Chapter 4 - the first step closer.

Veronica also took in his appearance.

She smiled softly—just for show, to convince everyone that it wasn't a forced marriage. But for a brief second, the smile felt almost real.

Alex's mind drifted to Yuna… but he snapped back when the priest began asking basic questions.

They stood beside each other like strangers.

"I do."

"I do."

Their answers were flat, emotionless. Alex avoided eye contact completely, his face unreadable.

Veronica answered calmly, though a faint hurt lingered beneath her expression.

Rings were exchanged—nothing more than a formal procedure.

Applause filled the hall, but it felt hollow… empty.

After the ceremony, Alex led Veronica toward her room.

A large mansion hallway stretched ahead as he opened the door to a spacious room with a king-sized bed.

Veronica stepped inside and looked around before glancing at him.

"Thanks for showing me my room," she said softly.

Alex didn't look at her. His hands were in his pockets, expression cold.

"No problem. From now on, this is your room. My room is on the other side."

He paused briefly.

"If you need anything, ask my assistant. He'll handle it."

Veronica nodded quietly.

"Oh… yeah. I'll ask him."

Alex finally glanced at her for a brief second, then turned away and left.

Veronica watched his retreating back and sighed.

She dropped onto the bed, lying back with a slightly annoyed expression.

"Ugh… why is he like a robot?" she muttered. "He can't even look at me. Am I invisible or something?"

She paused, then frowned slightly.

"What kind of loyal man is he… for someone else?"

Then she blinked.

"I wonder who that girl is… that he loves so much."

Outside the room, Alex had just walked past when he heard her words.

He stopped for a moment.

A faint sigh escaped him… then he continued walking and entered his room.

He loosened his tie and threw it onto the bed.

After the wedding, he changed into a black shirt and comfortable pants.

He lay down on his bed and murmured to himself,

"Strange girl…"

Then he picked up his phone and messaged Yuna.

Meanwhile, Veronica had changed into a loose nightdress—comfortable shirt and pants.

She lay on her bed, scrolling through her phone, but her thoughts kept drifting back to Alex.

His cold expression. His distance. His silence.

She put her phone down and stared at the ceiling.

"I still can't believe it…" she whispered. "I'm married… and yet it feels so empty."

She sighed.

"Ugh… stop thinking about him, Veronica. Sleep."

Slowly, she drifted off.

The moonlight slipped through the windows, casting a quiet glow over the mansion.

A peaceful night… but not truly peaceful.

The next morning, both of them woke up early.

Alex was already busy with business work in his room.

Veronica, on the other hand, was free and wandering around the mansion.

When she passed by Alex's closed door, an idea formed in her mind.

A small, cute smile appeared on her face.

"Maybe… I should try talking to him," she thought.

She went downstairs and entered the kitchen, making coffee with a bright, hopeful smile.

Not for herself.

But for him.

"If I do this… maybe we'll start talking," she whispered.

When the coffee was ready, she carefully carried it upstairs toward Alex's room.

The door was slightly open.

She didn't bother knocking.

She gently pushed it open and said softly,

"Hey…"
