Chapter 2 - Chapter 1 — The Night I Let It Happen

The night was too quiet.

Not peaceful… just wrong.

Elara Vance slowed her steps, heels echoing softly against the empty street. The air felt heavier than usual, like something unseen was watching—waiting.

A mistake most people would panic over.

But Elara wasn't most people.

Her fingers tightened slightly around her phone, though her expression remained calm. Composed. Unbothered.

Because deep down…

She knew.

It was finally happening.

A black car turned the corner.

Right on time.

Her lips pressed into a faint smile—so small no one would notice.

Anyone else would run.

She didn't.

The car stopped beside her with a smooth, deliberate precision. The door opened.

Silence.

Then—

A man stepped out.

Tall. Broad. Dangerous.

His presence alone shifted the air, turning it colder, sharper.

"Elara Vance," he said, voice low and certain.

Not a question.

She tilted her head slightly, meeting his gaze without fear.

"You're late."

For a split second, something flickered in his eyes.

Surprise.

Good.

Before he could react, another man grabbed her arm—firm, controlled.

Anyone watching would think she struggled.

She did move.

She did resist.

But not enough.

Never enough.

"Let go," she snapped, her voice sharp, convincing.

The act had to be perfect.

Because this wasn't fear.

This was strategy.

They pushed her into the car.

The door slammed shut.

And just like that—

The world outside disappeared.

Inside, it was darker. Colder. Controlled.

She turned her head slowly.

And then she saw him.

Rafael Volkov.

Sitting like he owned the air she breathed.

Sharp features. Unreadable expression. Eyes that didn't just look at her… they assessed, calculated, claimed.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

The tension was thick. Suffocating.

Electric.

"Who are you?" she demanded, voice steady despite the racing of her pulse.

His gaze didn't move.

Didn't soften.

Didn't blink.

"Someone your family should have never crossed."

Her heartbeat skipped.

Right on cue.

She leaned back slightly, letting just enough tension show.

"You're making a mistake."

A pause.

Then—

The faintest shift of his lips.

Not quite a smile.

Something darker.

"You're the mistake," he said quietly.

The car started moving.

Fast.

Locked doors. Tinted windows. No escape.

Exactly as planned.

Her fingers brushed the seat beside her, subtle, careful.

Grounding herself.

Because this was it.

The moment everything changed.

Rafael's eyes were still on her.

Watching.

Studying.

Like he was already trying to figure her out.

Like she was something rare.

Something dangerous.

Good.

Let him think that.

Let him underestimate her.

Because while he believed he had taken her—

Elara Vance had just stepped into his world.

Willingly.

And he had no idea…

She wasn't the one trapped in this car.

He was.
