Chapter 169 - Chap.166 - Start of the game

"Hello, and welcome to the first match of the Hogwarts Quidditch Season!" Lee Jordan's voice echoed across the field through the voice-amplified microphone. "Today's match is Slytherin versus Gryffindor!"

Rigel noticed that McGonagall was right next to Lee, and knowing about the boy's tendency to 'drift off', she stayed nearby to keep an eye on him.

Lee tried to ignore the woman, which was easy because he was a true fan and quickly became engrossed in narrating the event. McGonagall didn't make things difficult for him either, as long as he didn't say anything stupid, she wouldn't interfere.

-The players take their positions as Madame Hooch approaches to start the game. -Lee's voice continued as the crowd from both sides still cheered excitedly. The players circled the field, but all ended up in the center close to the ground. Madame Hooch was already in the center of the field, with the box containing the balls beside her. She looked at all the players with her usual serious expression.

Inside, she was already calculating how many of those guys would end up injured by the end of the game. Between Quidditch matches, most incidents happened between Gryffindor and Slytherin, those two sides were like water and fire, matches between them always ended with at least minor injuries.

[A/N: On a side note, have you noticed that each Hogwarts house represents an element? Ravenclaw is wind, Hufflepuff is earth, Slytherin is water, and Gryffindor is fire. It's something most fans know, but not all, so if you didn't, you can look it up for a more detailed explanation.]

The Slytherins' regard for Rigel wasn't very positive either, especially the captain, Marcus Flint. They already knew how good Rigel was, and this only made the fact that he was a traitor more repugnant. If he hadn't joined Gryffindor, he would be on their side now.

Rigel could only say that it wasn't his fault, Gryffindor had given too much...

Rigel was sure that this guy would try something during the game, but he had already put on the Icarus pendant, at that point, he was completely comfortable with his physique. He just wanted to see who would end up hurt in the end.

Rigel merely smiled at Marcus, which only made him more irritated. Just because Draco had practically let it go didn't mean the other Slytherins had forgotten about it.

Ignoring the malicious stares of the Slytherins, Hooch shouted. "I want to see a fair game! That goes for everyone!"

She seemed very serious when she said this, but unfortunately no one paid much attention to her warnings, both sides glared at each other with fire in their eyes.

Madame Hooch merely sighed inwardly, knowing there was no point in saying much. She gave the box a light kick, opening it and letting the two Bludgers and the Golden Snitch fly into the air.

Lee took advantage of this moment to continue his narration. - The Bludgers entered the game, followed by the Golden Snitch. Remember, the Snitch is worth 150 points, if the Seeker catches the Snitch, the game ends.

Finally, Hooch bent down and picked up the Quaffle with both hands, and without wasting any more time, she threw it straight into the air.

"The Quaffle is launched!" Lee's voice rose an octave, clearly excited about the start of the match. He wasn't the only one, the crowd made even more noise. None of the players moved until the ball started to fall. At that point, the game had truly begun! "And the game begins!" Lee added.

The moment the Quaffle started to fall, Rigel's world seemed to slow down, it wasn't a skill effect, just intense focus. Rigel's broom accelerated while the other players were still leaning forward.

To the shock of the crowd, Rigel's figure flew over the Slytherin players, with his Nimbus 2000 and physical enhancements, and by the time the Slytherins realized what was happening, Rigel was almost reaching the Hoops.

"Damn it! Go after him!" Marcus shouted and quickly gave chase.

The Gryffindor players didn't waste any time either, Wood was the calmest, flying smoothly towards the Gryffindor hoops. The twins and the girls sped off behind Rigel, while only Harry remained still, still a little disoriented.

Even before the Slytherins arrived, Rigel stopped beside the middle Hoop, the ball inches from it, a completely mocking smile on his face as the Slytherins rushed towards him, trying to stop him.

"Look at this! Rigel Black actually stopped right next to Hoop, the Quaffle, inches from scoring a point. He's clearly mocking the Slytherins. All I can say is..., I like it!" Lee was practically jumping for joy. He wasn't the only one, the Gryffindors went wild.

The exception was McGonagall, who did not appreciate the unsportsmanlike attitude at all, she could only remember it and discuss it with Rigel later.

On the pitch, when the Keeper's hand was just centimeters from the Quaffle, Rigel gave a slight push backward, causing it to go over the Hoop.

"Gryffindor scores!" Lee shouted excitedly.

The Slytherins were booing furiously, what Rigel did was practically trample on their honor!

Rigel didn't care, he knew those guys wanted to pick a fight with him, so he simply gave them reasons to do so, wanting the Slytherins to focus more on him and leave the other players alone. He wasn't afraid of fouls, just kidding, even if he stood still, the other side would be the one to get hurt.

Just let them come!

Rigel, wearing the Icarus' Pendant, was clearly acting a little differently than usual, his demeanor was more uninhibited and animated, and he was clearly enjoying the unhappy faces of the Slytherins.

Although the pendant had no effect on increasing pride or any other emotion of that nature, the effect of removing his worries while flying made him incredibly more expressive, allowing his emotions to slightly cloud his judgment.

Even so, the pendant also gave him a cool calm, so even in that state, Rigel didn't lose his head, he just became... a cool-headed, self-assured bastard.

Thus, Rigel's smile at the sight of the Slytherins' angry eyes was evident, he didn't care and returned to the Gryffindor side.

The Keeper of Slytherin, Miles Bletchley, quickly went to fetch Quaffle.

Quidditch has no pauses or interruptions, when a point is scored, the Keeper of the team that was hit by the hoop simply throws the ball again and 'restarts' the game.

Of course, the moment any player from the team that conceded the goal touches the ball, the game is considered to have 'restarted', it is not necessary for them to play it again.

At that point, Rigel, seeing the Keeper with the ball, wanted to advance to take it, but almost as if he had sensed it, the Keeper quickly threw the ball to a Chaser who rapidly advanced away from Rigel.

The Slytherins aren't stupid, because if they bothered to face Rigel head-on, they could have simply avoided him.

The ball ended up with Captain Marcus, who was advancing in a triangle formation with two Slytherin players behind him.

Angelina tried to stop them, but Marcus kicked her broom away and continued to advance. Rigel, who was chasing them, widened his eyes. Ignoring the game, he pursued Angelina as she fell, and before she could fall badly, he caught her in his arms.

"Look at that! Black caught Johnson in mid-air, clearly leaving the Slytherins behind, a true gentleman! A true Gryffindor! Captain Flint clearly called a foul at that moment and..." Lee stopped talking, looking in that direction, McGonagall was already pulling his ear.

While Lee apologized to McGonagall, Angelina was still shocked. Rigel had no interest in taking advantage of the girl, he quickly climbed down to the side of the girl's fallen broom and let her down, then ran back to the game. Marcus had already scored a point, but considering Slytherin's style of play, Wood could be in danger.

Angelina wanted to thank him, but when she realized it, Rigel had already flown away.

The girl sighed, picked up her broom, and quickly returned to the game.
