Jamie swung his legs over the bed, planting a kiss on Alex's cheek. "Last night was insane, huh?"
Alex forced a smile. "Totally insane."
Mia burst into the room, a whirlwind of designer clothes and attitude. "Okay, spill. What. Happened."
Jamie looked between them, oblivious. "Uh, we got married?"
Mia raised an eyebrow. "Details, Alex."
Alex shrugged. "Tequila. Beach. Elvis. You know, the works."
Mia shook her head. "I'll handle damage control. You two... figure out... this." She waved at the "this" – their marriage – and stalked off to make phone calls.
Max, Jamie's brother, sauntered in, eyeing Alex with a smirk. "Congrats, bro. You got yourself a keeper."
Jamie's face lit up. "Thanks, Max!"
Alex felt a twinge. Max had always been a bit too charming.
As Max leaned in to hug her, Mia snapped, "Max, not now." He raised his hands, backing off.
Tension sparked between Mia and Max. Interesting.
