The sound of raging wind filled the air as Jet, a young thirteen-year-old boy, stood holding a blade in his right hand and a green sheath in the other. He shook uncomfortably in the breeze.
Jet had short, spiky green hair with matching green eyes. He wore a green shirt, green shorts, and brown sandals.
Before him stood a huge green dragon, its friendly bellow shaking the grassy plains.
"Metamorph!" Jet said, straining as the dragon stood on its two hind legs and roared into the air.
Within a few seconds, the dragon turned into a small ball of green light and then merged with the sword, forming a combination of the two.
Jet breathed heavily as he held the sword upwards. Then he smiled widely.
"Os, reconstruct!" he said.
Os reformed outside the sword, returning the weapon to its base form.
"I have about ten Jiva Essence. It allows me to form my Dragon Blade, yet I can't use my power to keep you embedded, Os," Jet said.
Os breathed heavily through its aged nostrils as it glowed a shiny emerald. It then let out a sad whimper as if it understood.
Jet smiled. Then he turned around.
"I reckon I'll head home now. I wish I had enough Jiva to fly on you, yet I can't even keep you in possession that long—even now you're fading away," Jet said as Os began to flash in and out.
Dragons were energy entities tied to human will and were not found naturally. Because of this, people who awakened dragon spirits were very lucky, since a great majority could not.
These dragon spirit bearers had a unique obligation to help balance the world, and thus a tournament to decide the true outcome of the world took place every century.
This was the start of a new century.
Jet was preparing to enter this tournament alone. At first, he had not agreed to this until he awakened Os and saw that Os was a loving creature with a personality of his own.
Because of this, Jet decided to enter the tournament to see if there was a way to promote unity between dragons and humans.
Jet looked up at the blue sky as Os turned into specks of light and disappeared.
Jet sighed.
"That's enough for today then!" he said as he sheathed his sword and began walking toward the city.
Although Jet had just awakened, there were others who had awakened at even younger ages. No one knew what truly caused awakening, and most people believed it was simply random selection.
Jiva is the measurement of how strong the bond is between you and your dragon spirit. The stronger the bond, the more Jiva Essence you have. Leveling up allows you to unlock new skills and abilities.
One thing to know is that if you completely deplete your Jiva, you will lose your dragon ally for life.
Jet had always thought heavily about this. Although Os remained mostly nonverbal, his existence meant a lot to Jet. Jet would do whatever he could to protect Os.
The clock tower in the town ahead sounded off as Jet approached. It was now one p.m. The people could be heard noisily making their way about the town.
The world was composed of five continents. This continent was known as the Altor Continent.
The Altor Continent was triangular in shape and stood among three rectangular continents and one square-shaped continent.
Together, these formed the world of Gosp.
The tournament was set to take place independently in each continent and then the final round would be held in a random continent decided by the Subo the overseers of the tournament.
Jet had first learned about this tournament when he was eight years old. As he didn't have Os then he cared not for it even though his caretaker, an elderly man named Mitch had told him it was the way of the world. Jet had been removed from his parents at the early age of two so he didn't know much about them. It was just this one red round burn mark on the back of his right hand that reminded him of them. As Jet went along with his sword in hand, he sighed at the thought of this. Were they really that horrible or was their some other information that was not understood?
Jet put his thoughts to the side as a darkened city sprung into view.
Large black buildings stretched throughout the city. This city was known as Vexnox. Vexnox was a heavy crime filled city and unfortunately Jet lived here. It was unreasonable to move because the cost of living outside the city was too high for Mitch to afford. He couldn't even blame Mitch for bringing him here although he had heard tales of a slightly better environment where he was from. Up above the sounds of birds could be heard chirping as they flew overhead.
Jet momentarily glanced up and then focused his eyes back onto the city ahead. A loud metallic noise could be heard as a nearby train entered into the city. Sounds of gunshots rang out among other weaponry. Jet smiled nervously knowing that only jiva enchanted weapons could hurt him as a dragon spirited. This was a crucial advantage in the city as the population was largely non magical. Suddenly Jet stopped as the air grew strangely cold. He was about twenty feet from entering the city.
Whzzzt! He dodged to the left as a glowing silver bullet whizzed by.
"What's the big idea?" Jet roared at someone who stood before him holding a silver handgun. He wore a hooded silver cloak and black shoes. He flipped the hood backwards to reveal a boy about the same age as him with silver hair and silver eyes.
"My name is Kilias. The big idea is that I saw you training and I want to eliminate you before the tournament begins!" Kilias said.
Jet jumped in shock.
"You have a dragon spirit?" Jet asked.
Kilias nodded.
"Yes. A silver dragon named Boris. Normally I would warn you of the rivalry between the new generation leviathan and of the jiva parasites that are spawning however we're not allies!" Kilias said.
Jet looked aghast.
"Then why mention them?" He stated.
Kilias gasped.
"Huh? I panicked, but no matter prepare to meet your end!" He said.
Jet dodged again as Kilias released a flurry of bullets.
He let out a cry as one tapped his shoulder tearing his shirt and scarring his skin. Blood then began to leak out.
It's Jiva enchanted! Jet thought to himself.
"Hold on! We don't need to fight. Actually I'm interested in the fact that you have a spirit. Maybe we could be colleagues" Jet said.
"Humph. You're weak. Plus I haven't even put Boris into my weapon yet. Right now I'm just focusing my Jiva" Kilias said.
Jet pouted.
"Well if you really want to fight, I think you should meet my ally Os!" He said.
Jet then held up his sword and pointed it at Kilias. "Os take form!" Jet shouted.
The air trembled as Os emerged from a glowing ball of light to the right of Jet. The dragon roared ferociously as it stood on its hind legs. Kilias smiled. "Form up Boris! Show him your might!" Kilias said. The sound of another dragon this one much stronger bellowing filled the air shaking Jet and Os. Jet covered his ears. After the roaring stopped, Jet stood up straight. He then made eye contact with Kilias. "Os, metamorph!" Jet said as Os began to take blade form.
"Boris metamorph!" said Kilias as Boris merged with the gun turning it into a much larger dragon cannon.
Jet gasped.
"Is your Jiva more developed than mine?" He asked.
Kilias smirked.
"Giant Silver Bullet!"
Kilias said.
Jet held up his sword in a defensive stance.
He then sliced the bullet into two pieces.
Jet smiled.
Kilias smirked.
Jet's eyes shifted to the split bullet.
"Detonate!" Kilias said.
Boom! "Aaagh!"
A huge explosion occurred sending dust and debris into the air as Jet was sent flying. Thud! He landed on the ground on his back. His sword was flipping in the air. It then landed right beside the right side of his head in close proximity. The injured Jet gasped.
Kilias showed his teeth.
"You would have never survived the tournament anyway!" He said.
The sound of traffic could be heard in the busy city. Jet began to think about what he had gotten himself into as he laid upon the itchy grass. He sighed then rolled over to his side.
I can't lose my first actual match, he thought.
