Chapter 8 - HYDRAULIC PRESS

The row of buildings Giorgio now found himself in was completely empty. They were to be renovated and then rented out by the end of the year. Giorgio had analysed their interconnected structure whilst he was riding the wave down the street, and realised that they formed a direct path to his destination, whilst providing him some shelter from Eos's mortal dives.

A loud crash was heard from some distance away; Giorigo was certain it was Eos destroying the building he had thrown her into earlier, in order to retrieve her axe. He used this opportunity to traverse through the complex of buildings and create some distance between them. He ran through a couple of empty rooms before reaching the wall separating the buildings. Although connected structurally, there was no way of entering the neighbouring buildings without using the front door. With few options, Giorgio engulfed his hand in the same pressurised water as he used on Eos and slammed into the wall. The mix of his water technique and spirit, as well as Giorgio's natural strength, allowed his fist to be injected through the wall and to the other side. He broke the wall down and created a space big enough to enter through; on the other side was a mirror image of the room he had just left. The same bland, rotting walls formed a labyrinth around him as he ran through each room.

He had barely stepped into new territory before the sound of a missile began to approach. It was a high-pitched whistling noise, and it grew louder by the second; no matter how fast he ran, it continued to catch up to him. Then, from a passing window, Giorgio saw the fiery wings of Eos. Her eyes showed great aggression and anger as they began to pulse brighter. Giorgio wrapped himself in a sheet of freezing water, which did not sway an inch away from his body as he ran, in preparation for sunrise to strike. He manipulated the temperature to reach an unforeseen level of coolness and hoped it would be enough to counter the beam's unbearable heat.

Two beams penetrated the wall next to him, melting it instantly. Eos had very minimal perception of what was going on inside, using the pattern of windows to keep track of Giorgio's position every so often. For the most part, she shot the beams at random, and the entire row of buildings was quickly being torn apart and set on fire. Giorgio stopped momentarily, realising that the beams would continue to ignite his path as long as he continued running this way, or until the buildings no longer stood. He relinquished his armour of water and channelled it back into his fist. He broke the floor beneath him and fell into a small reception room on the next floor. Continuing to traverse the way he had been, running on foot and breaking through each wall with his fist, would be a death sentence now that Eos was right behind him. He needed a faster mode of transportation if he were to make it to the end of the street.

Eos swiftly noticed that Giorgio had not passed through the next window; she ceased to hesitate, diving into the building closest to her. As she shattered both the wall and floor of the building, she was suddenly consumed by an ocean. Giorgio had summoned enough waves to occupy the space of every room. Its depth and speed were intense; some waves pushed him so high he almost collided with the roof. He needn't act with any extraneous moves, for the water's pressure was enough to destroy any opposing force in its wake. He relaxed in the water and allowed it to cruise him along.

As for Eos, she screamed bubbles of inaudible pain. The water burned her and extinguished her flames; she was in excruciating agony. She was dragged through debris as she became aware that she might drown. In a desperate attempt to escape the technique, Eos took the next opportunity where her arms exited to the surface, and thrust her axe down at full force. It became embedded in the ground; the strength she had exerted was overwhelming, so much so that even the current's power couldn't lift it from its place. She clutched the handle of the axe with all her might, allowing the waves to wash over her, whilst also trying not to be swept away by them.

Giorgio smiled and laughed as he exited the building complex and landed on the street. His suit was completely dry as the waves disappeared; he was unaware that Eos had been caught up in his technique and looked around for her wings of fire in the air. Where he stood at the end of the street, the pavement dipped and intersected into a new direction. It ran down a steep hill, which was the gateway to a heavy stream of water. The drainage tunnel was in sight, and he could see that water was flowing out of it at a rapid pace. He started for the tunnel's enormous entrance, hopeful that Eos would follow, wherever she was. He had spotted this whilst falling from her clutches, and considered it to be the perfect point of execution.

Eos arose and lifted her axe from the ground, having to use a surprising amount of strength to do so. The water had weakened her greatly, completely extinguishing her fire phase and causing unimaginable pain. However, it was not this alone that was now affecting her strength; Nero was moving further away from her, and it wouldn't be long till she would be fully withdrawn from the battle. Yet, even with her dissipating strength, she refused to quit and let Giorgio escape, knowing she could still do more.

Giorgio had run down the bank of the river at a rapid pace; he wanted to be in a prime position for when Eos returned. He could still feel large amounts of spirit flowing vigorously through him, yet his tactic to eliminate Eos in one move would dissipate almost all of it instantly. He looked back and still couldn't see her. In fear that she might lose sight of him, Giorgio put his hand into the river and manipulated the flowing water into a large spike shooting upwards. He continued to do this down the entire bank, acting as a guiding path for her to follow.

Eos stood in place, still in the building, trying to activate her fire again. However, her entire body was soaked, and this nullified the option to activate the ability completely. The energy within her was running low; soon, she would be unable to fight. Therefore, out of pride and ambition, she did not falter to channel her remaining energy into shedding the layer of rocky, burnt skin and exposing the world to her glowing, green back. She lacked the strength to fully activate this final, dreadful stage, but her back was enough to provide her with wings of immense speed, necessary to catch up to Giorgio and give her the upper hand. The green pigment oozed like a kind of magical paint over a sculpture of an angel. She flew up through the building immediately, spotting Giorgio's path of water, and following it from the skies.

She stopped mid-air as Giorgio stared at her, standing on the water. He saw her green wings and knew there was little time: he must act now. Within half a second, Giorigo had shot off the water and was in the air; he skated on a path of water which was forming in front of him by the second. It stayed in place like ice, whilst all its natural properties were still present. Eos dashed at him, and they narrowly missed coming into contact, Giorgio redirecting his path of water. The two jousted back and forth, Giorgio's path becoming more unpredictable as his pace increased. Although her wings gave her unnatural speed, Eos's eyes and processing of information couldn't keep up with his movement, as she had failed to adapt to his new technique. She remained stationary, studying him, until she could finally predict his next movement. Then she saw it; suddenly, she swung her axe and a green arrow-like projectile shot from it like a gun. It obliterated everything in its path, but barely missed Giorgio. He had been following her eyes and could tell what she was planning, allowing him to just move out of the way. Yet, the immense power and surprise of the shot caused him to fall from his slide of water, which had been circling Eos, and he fell to the ground. Since this new projection type had overridden Squeaky Clean, he no longer had his armour of soapy invincibility, causing him to sustain heavy damage when coming in contact with the concrete ground. Blood fell from his head as Eos descended to his level.

She seized his throat, clutching it tightly. She ultimately didn't even need to activate her fire, for she had beaten him with one singular strike. Giorgio made a pathetic attempt to hit her with a cheap blow. Her attention was wholly focused on watching the light fade from his eyes, leading him to land a hit on her throat, water coated his fist. The water was the same as what had come from the river, but the attack did not affect Eos due to its weak nature. She smiled as the victor and increased the pressure around Giorgio's throat.

'DIE, DIE!' she cried with great fury.

But, Giorigo smiled. He raised his hand and snapped his fingers. In an instant, Eos was flown backwards as an immovable force pressed against her throat. It pulled her back to the position where Giorgio had been circling her; the strips of thick water were still frozen in the air, but they seemed to be flowing more rapidly. She stopped, now attached to one of the planes of water, with her throat completely bound to it and immovable. She was forced to watch as the paths of water he had created began to expand and close in around her, forming a perfect, circular cage. Giorgio clenched his fingers and slowly brought his hands together; it looked as though he was trying to crush a large, dense object between his hands. The water flooded into the ball and continued to increase in pace until it reached levels of speed higher than the current of a tsunami. His grin was devilish, for his plan had worked: she was trapped.

A major part of the projection, Fico Di Amalfi, is not simply its ability to manipulate

water, but also to alter its density and pressure. Giorgio was absorbing all the flowing water in the channel, hence his strategic placement to battle Eos by the active drainage pipe, and displacing it to the orb that now encapsulated Eos. He increased the pressure and density until the space inside was claustrophobic and unbreathable. Soon, Eos found herself drowning and being crushed. The orb of water was gigantic, impenetrable. 'You lost because you underestimated me, Eos! Forgive me, Nero, but I must do this. Hydraulic Press!'

With this, all the water that could be found in the river closed into the orb, and the pressure had reached a level never seen before in liquid form. He could feel in his hands her battle to escape; her wings flapped excitedly and desperately, until all the resistance had stopped, and the water flowed without fault.

Eos had been completely pulverised as the air was relinquished from her. Giorgio had finally won.
