At first, Fred's group, who had managed to get a ride from other survivors, had found themselves in the parts of Sora Town that were not directly obliterated. After all, this area was characterized by various hills, so there were still portions of the town that had been protected from the blast, albeit they were a bit of a distance away.
Further, the meteorite that hit Sora Town was one of the smaller ones, though its effects on those below were naturally still devastating.
Several glass windows and the loose constructs had also been blasted away, and some houses that had light roofing had lost their cover, but without the disintegrating, direct heat of the impact, everything else was fine.
