Kulu watched them disappear down the ravine before turning his sharp golden eyes back to Hana. A fond, quiet smile pulled at his lips.
"For someone who claims to have no pity, you certainly move fast to save people," he teased softly, stepping closer to wrap one of his massive, feather-draped arms around her waist, pulling her back flush against his warm chest.
Hana leaned back into his heat, letting out a short, breathy huff as she checked the digital countdown timer on her wrist display.

"I told you, it's not pity," Hana grunted, though she didn't pull away from his touch. "It's logistics. Those two adults can carry stones, and those kits will grow under my system. Every pair of hands counts when the polar shift hits."
