Chapter 17 - Tears II

Anna's POV

Mom made a call last week to a foster home. I'm sure we're moving in there. Who's that at the front? She's waving at me, smiling. "Hello?"

"Yes?"

"I'm from the foster home, I'm here for Renee and Anna. I'm asking for you and your things. We already took Cam. Your parents called to transfer you three to our foster home. So? Get packing?"

Are they serious? They're forsaking us? All for some words. That means all I said made sense. "Wait, Cam's way older. Why him too?"

"Get packing Anna." She's not looking nice. She doesn't sound nice either.

Renee packed her stuff, same as myself. Same as Cam. We drove out. When we reach this building, it looks like an asylum. Wait, they want us here. "Where are we?"

"An asylum."

"You said we were going to a foster home. Right?"

"Shut up." She commanded.

Cam stayed silent, how is he just calm through all this? She opened the door, and a tall man wearing a black outfit cuffed us up by our hands.

"Move." She's getting aggressive. Either way, we still obey, who knows? As far as I'm concerned, we're at least a thousand miles from the city, from the town. I see a pot on the first side, the left side. Another at the same pace by the right. This is not an asylum. It's worse, I can feel it. I see a sign on the wall, it's the star. The one from the books.

They're the ones, the cult we saw. Cam stared at it too, I see a person holding a paper. He's a new member, I see some with white coats. Others with red look like they're possessed. She wore black, just like the man. I see some kids my age, they're doing something from our front sight.

I can't see it. No, we're at a new part of the storey building. The right side. I see the normal door, the first one from what I could read, happened to be for soul sale. The second for debt department. And the third for the lord.

She knocked on the door and a voice from inside replied. "Come in." It's a bass voice. Deep enough. She bends the door handle, she stood waiting for us to walk inside. The man behind pushed us in. I slip and fall, Renee stood silent, Cam too. The chairs turned to face the window.

She stood silently, suddenly a voice spoke, "So these are the three? The ones disturbing our plans."

"Yes my lord, they are." She just replied with respect. This is the boss. The leader of the occult.

My heart beat faster, "Alright, proceed." He didn't even look at our faces but I feel like he felt us.

She turned to us to move out, and we moved quickly. She's still in front and the man behind. We go to the left-storey building, she said, "Now you three will see your age mates soon after. First you must sign the papers given to you."

Renee asked, "Or what?"

She stopped walking and stared at her, "Or you die."

Her cold words, her stare. She's one of the heads here. I can feel it. "Now move." Renee's eyes gather tears.

Somehow I feel the tension, we walk to the first floor to get the forms. I'm sure Cam's regretting his decision. When we reach the second floor, we see the red ones. They look normal but why that odd smell, also some sharp objects on the wall.

We reach the second door, she opened it without permission. "Sign them in, they're new. Don't let one slip past you, they're debtors." Debtors?

She walked out with the man, but what about the word, debtors? Who do we owe? He stood up, he's got his face covered. We see only his eyes. But we dare not peep.

He cuts his thumb with a tiny knife. He let his blood flow into a cup, a black cup already sitting before us. After a while, he put it on the paper, on each of them. At a specific spot, he sat on his chair.

"Write your name and sign on it, all three of you." The three of us stare at him and then back at ourselves.

He repeats, "Write your names and sign." She walked into the room, also the man.

"What are they waiting for? We don't have much time."

"They're rather reluctant." He said.

"Get the knives." The man in black leaves her. Renee starts crying, her sobs make me feel worse.

Cam's shaking and I can feel it. She each of us a paper. "Start writing, the sooner the better for you."

Renee took hers first, she wrote her name. She sighed, is she serious? "Good now, drink from the cup."

Renee stared at the woman in her eyes, the man just walked in with the knives. She took the cup, she slowly shut her eyes as she drank from it. She removed it from her mouth. She's still sobbing deeply, her lips covered with blood. She took the knife from him.

She gave Renee a small slash on her hand. She took it to the paper, she put it on the other side close to the man's blood. Both glow, and the paper disappears suddenly. I can't believe it, she just signed a deal, a blood deal. An oath.

"Take to the soul sale than to the ritual room." She said.

"Yes mistress."

She took her eyes to me the moment Renee left the room. "You're next, sign and write. Then the cup, you saw your sister."

I stare at the paper, then the pen. She stood with the knife in her hand, she's waiting. I take the pen and try to read through but I can't. All I see is a space for a name and signature. I write my name with pain in my heart and soul. I sign, and she took the paper and read it silently.

"Good. Now the cup." I turn to the cup. I feel heavy as my hands reach the cup. I stare into it, and finally, I drink from it. Cam took his paper and wrote his name. He signed quickly. She cut his hand and mine, he took it to his paper. He doesn't glow yet, he didn't drink. I take my hand to mine.
