The heavy door clicked shut, leaving us completely alone. I shifted restlessly on the hard wooden chair, every second dragging like an eternity.
My mind was already racing through the dark, unfamiliar corridors of this massive estate, trying to map out a way to find him. I turned toward Nathan, my voice urgent and sharp.
"Then there is no problem at all," I said, the words spilling out fast. "I can move freely among them. I can blend in—dress plainly, keep my head down, and act exactly like another maid going about her chores. No one will look twice at me."
Nathan let out a long, rough breath and rolled his eyes toward the ceiling, his entire face showing he thought this plan was pure madness. He folded his arms tight across his chest, shaking his head like he couldn't believe what he was hearing. He looked utterly terrified for me.
