The trap stopped pretending.
What was controlled pressure, now became really brutal. The ground no longer moved a little but broke in sharp movements. The air got really hard to breathe. The Aether around them started to surge unpredictably.
"This is crazy!" Riven shouted. He struggled to stay on his feet as the ground cracked again.
Mira tried to stay steady. Her voice was strained. "It's not trying to separate us it's forcing us apart!"
Tarin pushed forward. His movements were now really hard. "Hold your ground! Don't lose your position!"
There was no steady ground left.
The formation got way out of control.
Every step they took was hard. Every attempt to regroup got disrupted. Every second they hesitated gave the trap time to get tighter.
Kael felt it clearly.
The shift.
The intent.
This was no longer a test.
This was execution.
A violent surge tore through the space. It split the terrain sharply between Mira and Riven. The ground rose unevenly, created barriers which were not there before.
"Riven!" Mira called out. She tried to move toward him. The ground twisted again.
"I'm fine! I'm fine!" Riven shouted.
Tarin tried to force his way. He was slowed now. His control was slipping.
"We can't regroup!" he said sharply.
Kael already knew.
There was no regrouping.
No stabilizing.
No controlling this.
The formation had reached its stage.
Lyra stood beside him. Her presence was steady. Her breathing was controlled.
"This isn't a trap anymore " she said quietly.
Kael didn't look away. "…No."
Her voice got a little softer. "It's an execution."
Kael's expression didn't change. Internally he agreed.
Another surge hit.
Stronger.
Faster.
The space around Kael tightened. The ground beneath him locked. The distortions around the others pushed them apart.
"Kael!" Mira shouted.
"It's isolating him!" Tarin added.
Lyra reacted fast. She stepped into the narrowing space. Her presence anchored beside Kael.
"I'm here " she said.
Kael glanced at her.
For a moment everything else faded.
"…You shouldn't be " he said.
Lyra shook her head. A faint expression broke through.
"You're really saying that now?"
Kael didn't answer.
Because he couldn't. Because he knew she wouldn't leave.
The pressure spiked again. This time it focused directly.
The Aether around them condensed sharply. It formed into a current that twisted toward Kael.
A strike.
Not from the environment.
Through it.
Kael felt it before it fully formed. His instincts screamed. His mind calculated.
"…This is it."
There was no avoiding it.
No redirecting it completely.
One option remained.
To meet it head-on.
Beyond Veyron Kade stood unmoving. His gaze was fixed.
"Let's see you handle this " he murmured.
There was no curiosity left.
No doubt.
Only intent.
Back within the collapsing structure the attack finalized.
The condensed Aether surged forward. It cut through the space with precision.
Mira saw it.
"Tarin!" she shouted.
Tarin moved anyway. The terrain shifted violently.
Riven froze for a split second.
Kael moved.
His control surged. His Aether rose to meet the strike. He would stop it no matter the cost.
Lyra saw it first. Not the attack but the outcome.
The way Kael positioned himself.
The way the structure aligned.
The way the timing didn't work in his favor.
In that single moment she understood.
"…No."
She moved.
Faster than thought.
Faster than reason.
Stepping forward Into the space, between Kael and the attack.
"Lyra..!"
Kael's voice broke through.
Not controlled.
Not calm.
Real.
The world stopped for a second.
Long enough to realize something irreversible was about to happen.
