Chapter 667: The Innocent Girl, Amano Hina's Initial Fall!
"This is your home, right?"
"!!!"
Facing Ren's question, Amano Hina stared blankly, not answering. Her mind was a whirlwind of confusion and disbelief.
It wasn't due to fear, but shock. The transition had been instantaneous, a blink of an eye that erased distance and logic.
One second she was on the rooftop of the abandoned high-rise, the wind whipping her hair and the city sprawling below like a labyrinth of despair. But in the next blink, she was back in her cramped rental room.
The familiar smell of stale air and cheap wood greeted her.
She rubbed her eyes and checked again... she was still in the room! The peeling wallpaper, the small kitchenette, the futon she hadn't folded—it was all there.
She pinched her arm.
"Hiss!"
The pain confirmed that Amano Hina wasn't dreaming. This was real, undeniably so.
"Th-th-this..."
Amano Hina, wide-eyed and stammering, didn't know how to ask questions for a moment. Her voice caught in her throat.
"Is there a need to be so surprised? You yourself possess the supernatural ability to clear up the weather," Ren shook his head and chuckled, his tone light and teasing.
"Ren-kun, didn't you say you were going on a date with me and Icarus, the two winners? Did you end up dating at another girl's house?"
Tohka, holding Ren's arm, glared at him with wide eyes. Her possessiveness flared, a cute pout forming on her lips.
"Ugh!"
Ren's response to her question was to kiss her. He leaned in swiftly, capturing her lips before she could protest further.
Caught off guard by the kiss, Tohka froze.
At first, she struggled, pushing lightly against his chest, but soon Tohka was deeply immersed. Her resistance melted away, replaced by a soft sigh as she leaned into him.
"???"
Amano Hina, having come to her senses, looked at this scene in a daze and confusion.
Why did standing here make her feel full? It was like watching a romantic drama play out in her own living room.
And why did they specifically come to her home to show affection? Was this some kind of strange ritual?
Even stranger was the next scene.
Ren didn't show favoritism; after finishing with Tohka, he turned to Icarus and did it again.
"!!!"
Amano Hina felt countless thoughts flash through her mind.
Were they in a love triangle? Or was it something more... complex?
What kind of relationship was this? It defied her understanding of romance.
Is this what adults are like? Are they always this chaotic and passionate?
...
"We'll talk about the date later; the main goal of coming out this time is her."
After forcefully comforting the two flushed girls, Ren looked at Amano Hina again. His golden eyes locked onto hers, piercing through her defenses.
"You, you said I'm the target? What do you want?!"
After watching the scene and hearing Ren mention her, she nervously stepped back. Her hands clenched into fists, her body tense.
Unfortunately, the room was too narrow; with four people, there was barely any space to sit, and she hit the wall after one step back. Trapped.
Fearing that Ren had ulterior motives, Amano Hina looked around, trying to find something to defend herself with. A lamp? A pillow? Anything.
"Don't look for anything; no one will hurt you. Instead of worrying about me having ulterior motives for you, you should worry about catching a cold."
As Ren spoke, he had somehow, at some point, moved to stand right in front of Amano Hina. His movement was silent, ghost-like.
She only saw Ren gently raise his hand and slowly lower it, placing it on her shoulder. His touch was warm, surprisingly gentle.
The next moment, a warm current rushed through her entire body. It was like basking in the sun after a long winter.
Her body, which had been cold from being soaked in rain, instantly warmed up. The chill in her bones evaporated.
At the same time, her drenched clothes also dried in the blink of an eye. The damp fabric became crisp and comfortable.
She touched the edge of her clothes in shock; the dry texture was immediately noticeable. It was like magic.
"How amazing!"
Amano Hina looked up again, her eyes no longer showing fear, as if confirming Ren's existence. He wasn't a monster; he was a miracle worker.
"You must be a deity, right? Did you hear my prayer, Great Deity?!"
"If that's what you think, I'm afraid I'll disappoint you."
Ren snapped his fingers crisply. The sound echoed in the small room.
Snap!
Amano Hina was terrified to find herself above the clouds, seeing countless sparkling water droplets flowing upwards in reverse. The world inverted, gravity defied.
Ren's finger pointed at the water droplets and the clouds: "See, that's the deity you prayed to, and it's also the deity that granted you the power of a Weather Maiden."
This guy had been causing heavy rain for a while, but Ren didn't eliminate it. It was a minor nuisance, a cosmic hiccup.
Its existence was not like the deities of Takama-ga-hara; it was more similar to the Musubi. A force of nature given form.
On the strength of the Musubi helping him find Mitsuha, Ren didn't bother to trouble this guy. He was feeling generous.
He merely erased its Weather Maiden contract with Amano Hina. He severed the invisible chains binding her.
"That's... a deity..."
Amano Hina gazed distantly at the far-off place where water droplets and rainbows intertwined. It was beautiful, terrifying, and utterly alien.
"Your Weather Maiden power isn't given to you by that guy for free to play with."
"Huh?"
Amano Hina looked confused. She tilted her head, her twin-tails swaying.
She didn't quite understand. It was a gift, wasn't it?
She discovered her Weather Maiden power when her mother was hospitalized before she passed away, during a prayer for her mother. It felt like a blessing.
But from what Ren said, it seemed not to be so simple. There was a catch.
Ren patiently explained: "That's equivalent to a deed of servitude. A contract written in life force."
"The more power you use, the more your body will disappear, until you finally vanish from the human world and become a so-called deity's miko."
"Disappear!!!"
Disappearing from the human world was pretty much the same as dying, wasn't it? It meant losing everything—her brother, her life, her future.
Amano Hina didn't even doubt Ren's words, she just felt lingering fear.... His tone was too serious, too knowing.
She absolutely didn't want to disappear because of the Weather Maiden's power. She wanted to live.
"Then I absolutely can't use this power casually in the future."
"If you don't want to, it will probably rain every day, forcing you to use it. The world will pressure you."
Ren didn't know how to describe such a coercive and plundering method. It was cruel, a trap disguised as a miracle.
"How can this be?"
Amano Hina's eyes were dull: "Then is my fate only to become a shrine maiden? But... I don't want to disappear..."
Thinking that she would one day disappear from the human world, tears finally couldn't help but fall from the corners of her eyes. They traced paths through the dust on her cheeks.
Her own fate seemed to have been so unfortunate since childhood. Loss, poverty, and now this curse.
"Don't cry yet, isn't it possible that I came to you for this? I've already solved the problem you have."
"..."
Amano Hina felt that Ren was making fun of her. Was he mocking her despair?
"Lord God... are you deliberately mocking me by not speaking clearly at once?".
A bitter smile appeared on Amano Hina's face, her gaze distant. She felt like a pawn in a game she didn't understand.
She always felt that the God in front of her had a mischievous streak of teasing her. He enjoyed her confusion.
"Of course, isn't it interesting?"
Ren unhesitantly hooked her chin, lifting her face to meet his gaze.
And in her puzzled and shocked gaze, he licked away the tears from her cheek with the tip of his tongue.
"Eh!!!"
Amano Hina, realizing what had happened, quickly had a blush spread across her neck and cheeks. Her skin burned where he had touched her.
"L-Lord God, what are you doing?"
Her face had been licked, and the scorching warmth still lingered. It was intimate, shocking, and strangely electrifying.
More importantly, the Lord God was a very handsome and young male. His proximity was overwhelming.
So Amano Hina was both shy and scared. Her heart raced like a drum.
Ren savored the salty yet fresh taste of the young girl, and chuckled softly: "Hehe, I told you not to call me God. This is a small punishment."
"Let's go back."
