Chapter 1 - “Such a Beautiful Day"

The soft, golden light of the early morning sun streamed through the window, gently illuminating Rue's face as he slowly roused from sleep.

The peacefulness of the moment felt like a soothing embrace, easing any lingering remnants of fatigue and leaving her with a feeling of tranquility and calm.

However, just as she was beginning to fully embrace the peaceful morning, a sudden, loud voice shattered the quiet atmosphere.

"Wake up, you lazy bum!"

Rue's eyes snapped open, his gaze finding that of his teacher, standing at the front of the classroom, a disapproving expression etched onto her face. The lesson's dull drone resumed, blending into the background as he tried to focus.

"Rue, were you listening?" the teacher asked, her tone disapproving.

Rue shifted uncomfortably in his seat, realizing that his momentary lapse in attention had not gone unnoticed.

"Uh…yeah, I was just…thinking about…"

he trailed off, the excuse sounding weak

even to his own ears.

"Right," Ms. Davis replied skeptically.

"Well, if you were listening, why don't you come up here and answer this question on the board?"

Rue's heart rate quickened as the teacher's request sank in. He felt a wave of anxiety wash over him as all eyes in the class turned his way. He swallowed hard, glancing briefly at the blackboard where the question was written.

His palms grew damp, and his mind started racing. He could feel the weight of everyone's gaze upon him, judging and scrutinizing. He didn't want to look stupid, he didn't want to look weak.

He stood up, his legs feeling slightly wobbly, and made his way to the front of the room.

As Rue stood in front of the board with the equation before him, he fidgeted with the sleeves of his oversized sweater, a nervous habit he had when he was feeling particularly anxious.

He pushed back a strand of hair that had fallen in his face, his fingers trembling slightly.

Rue was usually a confident and capable student, but situations like these made him feel exposed and vulnerable.

He took another shaky breath, trying to steady himself and focus on the task at hand.

"Well…" he began, clearing his throat.

The classroom was silent, all eyes on Rue. The teacher watched him expectantly, arms crossed. The other students in the class waited, some with looks of anticipation, others with smirks of amusement.

Rue's mind went blank, and for a moment, he simply stared at the board, the numbers and symbols jumbling together in his mind. "Uh, uh…" he stuttered, feeling the pressure mounting.

As the pressure mounted and Rue felt the weight of the entire class's gaze upon him, he suddenly blurted out, "Uh, actually, I…I need to use the restroom."

The teacher raised an eyebrow, skepticism in her eyes. "Now?" she asked, her voice tinged with irritation.

Without waiting for a response, Rue turned on his heel and practically sprinted out of the classroom. As soon as he was out in the hallway, he leaned against the wall, his heart pounding wildly in his chest.

He stood there for a few moments, taking deep breaths, trying to steady himself. He had to admit, even to himself, that he had panicked. The pressure had gotten to him, and he had let his anxiety take over.

As Rue entered the empty restroom, he made his way over to the sink, leaning closer to the mirror. He studied his reflection for a moment, taking in his disheveled appearance. His normally neat hair was unruly, sticking up in different places. He noticed the slight dark circles under his dark eyes, a testament to his restless nights.

He let out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through his hair.

"Pull yourself together,"

he muttered to himself, feeling a mix of embarrassment and shame for panicking in front of the entire class.

After composing himself in the restroom, Rue took a moment to collect his thoughts. He splashed some water on his face, trying to wash away any remaining anxiety.

When he left the restroom

he made his way through the empty halls to his locker. He opened it, grabbing his backpack and slinging it over his shoulder.

He knew that his teachers and classmates would likely be talking about his hasty exit from the class and his panic-driven excuse to use the restroom. He could only imagine the kind of whispers and looks he would receive.

As Rue walked out of the school building, the sun was beginning to set, casting an orange glow over the landscape. The sky was painted with a mix of soft pink and fiery gold, the last few hours of light before the night sky claimed the day.

The warm sunlight danced across Rue's features, highlighting his pale skin. It caught the small freckles across his nose and the slight hint of blond in his disheveled, dark hair.

The gentle heat of the setting sun caressed his face, providing a bit of warmth after the chilliness of the school building.

The soft golden light created a sort of halo around him, emphasizing his slender frame and the oversized clothes that hung loosely on his shoulders.

Despite the stress and anxiety he had experienced in class, being surrounded by the beauty of the outdoor scenery was a small comfort.

As Rue strolled home, his mind shut down any thoughts about the earlier events of the day. He chose to not think about his panicked escape from the classroom, the judgmental gazes of his teacher, and the potential whispers from his classmates. He simply wanted to forget.

Living alone, Rue had grown used to keeping his thoughts and emotions tightly guarded. He found solace in bottling up any negative feelings, burying them deep within his subconscious.

As Rue continued his walk home, he found himself at a crosswalk, waiting for the light to change so that he could cross.

The sun had now almost completely set, and the sky was a deep indigo-violet. The streetlights had come on, casting an artificial glow over the road.

Rue stood at the edge of the curb, his backpack slung over one shoulder. His eyes were fixed on the traffic light, patiently waiting for the signal to change.

As the traffic light turned green, Rue stepped off the curb, his mind still lost in thought. Just as he took a few strides, a loud screeching of tires pierced through the air. Before he had a chance to react, a car came barreling down the road, heading straight for him.

The impact was sudden and forceful. The car struck Rue, sending him flying backwards, his body hitting the pavement with a sickening thud. He lay there, dazed ..blood runniing smoothly ...

rue let out a chuckle as he mumbled ..

"such ..a ...nice ..day "

As the world around him faded into darkness, Rue's vision swam and distorted.
