Chapter 199 - About to Wake Up

Chapter 199: About to Wake Up

Charlotte offered a few final words of advice, and seeing that Ran had no more questions, she ended the call.

After the line went dead, the group exchanged glances, a thoughtful silence settling over them.

Sonoko was the first to break it, turning her attention to Eisuke Hondou. "So, Eiyu, what do you think? Want to go get your blood type rechecked? Beika West Hospital is right nearby, so it won't take long."

Ran nodded in earnest agreement. "She's right. That way, we can know for sure if Miss Mizunashi is really your sister."

Gazing at their concerned faces, Eisuke blinked, his expression a little lost. He gave a slow, almost dazed nod.

"Yeah," he murmured, his voice soft. "I really should go check. To be honest, I was so young when my sister left... I can't be certain if I had a bone marrow transplant back then or not."

Just moments ago, upon learning Mizunashi Rena's blood type, he had resigned himself to the fact that she couldn't possibly be his sister. He had even started to suspect she might be the one responsible for his sister's death. But now, after hearing that a person's blood type could change, a fragile sliver of hope had taken root in his heart.

'Maybe... maybe my blood type really did change,'he thought.'Maybe Mizunashi Rena really is my sister...'

As long as there was even the faintest possibility of finding her, Eisuke wasn't willing to give up. He decisively agreed to go to the hospital for another test.

After finishing their meal, Sonoko and Ran accompanied him back to Beika West Hospital, where he had his blood drawn for analysis.

The results would take over an hour. While they waited, Conan managed to find an excuse to slip away, pulling out his phone to update Jodie on the latest developments.

"Oh~, so this boy has a sister who might very well be Mizunashi Rena..." Jodie sighed on the other end of the line, the sound faint and tinny.

"Yes," Conan replied, keeping his voice low. "We're having his blood type tested now. I'll let you know the results as soon as they're out." He paused, adding, "He also knows that Mizunashi Rena was seriously injured and hospitalized. He's been checking every major hospital trying to find her. It's possible he could actually stumble upon the right one."

Hearing this, Jodie didn't seem overly concerned. "It's fine," she said calmly. "Only a handful of specific doctors and nurses know she's being treated here. He won't find anything."

They spoke for a few more minutes. Finally, Jodie asked Conan to message her with the results and then hung up.

Putting her phone away, Jodie stood in the quiet hallway, her mind racing. She hadn't anticipated the complication of Mizunashi Rena having a younger brother. Now, everything depended on the results from Conan's side. That would determine their next move.

'If this is true,'she mused,'then there's a chance Mizunashi Rena is also an undercover agent. That would make things... troublesome.'

She walked back towards the ward where the comatose woman was being held. As expected, she found Shuichi Akai leaning against the wall just outside the door. His gaze was distant, fixed on the figure lying on the bed within, completely lost in thought.

Jodie entered the room, closing the door softly behind her. She relayed the news she had just received from the boy.

True to form, Shuichi Akai remained silent after hearing her report, though his brow furrowed almost imperceptibly.

Just as Jodie was about to say something more, a sharp knock sounded at the door.

"Come in," Jodie called out, swallowing the words that had been on the tip of her tongue.

The person who entered was Baizhu, the doctor who had been overseeing Mizunashi Rena's treatment.

He gave a polite nod to Jodie and Shuichi before walking to the bedside to begin his routine check-up.

After a thorough examination, Jodie stepped forward, her expression laced with concern. "Dr. Baizhu, how is she? When will the patient wake up?"

Baizhu straightened up, turning to face her with a placid, reassuring smile. "Don't worry. The patient's recovery is progressing smoothly. I'm confident she will wake up within seven days."

"That's good." A long, slow breath escaped Jodie's lips, the tension draining from her shoulders. She had started to fear that Mizunashi Rena might never regain consciousness. If that had happened, their entire operation would have been for nothing—a complete and utter failure.

Fortunately, she was going to wake up. It seemed that in seven days, at the latest, they would finally be able to learn more about the Organization directly from her.

After giving a few more instructions, Baizhu excused himself and returned to his office. He sat at his desk for a moment, thinking, before activating a private channel in his mind to contact Wanderer. He informed him that Mizunashi Rena would awaken in three days at the most, and instructed him to pass the message along to Cointreau. The news of her location had already been relayed some time ago.

Receiving the mental message, Wanderer clicked his tongue in annoyance, his brow creasing. 'Do they really think I'm just some errand boy?'

Despite his grumbling, he didn't waste any time. With an expression of deep irritation still etched on his face, he set off to find Cointreau.

He located her in a quiet study. Seeing that she was alone, Wanderer relayed Baizhu's message in a single, clipped sentence, then immediately turned to leave.

"Wait a moment," Cointreau's voice called out, stopping him in his tracks.

Wanderer paused, turning back to look at her, his eyes silently urging her to be quick about it.

Cointreau seemed unbothered by his impolite demeanor; she was, frankly, used to it. By his standards, this was practically a pleasant interaction. She produced a sleek, modern-looking watch, holding it out in the palm of her hand.

"This is the latest terminal developed by the Organization," she explained. "Its information processing and protection functions have been significantly upgraded. Everyone involved in this operation regarding Kir is required to wear one. It will help Gin's task assignments and also serve as a good opportunity to test its performance in a live combat scenario."

After speaking, she extended her hand toward him again, a clear gesture for him to take it.

Wanderer's gaze flickered to Cointreau's own left wrist, and sure enough, he saw a similar watch already fastened there.

Without refusing, but muttering, "How troublesome," he took the device, clipped it onto his left wrist, and turned to leave once more. This time, Cointreau didn't stop him.

Meanwhile, back at Beika West Hospital, more than an hour had passed. Eisuke Hondou's blood test report was finally ready.

An air of nervous anticipation filled the waiting area as everyone watched him take the folded paper and slowly open it.

Sonoko waited, her patience wearing thin as Eisuke simply stared at the report, his face blank and unreadable. "Eiyu, at least say something!" she finally burst out. "What's the result? We've all been waiting with you for ages; it's not too much to ask you to tell us."

Eisuke finally lifted his head, his gaze shifting from the paper to Sonoko. His expression was wooden as he stammered, "The blood type is... it's Type AB."

Ran's voice rose in pleasant surprise. "Then that means Miss Mizunashi really could be your sister, Eiyu!"

Eisuke nodded blankly, his mind reeling.

The same blood type. Could Mizunashi Rena truly be his sister?

He still found it hard to believe. A new resolve hardened within him. He had to find her. He had to see her with his own eyes and confirm the truth for himself.
