A Deino at purple quality!
A pseudo legendary of this calibre could go for hundreds of millions of pokedollars in the black market. Of course, you would have to be stupid to sell one.
Not to mention, if you don't have sufficient strength, people will try their best to hunt you down for it. Who wouldn't? We are talking about a Pseudo Legendary here!
And this kind of Pokemon was now in front of Eric. He silently raised his appraisal of Maverick. He was truly an incredibly powerful trainer.
'Still, it's only level 14. Pseudo Legendaries aren't that strong in the beginning. Even if it has a Purple quality, can it really match his Spearow while being so under leveled?
Eric doubted it. His Spearow has the capability of defeating pokemon higher level than her. Losing to a Pokemon with such a large level gap, Eric did not think it was possible. Maverick was going easy in him.
This, Eric sent Spearow into battle, fully confident of his victory.
He did not realise how wrong he would be.
"Spearow, Aerial Ace!"
"Dodge, then dragon breath."
Spearow shot towards Deino like an arrow, but in the last moments before making contact, Deino skillfully side-stepped and immediately fired a dragon breath, knocking Spearow down.
Despite her speed, his movements were so refined that there was no possibility of avoiding the attack.
Eric was surprised, but he didn't panic.
"Spearow, fly up. Then dive down and use Peck!"
Maverick didn't give Deino any orders and watched calmly.
Deino shot a dragon breath at her without any commands.
Spearow was very skillful with using Peck. Her mobility and control over her movements was excellent. Just like the Vulpix from before, she spiraled around the dragon breath, and headed towards Deino.
Deino once again waited for the right moment. He stopped using Dragon Breath and side stepped, just at the moment when he felt Spearow couldn't change her attack directions, then when Spearow missed and was right next to him, he used Head Smash!
"Protect!"
Eric shouted hurriedly. Spearow immediately used Protect, surroundings herself with a barrier.
The head smash made contact, and after a slight struggle, broke through the barrier and hit Spearow, sending her flying.
Spearow landed face down on the ground, a few meters away. She managed to stay conscious due to the protect reducing the attack's strength significantly, but she was severely wounded.
Deino then followed up with a Dragon Pulse!
Spearow got up with sheer determination, and flew up to dodge it.
She was very angry now. She could tell this Deino was similar in strength to her. Yet, she was already close to passing out without even landing a hit.
Even Eric was shocked. This Deino's movements were way too skillful. The way it could instantly apply strength in his legs to dash and dodge, his control over his body, and his fighting instincts. All of them were exceptional.
Maverick hadn't even issued a command after the first one.
"What's wrong? Surprised you can't land a hit."
Eric looked annoyed at that comment, causing Maverick to chuckle.
"There's a lot more to training Pokemon than just moves and energy. What you saw just now was an application of 'movement maneuvers'."
"Movement maneuvers?"
"It's an unofficial term for it. It basically refers to the way a pokemon moves in a battle. The way it dodges, the way it attacks, its fighting instincts, and so on."
He then looks at Deino, and says,
"My Deino has been trained to apply an instant burst of power through his legs, along with exceptional body control, keen battle instincts, and the ability to adapt to different fighting styles. You'll have to try a lot harder than that if you want to hit him."
"Spearow! Plan 3!"
Spearow again shot towards Deino with peck. Studying her movements, Deino side stepped to dodge, but something he didn't expect happened. The flying type energy around Spearow turned dark, as she changed her attack directions at the last second!
Feint Attack! The peck was a fake.
Spearow lands the hit, knocking back Deino slightly, then she rams into him with a powerful Aerial Ace, sending him flying.
" Dei!"
Deino slams into the ground.
"Well that was an impressive tactic."
Maverick smiled as he commented.
"Well, you were underestimating us a bit too much." Eric commented as he gave Spearow his next order.
" Aerial Ace!"
Deino watched Spearow carefully. He didn't know if this was the true attack or another feint. Making a decision, he chose not to dodge but to meet the attack head on with Head Smash!
"Fly up, then attack him from behind."
Spearow flew up and passed Deino who was rushing forward. She then turned around to attack him while he was charging forward.
Deino used the momentum of his Head smash to jump slightly, then he turned 180 degrees upside down, with his head facing Spearow, and used Dragon Pulse.
Spearow was already on him, so she landed the Aerial Ace, but was also hit by a point-blank Dragon Pulse.
Both Pokemon were knocked back. Spearow passed out whereas Deino barely managed to stay up.
Eric then went up to Spearow to heal him. Maverick did the same with Deino.
"Do you see where you could've done better in the fight, Deino? "
"Dei!"
"That's right. You should've used Protect the moment Spearow hit you with feint attack and made you vulnerable. Any good trainer won't miss that chance to attack"
He then walked towards Eric who was consoling Spearow.
"Here. This is the flying type core of a B+ Intermediate pokemon."
"We didn't win though."
"Don't worry about it. You fought well. That fight gave Deino some good experience. That's enough for me. This core isn't much use to me anyways."
Eric took the core. He wasn't one to deny benefits over the sake of pride or anything like that. If someone was giving him something useful, he'll take it.
"Now be prepared. Spearow has already reached the required level. He'll start evolving the moment you finish healing him."
Just as Maverick said, Spearow was now level 20 after this fight.
After healing up, Spearow let out a cry as he was covered by a bright white light.
"Now, give her the core and tell her to absorb all the energy in it."
" Take it Spearow. Absorb without restraint."
Spearow eagerly took the core and started absorbing. The energy was being absorbed hungrily, at a much faster pace than normal. When it was absorbed fully, Spearow let out a loud cry, as the light around her grew exceptionally bright.
Then, from within the light, emerged a large, 4 feet tall bird, with a long beak and red spiky hair.

After absorbing the core, Fearow's potential increased to Green, and her level also rose by one, reaching lvl 21!
"Feaaroww!!"
She let out a loud cry after evolving, excited with the surge in strength she was feeling.
"Congratulations, Fearow!"
Eric smiled as he congratulated her.
With that, the first of Eric's Pokemon had evolved.
