Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: Chakra

"Alright, class.

Let's begin today's first lesson.

Last term, we focused primarily on the history of the Hidden Leaf Village and the Third Hokage's Will of Fire. Since Hinami wasn't with us then, I expect you to catch up on your reading at home.

Today's topic is: The Chakra Core and the Three Shinobi Archetypes. Get your pens ready; there are many key points here that will appear on the exam! We will also be addressing a common and significant misconception that you must master."

The screech of chalk against the blackboard made Hinami feel like she had been thrust back into her high school entrance exams. A familiar wave of academic anxiety washed over her.

However, the large characters spelling out CHAKRA CORE on the board quickly pulled her back to reality.

"Chakra is composed of—"

"Hinami, have you eaten yet?" Naruto's whisper cut through Iruka's lecture, making Hinami instinctively knit her brows.

The ancient Kaguya clan still adhered to the traditional teaching philosophies of the Warring States period: Refine chakra, practice the Clan War Dance, and master the art of killing. While her combat prowess had advanced rapidly under such brutal tutelage, her theoretical knowledge of shinobi mechanics was sorely lacking.

Especially in this "realistic" version of the ninja world. Many things that seemed vague or were glossed over in the manga of her previous life were essential subjects of study here.

She had skimmed her textbooks the night before and found that the first-year curriculum was quite shallow, avoiding the deeper mechanics she craved. Might Guy, her "father," was a dead-last in academics himself. This classroom was currently her only window into the true logic of this world.

"Naruto, you need to listen to the lecture," Hinami advised, maintaining her patience.

"Yeah, okay!" Naruto chirped.

A few minutes later, however, he was clearly bored again. He gripped his ballpoint pen, spinning it incessantly. Every few seconds, it would clatter onto the desk.

Hinami let out a soft sigh.

No gain without sacrifice. Plotting to siphon someone's Nine-Tails chakra evidently came with a price. Fine, I'll treat this as paying the bill in advance for a future all-you-can-eat buffet.

"Naruto-kun."

"Hmm?" Naruto looked up, his eyes bright with excitement.

"Could you do me a favor?" Hinami tilted her head toward him, her voice low and soft.

The morning sun filtered through the window, casting a golden veil over her pale profile. The elegant bridge of her nose cast a delicate shadow, making her look exceptionally graceful.

"N-No problem!" Naruto hadn't even processed what she asked; he was simply mesmerized by the movement of her pink lips and agreed in a daze.

Screech, screech!

Iruka had already filled a quarter of the massive blackboard.

"As we all know, chakra is forged from the fusion of spiritual energy and physical energy. The key to synthesizing these two is the Chakra Core located within the heart. Some call it the 'Chakra Seed.'"

Iruka paused, allowing the students time to digest the information before continuing.

"During the refinement process, the Chakra Core continuously consumes spiritual and physical energy to grow. In return, it provides the shinobi with usable chakra. It is like a seed that sprouts, grows, and matures under our care.

Since every person possesses a unique soul and body, their spiritual and physical energies differ. Consequently, no two Chakra Cores are identical, leading to subtle variations in everyone's chakra. A shinobi's entire power is hidden within this core..."

Hinami listened intently. Iruka's description of the Chakra Core felt hauntingly familiar.

Isn't this just a miniature God Tree? The Otsutsuki planted God Trees to devour natural energy and produce chakra fruit. The ninja's Chakra Core devoured human energy to produce chakra. The process was nearly identical.

Furthermore, the existence of a "Core" explained why Orochimaru couldn't simply clone Bloodline Limit users in mass quantities through gene-splicing alone. The secret lay in the abnormal Chakra Core. It wasn't just about DNA; the core inherited by a child was a "fruit" condensed from the matured cores of the parents, not a mere copy of a genetic map.

Everyone's ability to condense these fruits was limited, explaining why Bloodline Limits didn't occur on a massive scale.

Hinami activated her Byakugan. She focused her gaze on the core within her own heart. The ethereal sphere glowed with a deep, pulsating blue hue.

Originally, her chakra wasn't this color. Ever since she had consumed a small fragment of the Three-Tails' chakra, her own chakra—and the core itself—had undergone a mutation.

"It is possible for a Chakra Core to be altered by external chakra sources, and an altered core will then give birth to an entirely new type of chakra!" Iruka announced as he finished the last line on the board.

He tossed the chalk onto the desk and exhaled, turning back to face the class.

Most of the students were already slumped over or nodding off. Iruka's lip twitched. Pure theory was dry and tedious; even adults found it boring, let alone restless children.

He looked at the transfer student, Hinami. She sat there, blindfolded and motionless. He couldn't tell if she was listening intently or sleeping with her eyes open. He had slowed his speech specifically so she could follow along.

Then, his gaze swept to Naruto, sitting beside her. His eyes widened in disbelief.

Naruto Uzumaki—the class's most academic-averse student—was actually hunched over his notebook, scribbling furiously.

What is happening?

"Cha... kra... core..." Naruto wrote, his messy handwriting sprawling across the clean pages.

Hinami was blind. He had promised her he would record the lecture so she could review it later. Naruto Uzumaki always kept his word. No matter how exhausting it was, he would honor his promise.

Ugh... Naruto scrunched up his face, struggling to funnel the complex information into his brain while copying. This is so boring!

Iruka suppressed his shock and clapped his hands against the board to wake the sleepers.

"Wake up! We are getting to the part that will be on the exam. Factors affecting chakra volume and the resulting shinobi classifications. This isn't in your textbooks, so listen closely. This will be on the final."

Hinami refocused, pulling her attention away from her own heart. Iruka's expression turned somber as he continued.

"Remember this: Chakra volume is linked directly to life force. The stronger the life force, the more vigorous the energy produced by the body and soul. This allows the core to grow faster and produce more chakra.

In other words, a person's maximum chakra potential is determined the moment they are born.

It cannot be changed!"
