Chapter Title: Unknown

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The moment Seo-jun took down Etore, he lost control of his body, and a cutscene kicked in.

"Hypocritical assassin guild's hunting dog! You won't get away alone!"

"!"

But unlike Seo-jun, Dane—who was now controlling the body—didn't react right away. Etore, barely clinging to life, bolted into the bedroom and tore up some parchment.

Boom!

A ferocious explosion rocked the area nearby, turning the air blood-red as if it were aflame.

"Damn it!"

Dane glanced out the window to see nearby buildings detonating one after another, flames and debris flying everywhere.

And if this kept up, the next one would be...

Crash!

Dane hurled himself through the window and escaped the instant he realized it.

The screen showed Etore laughing behind him.

Boom!

The moment Dane shattered the window and leaped out, a massive explosion erupted behind him, scorching his back with fire.

Riiiing!

His ears rang as he hit the grass face-first, vision blurry. By the time his focus started to sharpen...

"Over here! The terrorist is here!"

In the distance, faintly, he could see soldiers swarming in.

Even in his dazed state, Dane desperately scrambled to his feet and started running.

He vaulted over the estate wall but tumbled forward, then got back up and climbed onto a rooftop.

A chase ensued.

As the distance gradually widened and Dane's vision cleared, an arrow whistled from behind and lodged in his shoulder.

Then a fireball spell slammed into him dead-on.

Finally, battered and broken, Dane plunged into the nearby river.

A mysterious someone watched the scene unfold.

The soldiers saw him fall from the rooftop, assumed he was dead, and turned back. The scene then shifted.

A man stared blankly at the sea.

As he stood to head somewhere, a dark shape washed up on the waves caught his eye.

The man approached it slowly and realized it was a corpse.

He casually rummaged through the body and pulled out a brooch emblazoned with an eagle in flight—the symbol of freedom—tucking it into his own pocket.

◇◇◇◆◇◇◇

Once Seo-jun regained control of his body, he checked the chat window first.

Then he said what he'd been wanting to say.

"If it were me, I'd have parried that arrow and the magic."

Ruins the immersion but it's fucking hilarious lololol

— Viewer

I can totally see you doing that

"No, really, dying with someone else's face like that is just too much."

— Viewer

Fr lol

— Viewer

He deserved to die lololol

Seo-jun confirmed the chat reactions and clapped his hands.

"Alright, so what do we do now?"

He was currently in a tavern.

Christina, whom he'd seen during the tutorial, was wiping down some cups.

"Anyone can tell we're supposed to talk to her..."

Seo-jun approached her. As he got close, the auto-dialogue triggered again.

"Customer? Need something?"

"Something I need? Yeah. A lot, actually."

Christina tensed up warily, but Seo-jun pulled the brooch from his pocket and slammed it on the table.

Christina startled, snatching it up and hiding it quickly.

She glanced around to make sure the other patrons hadn't noticed, and seeing no reaction, hurriedly dragged Seo-jun into the kitchen, where they were alone.

"Who the hell are you?"

"Calm down. I'm just here because I think I can help."

"What... what are you talking about?"

"I'm taking commissions. Especially assassinations—I'm confident in those."

"...How much do you know?"

"Everything. The tiresome history between your assassin guild and the secret societies that run the power structure, your goals, your fights—I know it all. Because I've clashed with those society bastards in Sion."

"You don't mean... you're from the west?"

"That's right."

"Mercenaries who'll do anything for the right price wouldn't side with the societies. Fine, then. Introductions. I'm Christina."

"I'm..."

Seo-jun regained control of his mouth.

— Viewer

Oh, finally picking a nickname?

— Viewer

No way his streamer name was really Jin Seo-jun this whole time?

— Viewer

Real name ain't bad lol

Seo-jun's current streamer name was his real name, since he hadn't set anything else.

Streamer names could be anything—your buddy's name like Kim Tae-woo, something instrument-related like taiko drums, or a twisted meme. Total freedom.

'Safest bet is the real name.'

No point overthinking it when he wasn't sure how long he'd keep this up.

And for the in-game nickname...

"Unknown."

⚙ SYSTEM NOTIFICATION ⚙

Would you like to use 'Unknown'?

It was a trendy phrase from his past life.

Unknown. Contrary to its meaning of "nothing," it sounded cool and mysterious, popular back then.

⚙ SYSTEM NOTIFICATION ⚙

Yes

"Yeah, perfect. Unknown."

"How do I contact you when I need you?"

"Hold on. First, I need to know where this brooch's owner is buried."

"West pier."

"Got it."

Christina reacted calmly to the news of her comrade's death.

It was probably meant to subtly show just how disposable life was in their line of work.

⚙ SYSTEM NOTIFICATION ⚙

You can now receive assassination commissions at the 'Sun Tavern'!

"Use this for contact."

⚙ SYSTEM NOTIFICATION ⚙

Acquired 'Signal Stone'!

Seo-jun received the item called Signal Stone and stepped out of the tavern.

— Viewer

Unknown out of nowhere?

— Viewer

Room host's streamer nick is Unknown from now on?

— Viewer

How's a person's name Unknown lolololol

"Ah, Unknown is just my in-game nick. Haven't decided on a stream name yet, so we'll stick with this for now. Call me whatever."

— Viewer

Seo-ha!

— Viewer

Nice! Unknown! Perfect assassin nick! GOAT!

"Alright! That's it for me—ending the stream. I'll go live at the same time tomorrow. Tr—cough. Travel!"

Shouting "Travel!" felt kinda cringy, so he fumbled it.

— Viewer

lololol so cute

— Viewer

Travel!

— Viewer

Be there tomorrow.

"Oh, wait—does it auto-save if I just log out?"

Games could be tricky like that.

Not because he was old or anything.

— Viewer

lololol you said you were leaving

— Viewer

You can just quit. For real.

— Viewer

Lmao total noob lololol who knew you were a game newbie

Fwoosh!

"Hey."

"Yeah?"

"This you?"

Tae-woo tapped the screen on his phone to check the video.

"It's obviously you."

They were in the Assassin's Dawn community.

The reason? A weird chat that had popped up in Seo-jun's stream earlier.

💬 Comments

— Viewer

Should've come earlier, missed it lololol

Reviewing the stream replay, Seo-jun figured he must've missed that chat live. Checking the timestamp, it was a few minutes after he'd ended the stream.

He scrolled up the chat log.

— Viewer

This the Musou stream?

— Viewer

Why's it off?

There were a bunch more like that.

Seo-jun panicked. No way people were showing up after the stream ended.

Sure, big-name streamers got visitors even offline.

But his? A fresh stream with 6 viewers.

So he asked Tae-woo, who'd ended around the same time, and found this post.

Joseon's Assassin, a viewer, had diligently clipped and uploaded it.

'That viewer from earlier.'

Pretty memorable. Spotted his skills early, even spammed chat.

Seo-jun scrolled down to the comments.

Not me. Unknown did it. No fake in the title.

"Day one and you've got a viewer doing first clears and shilling for you. Impressive."

Tae-woo saw it and remarked dryly from the side.

"Shilling?"

"Yeah. What else would you call this?"

Tae-woo scrolled down to highlight some comments.

— Hater

Jo-am changed his avatar now that he's streaming? Old face was ugly af...

— Joseon's Assassin

I said it wasn't me!

It was aimed at Joseon's Assassin, but "newbie cosplay" stung Seo-jun a bit. Though he was a newbie to Assassin's Dawn, so whatever.

Stream just ended (channel link) watch the VOD. Unknown is the hope of Musou!

Seo-jun got what Tae-woo meant.

"That's why they call it shilling?"

"Pretty much. Bet your followers shot up already."

He was right.

From 6 followers to over 60.

Followers: 68

"Whoa."

"And it'll hit 30 recs soon. Then it'll blow up way more. I'm off to bed."

The community had a feature to filter posts with 30+ recommendations.

Most casual browsers only checked those, so views between 10-rec and 30-rec posts were night and day.

"Night."

Seo-jun felt a strange sense of anticipation.

◇◇◇◆◇◇◇

Joseon's Assassin's post hit 30+ recs, just as Tae-woo predicted.

And the community exploded as usual.

— Hater

What kinda fake is this "newbie"

— Reply

How do you even fake that

— Hater

Our friend doesn't know about video editing? ㅎㅎ

[Why Unknown's Video is Legendary]

====

Reasons vets couldn't clear Etore in a week:

1. Lore-wise Dane's near-normal, no skills. Tutorial's skill-less on purpose. (Devs prob intended)

2. Etore's flail has no parry judgment. No instakills. (Most bosses same. Only pure assassinations instakill.)

3. Time attack—biggest issue.

Tanking casually? Vets can.

Dodge everything in 5 mins while hammering weak spots? Impossible without god moves.

Pre-video, everyone thought impossible. No one tested full damage scaling.

Pros too busy.

This Seo-jun streamer grabbed it on want. Insane skill. Who grabs a flail that close, nullifies all attacks, and throats it?

Newbie? Wtf.

I was amazed. Control god. Who even plays like that lolololol

Subbed instantly.

Now we know Etore's doable, gonna try (can't resist) but doubt I can.

====

— Hater

Conclusion: Pros busy so he first-cleared. Seo-jun ain't special.

This guy's full of shit

Analysis rec

— Hater

Why fuss over a first clear? Lol no one even tried much.

This is from someone who's never played. Pure hater bs.

Boosted by Joseon's Assassin, Unknown bounced around mouths far and wide, until consensus formed.
