Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Children of a

Chapter 3: The Children of a Second Chance ()Wind roared in Deku Beifong's ears as he fell from the sky, the forest of an unfamiliar world rushing up to meet him.

"WHY AM I ALWAYS FALLING?

But just before impact

The air caught him.

Soft. Controlled. Obedient.

Like it knew him.

Deku slowed, twisting midair before landing hard in a rough roll across the dirt.

"…Okay," he groaned, pushing himself up. "Definitely not normal—but I'll take it."

He barely had time to catch his breath.

Because suddenly—

Two flashes of light appeared beside him.

Deku froze.

"…Wait."

The light faded.

And two children stood there.

A boy.

And a girl.

Both around seven years old.

The boy blinked rapidly, looking around in confusion.

"Uh… okay. This is new. I'm pretty sure I was just—"

He stopped.

Looked down at his hands.

"…Why am I small?"

The girl didn't panic.

She stood still.

Too still.

Her golden eyes slowly lifted, sharp and calculating even in a child's face.

"…Where am I?" she asked coldly.

Deku stared at them.

"…No way."

The boy looked up at him.

"…Do I know you?"

Deku pointed at him. "You're"

"Sokka," the boy said automatically… then froze.

"Wait. Yeah. I am Sokka."

He grabbed his head.

"Okay, hold on—this is weird. Last thing I remember, I was—"

He went quiet.

"…I thought I was dead."

The girl scoffed softly.

"Pathetic."

Deku looked at her.

She stood with her arms crossed, chin slightly raised despite her smaller body—like she refused to appear weak no matter the situation.

"…And you're Azula," Deku said.

Her eyes snapped to him instantly.

"How do you know my name?"

There was a dangerous edge in her voice—too mature, too sharp for a child.

Deku raised his hands. "Long story."

Azula narrowed her eyes.

"…The last thing I remember," she said slowly, "I was in chains."

Her expression darkened.

"In a cell."

A flicker of something unstable passed through her gaze—anger, humiliation… something deeper.

"They thought they could break me."

She let out a quiet, unhinged laugh.

"…Fools."

Sokka glanced between them.

"Okay, I'm officially lost. Why is the scary fire princess here, why am I a kid again, and who are you supposed to be?"

Before Deku could answer

The air shifted.

That presence returned.

The god.

All three of them felt it.

A voice echoed around them.

"This is your second chance."

Sokka looked up. "Oh. Great. Disembodied sky voice. That's always a good sign."

Azula didn't look surprised.

She looked… annoyed.

"You took me from my rightful place," she said coldly. "Return me immediately."

"You were alone," the voice replied calmly.

"Your father led you down a path of destruction for his own gain… only to cast you aside in the end. You may not understand now—but you will."

Azula's expression twitched.

Barely.

"You had lost everything."

Silence.

Then—

"…I had not lost," she snapped. "They betrayed me."

Her voice cracked slightly—but her posture stayed rigid.

The god continued, unfazed.

"And yet, here you are."

The air grew heavier.

"This is an opportunity. For all of you."

Sokka crossed his arms.

"…Opportunity for what exactly? Because last time I checked, I already did my part saving the world."

"A second chance," the voice said.

Sokka blinked.

"…Oh."

Deku listened quietly.

"For you," the voice continued, "a chance to live beyond the life you thought ended."

Sokka exhaled slowly.

"…Okay… that's… actually not bad."

The presence shifted toward Azula.

"For you… a chance to choose a different path."

Azula laughed again—but there was something unstable in it.

"You think I need redemption?"

"No," the voice said.

A pause.

"I think you need a choice."

Silence fell.

Heavy.

Uncomfortable.

Azula's eyes burned—but she said nothing.

Then the presence turned to Deku.

"And you…"

Deku straightened.

"You will guide them."

"…Guide?" Deku repeated. "You're giving me two kids no offense

"None taken," Sokka said.

"—and expecting me to what, raise them?!"

"Yes."

Deku blinked.

"…I was a janitor yesterday."

"And now I'm kid as well? the voice replied, "you are something more."

The wind stirred around Deku.

A reminder.

Airbending.

Power.

Responsibility.

"They are both seven years old," the voice continued. "As are you, in this world."

Sokka looked down at himself again.

"…Man. Puberty round two. This better go better than the first time."

Deku couldn't help it—he laughed.

Azula shot them both a glare.

"This is a waste of time," she said sharply. "I will not follow anyone."

Deku looked at her.

Really looked.

Behind the anger.

Behind the pride.

There was something broken there.

"…You don't have to follow," he said calmly.

Azula frowned slightly.

"…But we're stuck together," Deku continued. "So we might as well not kill each other on day one."

Sokka nodded immediately. "I strongly support that plan."

Azula scoffed.

"…We'll see."

The presence began to fade.

"Your journey begins now."

The forest around them grew clearer.

Real.

Dangerous.

Alive.

Deku took a deep breath.

Looked at the two kids beside him.

One sarcastic but good-hearted.

One dangerous, brilliant… and barely holding herself together.

"…Yeah," he muttered.

"This is gonna be a lot."

Sokka grinned.

"So… leader guy—what's the plan?"

Deku smiled slightly.

"…First?"

He looked around the unfamiliar world of shinobi.

"We survive."

Azula crossed her arms.

"…Try not to slow me down."

The wind picked up around them.

And just like that—

Three souls given a second chance…

Stepped into a world that had no idea what was coming.
