Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: Tobirama — A Decision That Defies My Ancestors

The next morning.

Konoha — Tobirama's residence, guest room.

Sunlight slipped through the gaps in the curtains, falling gently across the soft, spacious bed.

Uchiha Hikari's eyelashes trembled as she slowly opened her eyes.

What greeted her was no longer a dark, damp cave, nor cold iron chains or sealing arrays.

Instead, there was a spotless white ceiling, an elegant crystal chandelier, and the faint scent of lavender lingering in the air.

"This is…?"

Hikari sat up abruptly, her thoughts briefly going blank.

The next instant, memories surged back—being unsealed, struck unconscious, and taken away by that man.

"Uchiha… Tobirama!"

She stiffened instantly, shrinking toward the corner of the bed, arms crossed protectively over her chest. Her Mangekyō Sharingan, newly restored to clarity, locked onto the corner of the room.

There, Uchiha Tobirama sat on the sofa, holding a teacup, lazily skimming a newspaper.

Morning light fell across his short silver hair, outlining it with a soft golden sheen.

He showed not the slightest hint of hostility. Instead, he radiated a calm, composed authority.

"You're awake?"

Tobirama lowered the newspaper and glanced at her.

"Your sleeping habits are terrible. You kicked the blanket onto the floor."

"You… what do you want?"

Hikari's voice was tight with tension. "Where is this? Why am I not locked up? Aren't you afraid I'll kill you?"

In her understanding of the world, a weapon that wasn't chained was abnormal.

"Kill me?"

Tobirama laughed lightly, as if he'd heard something amusing.

"In your current state? You wouldn't even be able to scratch me."

"Enough with the paranoia. I already told you—I saved you. I'm not interested in abusing children."

He pointed to the table, where a hot breakfast and a set of brand-new clothes had been laid out.

"Go wash up. Eat. Change your clothes."

"After that, come out with me."

"Go… out?" Hikari froze. "Where?"

"To see the world outside your cage."

Tobirama stood, straightened his collar, and spoke in a tone that brooked no argument.

"Don't keep me waiting. I dislike dawdling."

With that, he turned and left the room without a backward glance—completely unconcerned that she might try to escape.

Or rather, in Konoha, escape simply wasn't an option.

Hikari stared blankly at the food on the table.

Milk. Sandwiches. Fried eggs.

Warm. Fragrant.

Her stomach betrayed her with a low growl.

"Is this… how normal people live?"

She hesitated for a long time before finally picking up a sandwich.

If she couldn't win and couldn't run… she might as well eat first.

Half an hour later.

Konoha's bustling commercial street.

Hikari had changed into a white dress prepared by Pakura at Tobirama's request. It suited her delicate yet slightly aloof temperament perfectly.

Even so, she walked half a step behind Tobirama, like a startled rabbit, eyes darting around in constant vigilance.

She was searching for danger.

In her memories, stepping outside always meant bloodshed.

Yet—

"Good morning, Lord Tobirama!"

"Hokage-sama! Freshly steamed buns—please have one!"

"Thank you for abolishing the Daimyō system! Life's so much better now!"

Vendors, patrolling shinobi, even children playing by the roadside greeted Tobirama with smiles filled with genuine respect.

Those looks weren't fear.

They were admiration—toward a protector.

"Hokage… sama?"

Hikari murmured, stunned.

She saw Uchiha clan members wearing the fan crest chatting and laughing alongside shinobi from other clans.

No barriers. No hatred.

Even civilians greeted Uchiha and Anbu openly, without fear.

"This… how is this possible…?"

Her worldview began to crack.

"Wasn't the Uchiha supposed to be cursed? Feared and exploited by everyone?"

"Then why… are they smiling?"

"Do you see it?"

Tobirama stopped, casually taking a skewer of three-colored dango from a nearby stall and handing it to her.

"This is the world I built."

"Here, the Uchiha are not weapons."

"We are wielders of the blade—and guardians."

"No one uses us."

"And no one dares look at us that way."

Hikari accepted the dango, staring silently at his back.

In that moment, his figure seemed impossibly tall.

He hadn't lied.

That hellish past had truly ended.

"Eat," Tobirama said, noticing her daze, reaching out to pat her head.

"It's sweet. You'll like it."

She took a bite.

Soft. Chewy. Sweet.

The warmth spread from her tongue straight to her heart, making her eyes sting.

"Is this… what freedom tastes like?"

As they walked, the tension slowly drained from her body.

She began to look around with genuine curiosity.

Theaters, accessory shops, children playing with ninja-tool toys—everything was new.

She stopped at a mask stall and lifted a fox mask to her face.

"Does it look good?"

The words slipped out before she realized it, and her face immediately flushed.

"It's fine," Tobirama said calmly, paying for it.

"But your face looks better than the mask."

Her heart skipped.

This man… was always this direct?

Dusk.

Atop the Hokage Rock.

The setting sun bathed Konoha in gold and crimson.

Standing atop the carved faces of past Hokage, Tobirama and Hikari looked out over the village.

Smoke rose from kitchens. Lamps lit one by one.

Peace.

The evening breeze stirred Hikari's silver-black hair as she gazed down, her eyes soft and distant.

"It's beautiful…"

Her voice trembled slightly.

"No blood. No screams. Everyone can smile…"

"I never… even dared to dream of something like this."

She turned to Tobirama.

The last traces of vigilance vanished from her eyes, replaced by guilt and gratitude.

She bowed deeply.

"I'm sorry."

"For attacking you yesterday."

"I thought you were like them… trying to use me."

"I was wrong. You're… a good person."

"A good person?"

Tobirama raised an eyebrow.

"That's a first."

Leaning against the railing, he looked at her calmly.

"I'm not a good person."

"I've killed more people than you could imagine."

"But I'm not the kind of scum who abuses a child."

He extended his hand.

"Let's start over."

"I'm Uchiha Tobirama."

"And you? What's your name?"

Hikari froze.

Her gaze dimmed.

She lowered her head, fingers twisting the hem of her dress.

"I… don't have one."

"They called me Yachihoko. Or just a weapon."

"Some called me… Nanashi."

Someone unworthy of a name.

That was her life.

"Nanashi…"

Tobirama frowned.

"That's a terrible name."

"If you're staying by my side, you need a real one."

He stepped closer, lifting her chin gently so she had to meet his eyes.

"From today onward, forget Nanashi."

"Your name is Uchiha Hikari."

"Hikari…?"

Her eyes widened.

"That's right."

A rare gentleness curved Tobirama's lips.

"You lived in darkness, treated as a tool."

"But from now on, you're free."

"I want you to live like this sunset."

"Like the lights of Konoha."

"Live in the light—"

"and become the brightest light of the Uchiha."

"Uchiha… Hikari…"

She whispered the name again and again.

Hikari.

So warm.

She looked at the man who had torn her from hell and given her a future.

Her heart pounded uncontrollably.

That sound—was love.

Centuries of frozen despair melted away in an instant.

"Yes!"

She nodded hard, tears slipping down her cheeks as a smile brighter than the sunset bloomed.

"My name is Uchiha Hikari!"

"I am… Lord Tobirama's light!"

Tobirama smiled in satisfaction.

Conquest progress: complete.

The wildcat of the Sengoku era had finally become a gentle house cat.

"Come on, Hikari."

He took her hand naturally.

"Let's go home."

"I'll have Pakura prepare something nice tonight."

"To celebrate your new life."

Hikari looked at their joined hands, cheeks warm—but she didn't pull away.

Instead, she held on tightly.

A warmth she never wanted to lose.

"…Okay."

"Let's go home."
