Chapter 58 - Chapter 57: The Collateral Damage

​The playground that Asher built for him when we arrived, decorated with cool beautiful mixed colours, animals and trees usually feel so peaceful. But tonight, it was a courtroom. Asher and I were the litigants, and the air between us was charged with a decade's worth of unspoken accusations.

​But then, a small sound broke the tension—a soft, wet sniffle from the rug.

​"Why are your faces so angry?"

​The question was like a bucket of ice water poured over my head. I looked down, and my heart shattered. Leo was sitting amidst his fleet of toy cars, but he wasn't playing. His small chest was heaving, and his big blue eyes—so hauntingly like the man standing beside me—were swimming in tears.

​"Oh, baby..." I dropped to my knees, my knees hitting the hardwood with a dull thud. "We aren't angry. We're just... tired. It's been a long day at the hospital."
