Chapter 15: Entering the Demon Abyss Again
From the burial ground to the Demon Abyss was about four hours on foot.
Lin Luo didn't ride a sword – he didn't have one, and he didn't want to borrow anyone else's. He sent Bone One ahead to scout while he followed behind on foot. Four hours of walking. If he moved fast, he could make it in a day.
The road was quiet.
The land east of the Cangxuan Sect was sparsely populated. Occasionally he passed a rogue cultivator or two, but when they saw his gray Chores Hall clothes, they didn't even bother to look twice. Foundation Establishment Layer 1, a chores disciple – not worth noticing.
Lin Luo enjoyed the peace.
As he walked, he made plans in his head.
The Blood Essence Crystal was on the second layer of the Demon Abyss, in the Blood Clan Elder's lair. Last time he and Qin Yun went, the Elder was sleeping, guarding the Blood Soul Pearl. Now that the pearl had been stolen by Bone One, the Elder was definitely awake – and definitely angry.
What would an awakened Golden Core Layer 6 Blood Clan member do?
Lin Luo didn't know. But he did know that fighting him head-on was out of the question.
He needed a way to draw him away.
Lin Luo pulled out his phone and checked Bone One's stats.

Qi Gathering Layer 7 was roughly equivalent to Qi Refining Layer 7. Fighting a Golden Core Layer 6 – nearly two major realms apart. Bone One would die instantly.
But dying was Bone One's specialty.
The corner of Lin Luo's mouth curled up. He gave Bone One a new command: [After entering the Demon Abyss second layer, actively expose yourself and lure the Blood Clan Elder away. Revive immediately after death and continue luring. Repeat until the main account completes the mission.]
A line of text appeared on Bone One's interface: [Command confirmed. Bone One will execute "Bait" mode on Demon Abyss second layer.]
Lin Luo switched to the main account's backpack and checked his items.
Spirit Recovery Pill ×8, Life Extension Pill ×1, Antidote Pill ×3, Light Talisman ×4, Teleport Talisman ×1.
Enough.
He checked his Spirit Stone balance: 1850.
To create a Blood Clan alt account cost 1000 Spirit Stones. That would leave him with 850.
Lin Luo hesitated.
Should he create the Blood Clan alt account before entering the Demon Abyss? A Blood Clan account in the Elder's lair might have special advantages – like not being attacked by other Blood Clan members, or being able to disguise as one of them.
But after some thought, he decided against it.
A new Blood Clan account would start at Qi Gathering Layer 1 – too weak. And the Blood Clan Elder was at Golden Core Layer 6. Disguising as a clan member might not work. If he got caught, it would just alert the enemy.
"Get the Blood Essence Crystal first, then create the alt account," Lin Luo decided.
He put his phone away and quickened his pace.

When he reached the Demon Abyss, it was already evening.
The setting sun painted the earth dark red. The huge crack lay across the desert like a black scar. The black mist rising from the crack was thicker than last time – churning, rising, as if something was breathing down below.
Lin Luo stood at the edge and looked down.
Pitch black. Nothing visible.
He took out a Light Talisman, activated it, and dropped it down. The talisman floated slowly down, lighting up the rock walls on both sides. The walls were covered in runes – not righteous runes, but dark red, twisted runes that seemed to writhe.
Lin Luo took a deep breath and jumped.
The fall was the same as last time. Black mist closed in from all sides. Visibility got worse. The Light Talisman's glow grew dim in the fog, only lighting up a few meters around him.
He landed.
Demon Abyss, first layer.
Lin Luo steadied himself, pulled out his phone, and switched to Bone One's interface.
Bone One had already jumped down. He had landed a few seconds after Lin Luo, breaking two ribs on impact. He revived for 1 Spirit Stone and was now crouched in the shadows behind Lin Luo, his Shadow Cloak covering his whole body.
Lin Luo controlled Bone One to stand up and scout ahead.
There were fewer demons on the first layer than last time. Either they had been scared off, or they had run from the Blood Clan Elder's presence. Bone One walked for several hundred meters without encountering a single demon.
The shaft to the second layer appeared.
Lin Luo stood at the edge and looked down. The shaft was pitch black. Dark red runes on the walls pulsed on and off, like breathing.
He switched to Bone One's perspective and controlled him to jump down.
Bone One free-fell.
Splat. Dead.
Revive.
Jump again.
Splat. Dead.
Revive.
On the third try, Bone One landed on the second layer floor.
Lin Luo switched to Bone One's perspective and looked around.
The second layer was different from last time.
The blood pool was still there, but most of the liquid was gone, exposing dark red crystals at the bottom. The Blood Clan Elder was not there. Drag marks covered the stone floor, as if something had been dragged away.
Had the Elder left?
Lin Luo controlled Bone One to search the chamber. No ambushes.
Then he switched back to the main account and climbed down the shaft.
The air on the second layer was even more oppressive than the first. The smell of blood was stronger. Dark red spirit stones on the walls gave off a faint glow, making the whole chamber look like a giant internal organ.
Lin Luo walked to the blood pool, crouched down, and looked at the dark red crystals at the bottom.

Lin Luo reached into the blood pool and scooped up a handful.
The liquid was thick and warm – like real blood. His fingers touched the dark red crystals. The crystals grew warm, as if responding to him.
He scooped up about a dozen pieces and stored them all in the Shared Storage.

And the Elder wasn't even there.
He controlled Blood One to stand up – wait, Blood One wasn't born in the blood pool. He appeared in a corner of the chamber, as if materializing from the shadows.
The moment Blood One stood up, the dark red spirit stones in the chamber glowed brighter, as if welcoming him.
Lin Luo controlled Blood One to walk to the blood pool, crouch down, and reach his hand into the liquid.

Inside was dark red liquid – thicker and more viscous than the blood pool.

Lin Luo's eyes lit up.
He controlled Blood One to pour out the jar's contents.

Lin Luo switched back to the main account and checked the Shared Storage.

He nodded with satisfaction and was about to leave when his phone buzzed again.

Lin Luo's heart skipped a beat.
He switched to Bone One's interface and gave him a command: [Wait at the second layer entrance. When the Blood Clan Elder appears, actively expose yourself and run in the opposite direction.]
Bone One stood up and walked to the second layer entrance.
Lin Luo switched back to the main account and looked around the chamber. The blood pool was dry. Several jars were missing. Blood One's footprints were on the floor.
The Blood Clan Elder would know someone had been here when he returned.
But it didn't matter. The items were already secured.
Lin Luo took out his Teleport Talisman and crushed it.
A gentle force wrapped around him. His vision went black.
When he opened his eyes again, he was standing at the Cangxuan Sect's mountain gate.
The sun was just setting. The last traces of red were disappearing from the sky.
Lin Luo looked back at the mountain gate, then down at his phone.
Bone One was still on the Demon Abyss second layer.
[Bone One: Blood Clan Elder has appeared. Executing "Bait" mode.]
Lin Luo switched to Bone One's perspective.
Bone One charged out from the shadows and swung his blade at the Blood Clan Elder.

The Elder looked down at the skeleton, barely reaching his waist, his eyes full of killing intent.
"You again."
One palm strike.

Bone One revived ten meters away and charged again.
The Blood Clan Elder's brow furrowed.
Lin Luo switched back to the main account, the corner of his mouth curling up.
Bone One could keep the Elder busy for a long time. An unkillable skeleton was the most annoying opponent.
He turned and walked into the Cangxuan Sect, heading toward the Sect Leader's study.
Time to turn in the mission.

"Back?"

"Did you get them?"
Lin Luo took ten Blood Essence Crystals from the Shared Storage and placed them on the table.
Lu Yuan stared at the pile of dark red crystals for three seconds.
"Ten pieces?"
"Yes."
"You, alone, from under the nose of a Golden Core Layer 6 Blood Clan Elder – you took ten Blood Essence Crystals?"
"He didn't see me," Lin Luo said. "My skeleton drew him away."
Lu Yuan stared at him for a long time, then shook his head.
"Lin Luo, you become harder and harder to read."
"You flatter me, Sect Leader."
Lu Yuan picked up one of the crystals and looked it over.
"With these, the Cangxuan Sect won't lack Foundation Establishment Pills for three years." He put the crystals away. "You did well. The sect will not treat you unfairly."
"Thank you, Sect Leader."
"What reward do you want?"
Lin Luo thought for a moment.
"I want a flying sword."
Lu Yuan blinked, then smiled.
"The Chores Hall doesn't give out flying swords, but the sect can." He pulled a short sword from his sleeve and placed it on the table. "This sword is called 'Greenwind.' A mid-grade magical tool. It will serve you well until the Golden Core Stage."
Lin Luo took the sword and tested it in his hand. Light. Sharp. Fine runes were carved on the blade.

Thirty more attack points than the Black Iron Axe. And it could fly.

Lin Luo turned and left.

Lin Luo put his phone away, gripped the Greenwind Sword, and walked back to the Chores Hall.
He had made a lot today.
The Blood Essence Crystals were turned in for the mission. The Essence Blood was saved for Blood One. Bone One had gone from Qi Gathering Layer 5 to Layer 7. Blood One had gone from Qi Gathering Layer 1 to Layer 4.
And he had a flying sword now.
Starting tomorrow, he wouldn't have to walk anymore.
