero and a detective."

He falls silent and begins walking away.

Daniel tries to stop him.

Ethan speaks without turning back,

"Firearms aren't allowed in this city ,yet one was used against someone as prominent as the Roosevelts. That gives me a clear path to finally take action and gather evidence against whoever's behind all this."

Daniel nods.

"Good luck, Ethan."

Ethan smiles and walks off into the heavy rain—soon disappearing from sight.

"Compared to the other four cities, this one has always been the most chaotic. Drugs, gang wars, corruption… it has consumed the city entirely and stripped power away from its people long ago. I arrived here only two months ago—as a hero from the EPS. Being both a detective and a hero isn't easy. I have to choose my allies and enemies carefully, every time. I suppose Mr. Roosevelt was killed because he made the wrong enemy as well. This city has twenty towns—three of them the most populated: Night Light, Dragon's Bane, and the middle of this city…Sigurd."

Detective Ethan arrives at the Night Light police station, drenched from the rain.

He heads straight to the records room.

Pulling out files, he begins searching.

"I'm in Night Light—one of those major areas. This is the twentieth murder this week. But what makes this case different is who the victim was. A government affiliate… involved in projects like the NGO 'Beta Funds' for the poor and disabled. One of the biggest philanthropists and businessmen… Who would dare kill someone like that and get away with it? And more importantly… firearms are strictly prohibited in Beta City—to reduce casualties from gang wars and everything else that plagues this place."

He flips through Record File No. 105.

"Wait… Connor Murphy… involved with a gang called 'The Marauders' in the past…"

Ethan pauses.

"Connor Murphy… hmm. I know that name… yeah, I've met him before."

A faint smile forms on his face.

He closes the file, places it back, and walks out of the station.

Standing outside, he lights a cigarette.

"I've gotta roll the dice on a hunch…"

If he finds Connor Murphy, he might finally uncover the truth behind the perpetrators—and put an end to this chaos once and for all.
