Cherreads

Chapter 169 - 169: Talent Ability: Five Brains Seven Hearts

Kasugai Crow Kaname shook its head. "Lord Kyojuro is already on his way. I need to know exactly what happened here."

"Everything started when…" Murata quickly recounted the entire sequence of events without leaving anything out.

"Muzan actually showed up? Caw! And he got chased down by Ivan?!" Kaname could hardly believe its own ears. Its beak hung open like it could fit a whole cherry inside. "I didn't mishear that, right? He actually went after Muzan Kibutsuji?"

Seeing the serious look on Murata's face, Kaname finally understood how bad things were.

"I have to warn Lord Kyojuro right now!"

No time to waste. Kaname shot out the window to intercept Kyojuro Rengoku.

...

By now, Muzan was completely enraged by Ivan.

He crossed his arms and tore his black suit jacket to shreds in one motion. As the fabric scraps fluttered down, a perfectly sculpted, powerful upper body was laid bare.

"I'm going to use your life to make up for my weakness!" Muzan raised both arms. His mouth split all the way to his ears, just like Ivan's had.

"You want my life? Heh. Go ahead and try."

Ivan grinned, rows of dense, razor-sharp fangs making the sight downright terrifying.

He was actually curious to see how this guy planned to kill him when he couldn't even break his defense.

"Arrogant bastard. You're going to pay for this." Muzan's gaze turned ice-cold. Right after he spoke, his right arm twisted and deformed at high speed. Boom! It swelled rapidly until it became a massive, eyeless serpent made entirely of clumped blood. The snake reeked of thick bloodlust and lunged forward, jaws wide open like it wanted to swallow Ivan whole.

The serpent was fast. It closed the distance in the blink of an eye.

But Ivan was faster. Before the snake could swallow him, he swung his right hand, now sharpened into a blade, and drove it straight into the serpent's head. With a loud rip, the blade sliced clean through the blood-flesh construct, cutting it in half from head to tail.

Sharp sword energy exploded outward from Ivan's hand.

Muzan barely dodged in time.

Otherwise it wouldn't have been just his right arm that got severed. Half his body would've gone with it.

"You've really pissed me off now." Muzan clenched his teeth. Thick, worm-like veins bulged along his neck. As he spoke, the bisected blood serpent on the ground suddenly sprouted tiny fleshy tendrils. They twisted and tangled together until the two halves fused back into one.

Boom!!

The serpent suddenly lunged again. Before Ivan could react, it swallowed his entire left arm in one bite. In an instant, the highly corrosive blood inside the serpent started burning his arm. The sensation was only mild for him, but any normal human or regular demon would've had their whole arm melted away by now.

"Hmph!" Ivan snorted angrily. Countless bone spikes erupted from his left arm and tore straight through the serpent's outer layer. Not only that, his left arm twisted and spread open. Thorn-like bone spikes grew wildly in every direction until they completely exploded the blood-and-flesh serpent from the inside.

In the next second, a pair of pitch-black wings made of bone spikes appeared right in front of Muzan. The wings had a rocky texture and were covered in chunks of torn flesh.

Haa! Ivan slowly spread the three-meter-long burning wings.

As the surface of the wings gradually turned red, the temperature around them rose sharply.

"You like regenerating? Then I'll turn every single one of your cells to ash." The smile on Ivan's face grew wider. He had just seen the successful analysis notification.

[Talent Ability: Five Brains Seven Hearts]

[Analysis Condition: Destroy one heart and one brain]

[After fusion, the player's body structure will change. Without affecting normal bodily functions, the player will possess five brains and seven hearts. The five brains will greatly increase the player's reaction speed. Even if one or several brains are destroyed, the player's actions and thinking will remain unaffected.

The seven hearts will provide the player with far greater stamina. At the same time, the player's explosive power will also be enhanced.]

Perfect! What a goddamn perfect ability!

Ivan could barely contain his excitement. Pure ecstasy filled his eyes. This talent was going to be insanely useful for him. Both the five brains and the seven hearts meant something huge. With five brains, even if someone chopped his head off, he could still keep going.

That meant he no longer had any fatal weak points.

Unless someone could destroy all five of his brains at the exact same time, killing him was going to be extremely difficult.

The seven hearts weren't small either. Ivan didn't even want to imagine what would happen if all seven heart engines ran at maximum frequency at once. Would his body even be able to handle that kind of insane boost? Probably not, he guessed.

One heart engine he could still manage. Two was probably his current limit.

Three and he figured he'd explode on the spot.

The only way to fix that problem was to keep strengthening his body. He guessed that someone with Homelander's level of physique could probably handle three heart engines. Any more than that and it would be pushing it.

Right now, Muzan could feel every cell he had split off screaming in agony.

No matter how fast his cells regenerated, they couldn't keep up with the rate they were being destroyed. The temperature coming off Ivan's wings was hotter than lava. Flesh and blood couldn't survive it. Even steel would melt.

How is this possible? There's actually a second way to kill me in this world!

Muzan stood frozen in place. The fear that had been sealed away inside him for centuries was being dragged back to the surface. And this time, the one waking it up wasn't Yoriichi Tsugikuni. It wasn't Sun Breathing. It wasn't even the sun.

It was this near-perfect "kindred" standing right in front of him.

Why? Why was Ivan more perfect than him?

He was supposed to be the one closest to perfection.

Unfortunately, no one was going to answer Muzan's questions.

Run!

Cold sweat poured down Muzan's face. His eyes were full of fear and confusion. Countless barbed tentacles burst out of his back, each one ending in a sharp bone spike. Right now, his only plan was to stall. Stall until the Upper Ranks arrived to cover his escape.

He still had one last card left.

The same move he used against Yoriichi Tsugikuni back then. Self-division. Blow his own body apart into countless pieces. As long as even one fragment survived, his ridiculous regeneration would bring him back.

But that was his absolute last resort. He would never use it unless he was completely cornered.

The backlash was too severe. Even if he managed to revive, it would take a very long time, and he would be left with permanent, irreparable damage inside his body.
