Chapter 1 - THE NIGHT SHE SOLD HER FREEDOM

Ayla had always believed that no matter how hard life got, there would always be a way out.

She was wrong.

Standing in front of the most dangerous man in the city, she realized that some problems didn't have solutions.... Only sacrifices.

Her father's debt had brought her here.

And now, the only way to save her family was to marry a man everyone feared

Zayn Varez.

"Sign it."

Ayla,s fingers frozen the moment the word left his lips. The paper in front of her blurred for a second as her heartbeat pounded loudly in her ears. It wasn't just a contract. It was a decision that would change everything.

A marriage contract.

Her name was already printed neatly at the bottom of the page, waiting for her signature. Waiting for her to give away the last piece of control she had over her life.

Slowly, she lifted her gaze.

Zayn Varez was watching her.

He sat across the table like he owned not just the room, but everything around it. His posture was relaxed, but there was something dangerously controlled about him. His eyes were sharp, cold, and unreadable like a man who had already decided the outcome of this situation long before she walked in.

Alya swallowed hard "why?" She finally managed to ask, her voice barely steady. "Why would you agree to this?"

A faint smirk appeared on his lips, but it didn't reach his eyes.

"Because," he said calmly, "you walked into my world with nothing..... And still had the audacity to offer yourself as a deal."

His words hit harder than she expected.

She tightened her grip on the pen. "I didn't have a choice."

Zayn leaned back slightly, his gaze never leaving her face. " Everyone has a choice," he replied coldly. "You just choose the one that leads to me."

Silence filled the room.

Heavy. Suffocating.

Ayla looked down at the contract again, her chest tightening as memories flooded her mind, her father's trembling hands, the fear in his eyes, the threats had turned their lives into a nightmare.

"If I sign this… you'll clear all of it?" she asked quietly.

Zayn didn't hesitate. "Every debt. Every problem. Gone."

Her breath caught.

"And in return?" she asked, even though she already knew.

His eyes darkened slightly.

"You become mine."

A chill ran down her spine.

"Only on paper," she said quickly. "It's just a contract marriage. Nothing more."

For a moment, Zayn said nothing.

Then he stood up.

The movement was slow, deliberate, and somehow more intimidating than if he had rushed toward her. Each step he took made the air feel heavier, harder to breathe, until he stopped right in front of her.

Too close.

Far too close.

Ayla's fingers tightened around the pen as she tried to steady herself.

Zayn leaned down slightly, his face inches away from hers. "Do you really think," he said softly, his voice low and dangerously calm, "that anything involving me is ever 'just a contract'?"

Her breath hitched.

Before she could respond, his hand lifted, his fingers brushing under her chin and forcing her to look at him. His touch wasn't rough—but it wasn't gentle either. It carried a quiet authority that made it impossible to resist.

"If you sign this," he continued, his gaze locking onto hers, "you don't get to walk away after one year."

Ayla's eyes widened. "That's not what we agreed on."

"It is now."

The words were simple.

But final.

Her heart dropped as panic began to rise inside her. This wasn't the deal. This wasn't what she came here for.

She needed to leave.

Now.

Her body tensed, ready to stand, ready to run—

But then her father's face appeared in her mind. The fear. The helplessness. The men who had threatened to destroy everything if the debt wasn't paid.

Her escape disappeared before it even began.

Slowly, her grip on the pen tightened.

Zayn stepped back, watching her carefully, as if he already knew what she was about to do.

Ayla hesitated.

Just for a second.

Then she lowered the pen… and signed her name.

The sound of ink against paper felt louder than it should have. Final. Permanent.

Irreversible.

Zayn picked up the contract, his eyes scanning her signature. A satisfied smile formed on his lips.

"Congratulations," he said quietly.

Ayla looked up at him, her heart racing. "For what?"

He folded the paper neatly before meeting her gaze again.

"For becoming Mrs. Varez."

The words hit her like a shock.

This was real.

She had actually done it.

Zayn stepped closer once more, closing the distance between them until she could feel his presence surrounding her completely.

"Your new life starts now," he said softly.

There was something in his tone that made her stomach twist.

Something dark.

Something dangerous.

"And trust me…" he added, his lips curving into a faint, chilling smile, "you're going to regret every second of it."

Ayla's breath caught in her throat.

And in that moment, a terrifying realization settled deep inside her—

She hadn't just signed a contract.

She had trapped herself in a world she might never escape from.
