Chapter 26 - Master's no more

Chapter Twenty-Six

**Mag Mar Tun Doh Weg's POV**

Mag Mar Tun Doh Weg was very pleased at how the meeting was progressing. What surprised him the most was this Little Star had known the old ways, or at least enough not to be insulting.

Not only did the Little Star treat with them almost correctly, but she was able to use proper mind speak like a civilized being. Not the silly mouth talk of the small ones that Giants hated, taking far too long to say things that could simply be known, mouth speak was for roaring intimidation to scare your enemies. Within the first ten minutes of meeting the Little Star he had known her entire life story, she had of course told the truth to the Giants it being impossible to deceive in Mind Speak, a terrible and tragic truth that made them all sad for her, she had gone through much for one so young, yet so very, very, very old and she still had a ways to go.

Mag Mar Tun Doh Weg did not even need to ask why she simply didn't just finish it, but he understood what she wanted and it was not the place of being like him to question. He truly did not envy her future struggles, but he was confident she would prevail.

After the first hour or so of Mind Speak they started telling her about their stories passed down to every Giant and remembered throughout the ages, though she had to stop every once in a while to use slow mouth speak with the Little Wolf Mother, as the Servant had addressed the other small one, to see how well the old stories had held up across the ages. Mag Mar Tun Doh Weg was happy some stories survived with only some errors and was excited to be able to tell them once again to someone not a Giant. She even asked about the Evil... Giants had nothing, no words were ever created by the old ones in mind speak for the Evil, so it was simply called the Evil. They had to resort to slow mouth speak to describe *White Walker* and the Little Star frowned not able to understand the scoop of the evil with the Mouth Words alone.

The Little Star was curious about the Children, and after she calling them *Forest Sprites*, "a clever and powerful magic race who often worked with Ent's in shepherding the forest, they typically keep away and dislike most humans," as she gave them the name her own people called them, the funny name striking a cord deep inside, that the Giants would remember and start using.

Things seemed to change after her slow mouth talk with Mance, she seemed almost angry at first, either not getting the answers she needed or upset with the Small ones. It didn't matter to him anymore anyway; the Giants had agreed to join the blooming Star and do what the Giants were created by the God's to do; to protect the Land and its people. She had asked if the Giants' offer to join her fight would apply to aiding her sister as well, which the Giants appreciated deeply. They had of course already agreed to help, how could they not, after knowing what they now knew.

To show how much the little Star cared about her people she gave all their warriors gifts for battle, to aid the Giants in showing the world once more that they were still here. That Giants would stand and fight alongside the Little Star and her Little Dragon Sister.

Watching her work, Mag Mar Tun Doh Weg could not help but be curious how she held it back, what was pushing its way into her very being held back by Will alone. What kind of being had a will so strong they could endure what she did and even now still resist. He saw the other glow beginning to form around her edges and watched her push it back down slowly with her magic trinket. He frowned, seeing the pain she was keeping from the world, until she finally relaxed again, finding the right balance she needed to keep fighting the inevitable.

Once all arrangements were made, and with the Giants part of the camp cleaned up thousands had showed up to watch the spectacle unfold curious to what was about to happen. Standing in the center of a very large Circle of Giants mounted on their Mammoths was Hermione. Lady Stark was off to the side with Rakharo. At a signal she spoke one *Magical* mouth word.

*"Gryffindor."* then a Bloom of Golden magic spread outward from the Little Star encompassing all of them as each Giant Held a *Portkey* which in this case was a piece of rope spelled and tied to the Mammoths harness.

The world moved strangely for a moment, as everyone witnessed the Giants disappear into thin air from the clearing. Every Giant became dizzy for but a moment each finding there equilibrium far faster than most, and then they found themselves standing in open desert with two armies facing each other across the sand. Mag Mar Tun Doh Weg decided it was time for the little Star to rest and time for the Giants to introduce themselves.

Mag Mar Tun Doh Weg grabbed his horn and gave a mighty blow to signal the rest of the Giants to form up on him. As each Giant and Mammoth found their place they each signaled their readiness with a mighty blow of their own war horns. Mag Mar Tun Doh Weg saw the Little Star having difficulty staying upright on her shaky legs and as gently as he could scooped her up. She *YIPPED* in surprise. The Giant King simply chuffed out a laugh and placed her carefully on his left shoulder, where she leaned against the side of his great head with her legs dangling freely. She placed a sticking charm on her seat; a small amount of magic used on herself to stay seated and seemed quite content not to have to walk or move at all for a moment.

Lady Stark was happily escorted by Rakharo away from both armies as she honestly wanted nothing to do with any fighting and was happy to return towards the camp, even if she worried for Rob.

Mag Mar Tun Doh Weg noticed the tiny elephants lined up across the field with the shiny armored Small ones and remarked to the Little Star in Mind Speak that perhaps his daughter would like one as a pet. The Little Star chuckled and smiled at this and replied, "every little girl wants a pony from her father at some point I suppose," glowing just a little brighter for a moment as they made their way forward between the ranks of the Dragon Queen's army.

Mag Mar Tun Doh Weg was impressed by the Dragon Queens men. Not only had they embraced the Giants without flinching, but they also showed no fear whatsoever at the sight of them. "Truly a mighty people," he remarked once more in mind speak, which caused Hermione to smile again, "they truly are, aren't they." She replied, with no one else on the field knowing truly a conversation was going on in the first place, such simple Small ones Mag Mar Tun Doh Weg thought to himself.

Dismounting while trying not to jostle the Little Star was easier than expected. The moment his feet touched the ground every Giant pulled out their mighty new bows, the Javelin-like arrows notched and ready, all made by the Little Star herself from ironwood and dragon bone drawn from her own stock. Every bow loaded and waiting on the signal from their king to rain ruin upon the enemy.

After the Dragon Queen spoke with the other Shinny small Commander for a moment Hermione signaled for her even smaller magic servant who appeared with a *POP*. Then, loud enough for everyone on the battlefield to hear, she said, "I have more important things to do than watch everyone have a measuring contest to which I have absolutely nothing to prove so when you're all done playing king of the hill, Dany, come see me we have a few things to discuss. Winky, take me to my quarters."

Both disappeared with a *POP* as the entire city and both armies saw her leave with little fanfare.

**Hermione's POV**

The moment her feet touched down on a solid surface everything went black as she finally was consumed by her exhaustion, where she slept the entire day and night away.

She was having the same nightmare that had been plaguing her for a while now. She fought against it enough to finally claw her way back to waking in a cold sweat with her arm tingling as the wrapping helped cool the constant annoyance, only to realize the bed she was currently occupying as well as the entire *very well decorated she noted* room was gently rocking back and forth beneath her, almost causing her to pass out from her equilibrium playing catch up.

"Where was she?" she wondered to herself the gentle breeze of the sea air thru the port hole letting the sounds of gulls to be heard, a very relaxing sound to be sure.

"Winky," Hermione called out, and with a *POP* Winky appeared, teary eyed as she threw herself against Hermione in a large hug.

"Oh, you're awake Mistress, finally! You have been asleep all day and night." Winky's ears drooped slightly with concern before perking back up, still holding the hug to which Hermione reciprocated. "Since Mistress never set up a tent with the camp after she left for the Giants, Winky had to bring you to the only place Winky had set up properly for Mistress. Winky's Flagship, "THE MISTRESS GRANGER." Winky finished with her little chest puffed out in considerable pride, her hat somehow swaying as if a stronger breeze was blowing it but wasn't...

Hermione kept a smile on her face, but a small and noticeable twitch had started to develop in her right eye whenever Winky came up with new things to spring on Hermione.

She sighed and thanked Winky sincerely for all her troubles and told her she would be fine after a small meal.

"Winky is super happy she could help but needs to get back to the search," Winky said, and disappeared with a *POP* before Hermione could get a single word in edgewise.

Hermione sat there for a moment just now noticing that Winking had put together her normal English breakfast for her before leaving.

She hadn't even had the chance to tell Winky she believed she had located Jon. She just sighed, gathered her things, and quickly ate the food as it would be rude to leave Winky's hard work unappreciated. After she fully cleaned herself, and her cloths with a few quick spells, and ensured she was not missing anything she nodded to herself not entirely sure she was ready for what she needed to do next, and with a *POP* went to find Dany, who she was quite certain was worried.

**Daenerys Targaryen's POV**

Dany was pacing, once again with concern. She had seen Hermione, seen just how bone tired she looked, and needing Winkys help, Winky let her know that she was resting and would show when she was ready, but when would that be?

Everything had gone far too well, after Hermione disappeared with Winky she had somehow felt an emptiness that made Dany anxious, and Dany really hated feeling powerless especially since she could do nothing to help. After Hermione's rather extraordinary entrance had given Dany the space to deliver her speech to the now more receptive audience, things had moved quickly. She had ordered the catapults forward and launched the wicker bundles with the former slave collars, to prove my claims of freedom, and for a bit of added flair to be fair Hermione had said a bit of flair can wow the masses, and the effect on the watching city had been everything she had hoped.

What she had not expected was for Young Griff to actually smile, give a small nod to Lord Connington, to which in turn he sent some prearranged signal into the city. Then all hell broke loose behind the walls as slaves all over the city started cutting down Masters with hidden weapons.

Lord Connington and Young Griff had dismounted and kneeled before her, and sworn the Golden Company to her cause, terms to be discussed later. As a gift the Golden Company never planned to align with Meereen but had secretly armed a great number of the slaves within the city, they just wanted to get the queens measure before committing to the cause. It seemed there were dozens of Masters who had built a kind of underground network to help escaped slaves flee the worst of the Masters. As one of the Golden Company was a former slave and used his connections in order to get into contact with those who could help, every cruel Master in the city was dealt with before Dany could even lift a finger to stop it, not that she would as it solved a few problems she had in the previous two city's before. Dealing with the evil Masters and keeping those who could be beneficial and given a second chance.

The only things asked in return from the Golden Company were that those who wished to go home be allowed to, and that those who wished to fight alongside her be given a place at the table. Dany had tentatively agreed, saying she would find a proper place for Lord Connington and Young Griff once everything was resolved, and they had accepted.

She was still pacing when a loud *POP* announced Hermione's return. She appeared whole and no longer looking as though death had been working her over, which was a relief. But there was something in her eyes that Dany had not seen there before.

Hermione looked at her for a moment, quiet and still.

"We need to talk,"
