Chapter 75 - Chapter 75: Morgan le Fay

Once upon a time, Morgan's heart had been filled with resentment.

Originally the noble Fairy Queen of Avalon, Vivian, representing elegance and mystery, she came to this land as the Princess of Britain under the plan and instruction of the old King Uther and the Great Magus Merlin.

For her, it was hard to say whether this was good or bad.

Although she changed from a spirit of the world to a human, losing something akin to freedom, she also gained something.

For example, her supreme talent and attainments in Magecraft, and the identity known as 'Lord of the Isle'.

Thus, Morgan, born in Britain, no longer existed as the Fairy Queen, but as the master of this island and everything on it. In other words, having taken the identity of Lord of the Isle as her essence, she was bound to become the King of Britain.

Such a pursuit had been etched into her soul. If she did not pursue that power and the throne, she would also be abandoning and denying herself.

And in fact, Morgan did just that. From a young age, she displayed an extremely high talent for learning. Whether it was learning government affairs, managing a country, or the so-called royal principles, she could do it all perfectly.

But everything changed, and resentment was born, on a certain day.

After observing Morgan's growth for a period of time, the Great Sage Merlin approached King Uther again and bluntly told him that Morgan would not be a King who could shoulder Britain's future. He even said that not only did she have no possibility of becoming King, but in the future, she would even become an enemy obstructing the Perfect King.

Since that day, Morgan's life and status underwent tremendous changes.

The usual classes were no longer held for her, and Uther's attitude towards her changed from encouragement and expectation to suppression and alienation.

Although she was still a Princess, in the royal court at that time, almost everyone knew she was out of favor.

But why?

Why didn't you see my efforts? Why didn't you see the expectation in my eyes? Why did you deny the biological daughter you prayed for just by listening to the words of an outsider?

Didn't you summon me from Avalon? Why abandon me after doing so?

Morgan at that time was very uncomprehending and extremely angry. She tried her best to do something to prove herself to Uther and Merlin.

But what she received in return was the former's frown and the pleasure in the latter's eyes. Even after the first time she made a huge scene with King Uther over this matter, she received the titles of Witch and Demon Consort, and this reputation was spread throughout Britain by Merlin under Uther's instruction.

So Morgan began to resent them. But even so, she did not give up on proving herself to Uther.

She was the Lord of the Isle, Morgan le Fay Pendragon. Pursuing the throne of Britain was her essence; she could not give up.

But Uther's attitude remained resolute. Furthermore, after Morgan came of age at 15, he even wanted to marry her off in a political alliance to his former comrade-in-arms, the fat-pig-like King Lot of Orkney.

On the night she learned this news, Morgan rejected the order with a fire that burned down the entire Orkney county.

Although this completely cemented her reputation as a cruel and cunning witch afterward, it also made Uther and Merlin realize that Morgan was no longer a powerless puppet for them to manipulate.

But it was to no avail. They still issued a royal decree forbidding Morgan from touching royal power.

So Morgan chose another way to try and persuade them.

Using her own blood as a medium, combined with the gifts of nature and spirits on the Isle of Britain, she created several powerful artificial infants.

They were Gawain, possessing the scorching heat of the sun; Agravain, possessing the fortitude of steel; and the siblings Gaheris and Gareth, bestowed with magical energy and the blessing of the giant wolf.

She wanted to use these children with immense potential to tell Uther and Merlin that as long as they let her become King, she could create one powerful warrior after another.

When that time came, whether it was the Vile King Vortigern or the Roman Empire across the continent that had long coveted Britain, under the powerful 'children' created by her, Morgan, none of this would be a problem.

But Morgan ultimately underestimated Uther's trust in Merlin's prophecy. Not only did he forcefully give these infants in swaddling clothes to King Lot as an apology to win over his powerful forces, but he also took this opportunity to brand Morgan with the title of a slut.

To brand a little girl who craved to prove herself to him, who was even his own daughter, with such a label.

Uther's behavior was that of a complete beast, an existence that would be despised by all demons even if placed in hell.

Because of this, Morgan's disappointment and resentment towards him deepened. But despite this, she still did not choose to leave Camelot.

The obsession with being King always lingered in her heart.

The depth of such obsession did not leave even after she learned from Merlin shortly after that her birth was merely an experiment, and the meaning of her existence was merely to pave the way for the Perfect King who could bear the future of Britain.

But the unavoidable consequence was that the resentment and other emotions in her heart piled up even more, and were similarly transferred to her half-sister, who was bound to compete with her for the throne.

So under such circumstances, Morgan became increasingly gloomy and tended towards darkness.

All the resentment was accumulating and being suppressed. The final result of this would be nothing more than a surging darkness that would swallow all of Britain and everyone in it, while simultaneously destroying herself.

And it was precisely in this state, when Morgan was almost yielding to destiny, that she met a Water Fairy.

A flowing water fairy who didn't run to the Inner Sea of the Planet, but instead came to disturb her lake of birth, even carrying the aura of the Red Dragon that she abhorred immensely.

It seemed that from that moment on, something changed.

Taking him in, conversing, keeping company, and even offering consolation and promises when the sorrow and pain arose upon the official announcement that the one who drew the Sword of Selection would be the King of Britain.

Things like destiny were born to be broken.

The so-called impossibilities, the unworthiness, the 'will nots'—they were all just a destiny forced upon her by Uther and Merlin.

Although the Knight's Curse given by Uther was nominally broken after that.

But on the night the curse was established, Morgan gained her most loyal knight.

Even she herself didn't dare to imagine that the little Water Fairy would miraculously break through his shackles, transforming under the moonlight and her gaze into that clear, water-like young knight.

That was undoubtedly a miracle, right? Even if it was answering the expectations of the Age of Gods, it was undoubtedly a miracle that belonged to her, Morgan, right?

Since then, everything changed again.

All the anger, all the resentment, and the weight of destiny that had lingered in her heart countless times dissipated and faded away with the oath on that day.

Her cage of destiny was truly broken.

That knight named Lamorak also truly played a hymn of celebration for her on the day she became King, just as he had sworn.

Even though the venue for playing that hymn was on a velvet bed, and all the eulogies and melodies were her high and low moans, this ambiguity represented the love and bond between them.

It was after that day that Morgan gained hope for the future and a plan to put her ideals into action.

Although there were unpleasantries during the execution of the plan—such as Lamorak getting too close to her weak sister, or that meager little Red Dragon, poor as the winter plains of Britain, actually daring to covet her knight—even so, Morgan firmly believed Lamorak would not leave her.

Because she knew he loved her, and this love could not be transferred to anyone else.

That's why Morgan acted so indifferent, even going against her true feelings in moments of passion to say she couldn't possibly fall in love with him.

But on that day, change came again.

When Morgan saw that what returned from Londinium to Camelot was not Lamorak himself, but a letter he sent, that inexplicable anxiety born since his departure almost instantly overflowed her heart.

Could it be that Vortigern suddenly changed his mind and imprisoned Lamorak? Or did that damn Red Dragon happen to lead an army to attack, causing him to be trapped there?

But when Morgan, unable to suppress her nervousness, impatiently opened the letter, she froze.

The truth about the fading of the Age of Gods, the future of the island's destruction, the conspiracy with the Vile King, and what made Morgan frown the most: temporarily joining the Knights of the Round Table.

After reading the letter, Morgan was entirely in a daze.

She boasted of being the master of all Britain, yet she never knew that the end of the Age of Gods would invite such a result. She had thought the end of the Age of Gods would merely mean a temporary food shortage in Britain and a certain impact on the environment.

And combining this news, Morgan also understood why Lamorak chose to cooperate with Vortigern, even joining the Knights of the Round Table knowing she disliked them.

Even though that guy used terms like 'infiltration' and 'temporary'.

So all of Lamorak's actions this time were entirely for her.

After thinking through all this, Morgan fell silent.

That idiot knight had never forgotten his oath and promise to her from beginning to end.

Because of the demise of the Age of Gods, all the people of Britain except her would die. Such a King would be meaningless, so he chose to risk his life to conspire with Vortigern for the realm.

Because he knew how deep her obsession with becoming King was, he did not hesitate to bear the infamy of the world and infiltrate the Round Table, even if it placed him in endless danger.

Because he loved her, he was willing to sacrifice everything.

Such a him, such a Lamorak.

Truly an idiot among idiots...

Unprecedentedly, the thought of abandoning Camelot—which was currently in a crucial period—to go find him arose in Morgan.

This was tantamount to betraying the conviction of becoming King she had always held.

Even Morgan herself was startled when she realized she had this thought.

So ultimately, she did not abandon the throne to go find him.

Because she believed in Lamorak, just like he said in his letter.

"My Queen, please believe me. Your most loyal knight will definitely bring you the future of your great kingdom, and the ultimate victory in this war."

So Morgan suppressed the anxiety in her heart and turned to busy herself with something else.

That was to leave a surprise for Lamorak's return.

Someone strong enough, growing fast enough, sufficient to replace Lamorak in fighting King Arthur, and even capable of ruling all of Britain in her stead in the future.

To be precise, a child.

Digging out the forbidden Magecraft scroll she had long sealed away in a dark room.

Morgan began this miraculous magical ritual.

Using all of Camelot as the foundation, supplemented by the leylines for nourishment.

Giving the purest blood representing herself, the fairy factor belonging to Lamorak, and—although extremely reluctant, but necessary for the child's rapid growth—the blood of Arthur, the Red Dragon. To this, she added the 'Lightning' from nature as a blessing.

What was born from this was a tiny little girl, with a face identical to Morgan and Artoria, yet possessing the same azure eyes as Lamorak.

Looking at this child lying in swaddling clothes, with pale golden hair somewhere between the three of them, a rare maternal tenderness appeared in Morgan's eyes.

She knew this child was different from Gawain, Agravain, and the others who only had her blood.

She was truly a child belonging to Morgan and Lamorak.

And she would also be the Child of the King of Camelot, born to shoulder their future.

Named: 'Mordred'.

Its meaning in ancient Celtic was 'Death', but it also held the meaning of 'New Life'.

Her birth represented the passing of all of Morgan's past sorrows, replaced by a new future with her knight and lover, Lamorak.

Furthermore, the other meaning of destruction in Mordred's name could also signify that she would replace Lamorak as the one to end Arthur.

Thinking this, Morgan's life was no longer confined to handling Camelot's government affairs. She would take out a lot of time to accompany Mordred as she grew, and even the anxiety in her heart that never disappeared decreased slightly.

And in her spare time, Morgan would also tell Mordred the stories of her father, Lamorak, while incidentally belittling a certain flat-chested girl named Arthur.

And she encouraged Mordred not to feel inferior because her body carried her blood, but to use it as motivation to fight and defeat her.

Thus, amidst little Mo's ignorant expression, the days gradually passed.

Until one day, news of the frontline war arrived: the advance on Londinium, the changes in the battle, and the sudden appearance of the White Dragon's aura.

And what caused Morgan's expression to drastically change and the anxiety in her heart to explode was sensing Merlin breaking his vow and breaching Avalon.

This cunning incubus used a special method to delay Morgan's perception of Avalon, and hid a clone of his soul within Artoria's mind, thereby evading Morgan's investigation.

It wasn't until he appeared on the battlefield that Morgan sensed he had actually broken his vow.

So without stopping, Morgan instantly rushed to Avalon. She knew Merlin's true body couldn't possibly leave the Star Observation Tower, so she planned to forcefully recall Merlin by attacking his main body.

Unexpectedly, on the way, she was ambushed by fairies who had long colluded with Merlin, and was forced to be trapped in the Fairy Forest by an illusion.

When she successfully shattered the illusion and arrived at the Observation Tower, what she saw was Merlin, blind in both eyes, looking completely insane.

Seemingly sensing Morgan's arrival, Merlin used words to mock Morgan's action of believing an outsider to shatter destiny regardless of the Will of the World.

He said, even if the Age of Gods returned, even if he went blind, even if Morgan achieved victory, all of this would still be destroyed.

And the first to be destroyed would be Lamorak.

Ignoring the madman Merlin, urged by the anxious and irritable emotions in her heart, Morgan rushed to Londinium at top speed.

And there she saw two intertwining lances and swords of light.

As well as the voice and words that made her eyes cold and chilled her to the bone.

"Lamorak! I will definitely win, and then keep you by my side forever!"

Under the twilight, shadows flowed, burning and expanding like a witch's wrath.
