Chapter 58 -  “Vermilion City”

Vermilion City

"The Beautiful Harbor at Sunset."

A brief line of introduction appeared on the screen, then quietly faded away.

The setting sun painted the harbor city in golden light. Aside from the iconic Vermilion Gym, the most eye-catching sight was the enormous luxury cruise ship docked at the harbor—

the S.S. Anne.

The two followed the main road toward the port. But as they turned a corner, they unexpectedly spotted Green fishing on the nearby beach.

Even through the screen, Rei Akagi and Red could feel the heavy atmosphere around him.

He hadn't even blanked a catch…

The fish basket beside him was practically overflowing.

Rei Akagi muttered to himself and moved Rei closer to take a look.

Then he instantly understood.

Magikarp.

Well… that explains it.

A rough count suggested Green had already fished up over twenty of them.

No wonder he hadn't said a word the entire time.

Red had learned his lesson this time. He quietly stood aside, trying to make himself as invisible as possible.

Rei Akagi glanced at the old, worn-out fishing rod in Green's hands. After thinking for a moment, he controlled Rei to step forward and initiate a trade.

Rei sent a trade request to Green.

Super Rod – Trade Price: ¥10,000

Green accepted the offer.

Green paid ¥10,000 and received the Super Rod.

The trade was conducted in silence—

And ended just as quietly.

Green immediately swapped to the new fishing rod.

Meanwhile, Rei returned to Red's side as they prepared to continue toward the harbor.

Rei Akagi took the opportunity to glance at the chat.

"Green: Silence is tonight's Vermilion Harbor."

"That's the legendary Green for you! Look at those Magikarp glowing red with vitality—definitely top-tier talent!"

"If you want to laugh, just laugh. Don't beat around the bush."

"There's a trading system too? Selling a fishing rod to the legendary Green for 10,000 and he actually bought it—fishermen really are easy to make money from."

"Super Rod? What's the difference compared to the old rod sold in shops for 500?"

"The trading system works with friends and certain NPCs."

Rei Akagi explained at the right moment.

"Some special collectibles can be sold to specific NPCs for a higher price than shops offer. Sometimes you even get additional surprises."

He paused briefly before continuing.

"As for the difference between fishing rods…"

"The better the rod, the higher the chance of catching rare Pokémon."

"With a good rod, you might even fish up a Dratini in ordinary waters—something normally only found at special fishing spots."

Amid a barrage of chat messages shouting "You sold it too cheap!" and "Huge loss!", Rei and Red arrived at the harbor and began searching for the boarding entrance to the S.S. Anne.

Suddenly—

An elderly gentleman in a sharp suit hurried over.

Without saying a word, he grabbed both Rei and Red and dragged them into a small, inconspicuous harbor house nearby.

Inside, the place was lively.

All kinds of people and Pokémon were chatting enthusiastically.

Only then did the gentleman release them, smiling warmly.

"Gentleman: Welcome to the Pokémon Fan Club that I run!"

"Gentleman: I raise more than 100 Pokémon! Once I start talking about them, I just can't stop! Truly!"

"Gentleman: So… are you here to listen to my Pokémon stories?"

"Oh, it's the Fan Club guy."

Red's voice carried a hint of nostalgia.

"Hehe, I remember I was an honorary member here."

The conversation continued.

"Gentleman: My favorite Pokémon is Rapidash… When I hug it… when I sleep beside it… it feels warm… comforting… charming…"

"Gentleman: My second favorite Pokémon is Abra… but it disappeared a month ago… many people in the club have had similar things happen… I miss it very much…"

"Gentleman: Oh my! Look at the time! I've kept you here far too long! Thank you for listening to me!"

The gentleman suddenly turned toward a bookshelf.

"Gentleman: Vice President! Come greet our new friends!"

From beside the bookshelf, a refined figure in a white lab coat turned around and walked over with a gentle smile.

"Researcher Rei: Long time no see, boys! Have you joined the Pokémon Fan Club too? Here—take these. They should be useful."

Rei and Red received the Bike Voucher and the Poké Flute!

The Bike Voucher and Poké Flute were placed in the Key Items Pocket.

"Researcher Rei: The Poké Flute can wake up sleeping Pokémon. As for this voucher…"

He leaned closer and whispered:

"It's worth one million Poké Dollars."

"Alright—continue your adventure."

After saying that, he returned to the bookshelf and resumed reading as if nothing had happened.

"Bike Voucher? Worth a million? That's from the Cerulean City scam bike shop!"

"The Poké Flute wakes sleeping Pokémon? That's an insanely strong battle item!"

"Who exactly is this handsome researcher? Every time he appears he gives gifts—now even a million-value voucher!"

"Also… sleeping with a Rapidash? Wouldn't that burn you alive?"

As the chat scrolled rapidly—

Rei and Red stepped outside into the open area.

Red was still staring at the voucher in his bag, debating whether to return to Cerulean City.

Meanwhile, Rei Akagi had already made a phone call.

Moments later—

ROOOOOAR—

The thunderous sound of engines echoed from the sky.

A sleek, expensive futuristic transport aircraft hovered above them.

The cargo bay opened vertically and fast-rope lines dropped down.

A figure slid down first and landed smoothly.

It was the Cerulean City Bike Shop owner.

With a stylish snap of his fingers, two metal cargo crates were lowered from the aircraft and set gently on the ground.

Hiss—

The pressure seals released.

The doors opened.

Inside were two sleek, futuristic bicycles, their metallic frames gleaming under the sunset.

"Bike Shop Owner: Hello, esteemed customers! Your premium rides have been safely delivered! Allow me to briefly introduce their features!"

"Bike Shop Owner: These are top-tier multifunctional tech bicycles! Mountain climbing, water traversal—no problem!"

"Bike Shop Owner: Activate the turbo boost when necessary to gain a burst of speed!"

"Bike Shop Owner: Best of all—deploy the rear wings and you can achieve safe gliding after a high-speed dash. Enjoy the beauty of the sky!"

"Oh—and don't forget to leave a five-star review!"

After finishing his explanation, the shop owner grabbed the rope.

The aircraft engines roared to life again and lifted him back into the sky.

Red stared at the futuristic bicycle in front of him.

He was completely stunned.

Meanwhile, Rei Akagi controlled Rei to approach the pure white bicycle and mount it.

Instantly—

Countless white particles surged from the bike, spreading across Bai's body like living metal.

In the blink of an eye, a pure white cycling combat suit, decorated with flowing golden patterns, formed around him—

It looked like something straight out of transforming hero.

Combined with the futuristic bicycle, the overall effect was unbelievably cool.

"HOLY—!!!"

Red's shout blasted through the communicator.

Snapping out of his daze, he hurriedly controlled Red to mount the other bike.

Orange-red particles burst out and wrapped around him as well—

But the resulting armor was completely different.

The suit was filled with Charizard-inspired elements—dragon-scale patterns and even a glowing tail effect.

The livestream chat exploded instantly.

"Particle transformation!!! This is insanely cool!!!"

"Mountain climbing? Sea crossing? Gliding? And transformation? You call this a bicycle?!"

"They used an air transport plane just to deliver bikes??? That's the luxury treatment of a million-value item!"

"Sorry boss! I spoke too loudly before! That million… might actually be worth it!"

"Teacher Salted Fish's white suit looks amazing! Which Pokémon inspired it? Red's Charizard armor is awesome too!"
