Chapter 1 - Unnamed

"The Last Promise of the Rain"

The rain had always been a silent witness to her pain.

Every evening, when the sky turned gray and the wind whispered through the broken windows, Elara would sit by the old wooden chair, holding a faded letter close to her heart. The ink had almost disappeared, but the words were engraved deep within her soul.

"I will come back. Wait for me."

Those were the last words Adrian had written before he vanished.

It had been five years.

Five long years of waiting, hoping, breaking, and rebuilding herself again and again. The village had moved on. People stopped asking questions. Some even said Adrian had died. Others believed he had simply abandoned her.

But Elara refused to believe any of it.

Because love like theirs didn't just disappear.

Adrian wasn't just someone she loved—he was her entire world. They had grown up together, shared dreams under the same sky, and promised to leave the small village someday to build a life in the city.

But fate had its own cruel plans.

One night, without any warning, Adrian left. No explanation. No goodbye. Only that letter.

At first, Elara was angry. She cried, screamed, and even tried to forget him. But every attempt failed. His memories were everywhere—the riverbank where they used to sit, the tree where he carved her name, the laughter that echoed in her mind.

Time passed, but her heart stayed frozen in that one moment.

One stormy night, much like the night he left, someone knocked on her door.

Her heart raced.

She hesitated. Her hands trembled as she slowly opened the door.

And there he was.

Adrian.

But he wasn't the same.

His eyes, once full of life, now carried a deep sadness. His face was pale, his body weak, as if life had drained everything out of him.

"Elara…" he whispered.

She couldn't move. She couldn't speak. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she stared at the man she had waited for all these years.

"Why?" was the only word she managed to say.

Adrian stepped inside slowly, his gaze never leaving hers.

"I wanted to come back sooner… but I couldn't."

"Couldn't? Or didn't?" her voice cracked.

He closed his eyes, as if the truth itself was too heavy to bear.

"I was taken away… forced into something I never chose. I tried to escape many times, but every attempt failed. I didn't want to drag you into my darkness."

Elara's anger melted into confusion and pain.

"Then why come back now?"

Adrian looked at her, and for the first time, she saw fear in his eyes.

"Because I don't have much time left."

The world around her stopped.

"What do you mean?"

He took a deep breath.

"I'm dying, Elara."

The rain outside grew heavier, as if the sky itself couldn't hold back its sorrow.

Elara felt her knees weaken. The man she had loved, waited for, dreamed of… was now standing in front of her, only to leave again.

"No… no, you're lying…" she shook her head, refusing to accept it.

"I wish I was," Adrian smiled faintly. "But I didn't want to die without seeing you… without telling you the truth."

Tears streamed down her face as she stepped closer.

"You made me suffer for five years… and now you come b
