Chapter 2 - The Quiet Things She Never Said

The house was quieter than usual.

Not peaceful — just quieter in a way that felt heavier.

Ayaan's words from yesterday still lingered in the air.

"Find work."

That sentence had turned their world upside down without him needing to raise his voice twice.

đź‘© Kriti's Morning

Kriti sat on the dining table scrolling through her phone lazily, half-interested in job listings, half-not.

"This is so boring…" she muttered.

Ayaan's voice came from behind her.

"If it's boring, it means it's necessary."

Kriti froze slightly.

He had already changed into his formal suit. Clean. Perfect. Controlled.

Like always.

"You both will start applying today," he said. "No delay."

Kriti sighed loudly but didn't argue.

She had learned one thing early — arguing with Ayaan was like talking to a wall that already decided the answer.

Mahi's Silence

Mahi didn't say much.

She just nodded once.

But unlike Kriti, she wasn't thinking about jobs.

Not exactly.

That morning, after everyone left the dining area, she quietly returned to her room.

The door closed softly behind her.

Silence.

Then—

She moved to her desk.

Slowly.

Carefully.

Like she was entering a different world.

The Hidden Life Begins

She opened her laptop.

No notifications. No distractions.

Just a blank document.

Her fingers paused for a moment.

Then she typed.

Not fast.

Not rushed.

But like someone opening a door she had kept locked for years.

Words appeared on the screen.

Not random words.

Not assignments.

A story.

A world she had never spoken about.

Characters she had never introduced.

Emotions she never showed outside.

She didn't write her name anywhere.

She never did.

Because this wasn't Mahi from the house.

This was someone else entirely.

Someone who only existed when no one was watching.

Her Secret Routine

Hours passed quietly.

Outside her room, life moved normally.

But inside, her world was alive.

She paused sometimes, reading what she wrote, correcting a line, deleting a sentence, rewriting it again.

Not because she had to.

Because she couldn't accept anything less than perfect.

A notification suddenly blinked on her screen.

A publishing platform draft folder.

Empty for the world.

Full for her.

She hesitated.

Then she uploaded a small part of her writing.

Not enough to be recognized.

Just enough to exist.

Then she closed the laptop immediately.

Like she was afraid someone might see even through the screen.

Knock on the Door

A soft knock broke the silence.

"Mahi."

Ayaan's voice.

She quickly turned the laptop off and stood up.

"Come in."

The door opened slightly.

Ayaan looked at her room briefly.

Neat.

Quiet.

Too quiet.

"You're not going anywhere today?" he asked.

"No," she replied.

He nodded once.

His eyes lingered on her for a second longer than usual — like he was observing something he couldn't fully understand.

Then he left.

The door closed.

🌙 After He Left

Mahi stood still for a moment.

Then she sat back down slowly.

Her heartbeat was steady.

But her thoughts weren't.

Because every time Ayaan looked at her like that…

It felt like he was close to seeing something she had buried very deep.

She glanced at her laptop again.

Closed.

Silent.

But alive inside.

In a world where everyone was being told to find a job…

Mahi had already found something else.

Something no one knew about.

Not Kriti.

Not Ayaan.

Not even the world she would one day change.

Her story had already begun…

…it was just written in silence.
