Chapter 1 - Of all the idiots

Being a ROB was kinda boring...

Sure, it was nice to fight off the random Outer God, or random gods that came looking for fights. At the end of the day, though, not much happened. Most of your time as a ROB was sitting in one spot and projecting power for the big guys upstairs.

Sure, you get great benefits, but no vacation time at all. Fortunately, our ROB was stationed near one of the myriads of alternate earths, where a certain white truck was up to his usual shenanigans. . .

Watching the truck speed through NYC was more fun than you think, especially when the cops kept trying to ram the truck, and it just didn't work. Of course, for the people of NYC, it was much less fun since the idiot inside this truck had already killed three people, and made that four.

Oh? That one is interesting. I didn't think a human could be turned into such a fine paste. ROB noted, deciding to spice up his life. Extending the tiniest sliver of power, the paste on the street that used to be a man was slowly reformed until he was complete once more.

ROB noticed he was less than pleased as he immediately started screaming. "Quiet." That did the trick as the male human became silent, though still trying to scream. As the human slowly calmed down, ROB spent a bit of time rummaging through his storage space until he found what he was looking for.

Seeing he had the human's undivided attention, he showed what he'd dug up from his storage. "Welcome, little human. As I'm sure you've surmised, you died. However, your death was an interesting one, and so you won't be joining the reincarnation queue today."

The human's mind buzzed with questions, but he was kept silent until his input was needed. ROB then 'walked' over and gently placed the item inside the human's soul, safe and sound. "What I just placed within you is known by many names, but the most common is the Chaos Gacha. It will reward you for accomplishing feats, and I'm sure you know how to spin a wheel?"

ROB smiled at the human's silent nod. "Splendid! Now, I'm sure you have many questions, so I will now give you back your voice before sending you on your way." With a snap, the human felt something that had been blocking their throat remove itself.

"Is there no way for me to go back home?" He asked as ROB shook his head. "No, your death has been recorded and sent to the records. You would be treated as an intruder if you somehow returned."

"Do you know where I'm going to end up?" ROB nodded, "I do, but it would spoil my fun if I told you. I'm sure you'll recognize it, however."

"How does this whole Gacha thing work exactly?" "Ah, that is a much better question!"

"Put simply, it's a reward system for going above and beyond, or by simply standing out and accomplishing what are known as 'Feats.' The Gacha will then reward you with tickets of various rarities that you can then spend to win a variety of things."

The human then took a few moments as it seemed the system itself had booted up and was speaking to him. ROB was in no hurry, however, more than content to have the human present as he reached out across the cosmos to his companions, letting them know of a new source of entertainment for them.

All the while, the earth below continued spinning silently as the Human, Gacha, and ROB coexisted in peace.

"I think I'm ready." The Human finally said as ROB stirred from his musings. "Very well, I do warn you that you may be reborn as an infant. Other than that, I have one small request." "What would that be?" The Human asked curiously as the ROB smiled, something that alarmed the Human greatly, seeing something so large and inhuman smiling at him.

"Cause chaos wherever you go. Many others and I will be watching you, so give us a good show, and you might get a reward." The Human nodded, partly out of fear as the ROB's face returned to 'normal'. With a flick of his hand, the Human disappeared as ROB decided he liked the silence of the void, marginally more.

As it gazed into the stars, it wished the Human would hurry up and reach their new world. Even with the near omnipotent powers it had, it still could not force a fundamentally different soul into a new system without the proper documentation, which took time.

Thankfully, ROB didn't have to deal with that; he only had to send the soul on its way and then wait for the Department of Soul Transfers to reach out and inform him of the soul's arrival.

As it waited, it kept watch over the planet below and the space beyond. Though powerful, the vastness of space was very daunting and full of danger, even for a ROB. Even in a galaxy as mundane as this one, things lurked in the dark reaches of space that were better left alone and unnoticed.
