The sky did not just crack this time
It fractured
Not in one place
Not in two
But everywhere at once like something invisible had pressed too hard against reality and it finally started giving in
Thin lines spread across the blue stretching in different directions crossing over each other forming a pattern that made no sense
People below stopped moving
Some pointed
Some ran
Some just stood frozen trying to understand what they were looking at
Hunters arriving at the scene slowed down as well
Even they had never seen something like this
"This isn't a normal breach" one of them said quietly
"No breach behaves like this" another replied gripping his weapon tighter
Above them the cracks deepened and from within those fractures a strange dim light flickered like something was trying to force its way through but wasn't fully allowed yet
On the rooftop Ren stood still watching everything unfold
For once he was not ignoring it
Not bored
Not uninterested
His eyes followed the movement of each crack like he was trying to read something hidden inside them
"…so this is how it reacts" he murmured
Behind him the man in the black suit remained silent no longer attacking no longer moving like his role had shifted
Like he was no longer the one in control
Another distortion appeared in the air
Then another
Shapes began to form slowly stepping out from those fractured lines in the sky
One figure dropped down landing on a nearby building without making a sound
Another appeared mid air then lowered itself gently like gravity didn't fully apply to it
A third one walked straight out of a crack as if it were a doorway
Each one looked similar
Same black suit
Same empty eyes
Same unnatural stillness
But something about them felt heavier
More complete
Ren counted silently
"…one two three four"
Then he stopped counting
More were still forming
"…guess you really weren't enough alone"
The first man finally spoke again
"Phase escalation initiated"
Ren let out a quiet breath almost like a laugh but without humor
"…yeah that sounds about right"
One of the new figures stepped forward slightly
Its head turned toward Ren in a perfectly smooth motion
"No hostility detected from subject prior to anomaly expansion" it said
Another responded immediately
"Correction subject eliminated SSS level threat with no measurable output"
A third voice joined
"Conclusion subject exceeds limit framework parameters"
Ren listened to them calmly
"…you guys always talk like this"
No response
Only analysis
Only calculation
He rubbed the back of his neck slightly looking up again at the sky that now looked like it might shatter completely at any moment
"…feels like the whole world is watching now"
In a way it was
Far beyond what anyone in the city could see the system itself was shifting
Layers of invisible structure were rearranging
Adjusting
Trying to contain something it did not understand
Back on the rooftop one of the figures moved first
Not toward Ren
But around him
Then another
Then another
They spread out forming a loose circle without any wasted motion
Ren noticed immediately
"…surrounding me already"
He didn't move from his spot
Didn't try to escape
Didn't seem concerned
"…so what's the plan now" he asked quietly
The first man answered
"Simultaneous engagement"
Ren smiled faintly
"…finally some effort"
They moved
All at once
No signal
No countdown
No hesitation
Multiple attacks came from different angles at the exact same moment
Perfect synchronization
Ren's body reacted instantly
He stepped forward instead of back
Slipping between two incoming strikes
His hand moved catching one attacker's arm twisting it slightly redirecting the force into another
The impact created a ripple in the air like a shock traveling through invisible glass
Another figure appeared behind him striking downward
Ren leaned just enough to avoid it the attack grazing past his shoulder tearing a small part of his coat
He turned mid movement and countered with a simple push
Not even a punch
Just a push
The figure flew back crashing into the edge of the rooftop but instead of breaking it phased slightly through it before stabilizing again
"…you're definitely stronger than the first one" Ren muttered
More attacks came
Faster now
Sharper
Less hesitation
Ren moved through them
Each motion minimal
Efficient
Almost lazy
But something was different this time
He was not untouched
A strike landed across his side
Another clipped his arm
A third forced him to actually step back
Small things
But they added up
Ren noticed it clearly
"…so this is pressure"
His breathing changed slightly not heavy not strained but more aware
More present
One of the figures spoke mid attack
"Subject adapting in real time"
"Growth rate increasing" another added
"Recommend immediate suppression"
Ren heard them
"…you're late for that"
He moved again this time faster than before
Not just reacting
Acting
He closed the distance instantly appearing in front of one of them and striking directly
The impact did not explode outward
Instead the space around the point of contact collapsed inward for a split second before snapping back violently
The figure disappeared from that spot
Not erased
Just gone somewhere else
Another attacked from above
Ren caught the strike this time gripping tighter than before
Cracks spread from his hand outward through the air visible now like thin glowing fractures
"…I can see it now" he said quietly
The figure struggled but could not pull away
For a moment
Ren simply held it there
Then released
The sudden lack of resistance sent it flying back
He turned again facing the others
"…you're not just attacking me"
A pause
"…you're adjusting the world around me"
No answer came
But the attacks did not stop
If anything they became more intense
More coordinated
Ren felt it clearly now
The space itself resisting him
Pushing back
Trying to limit him
He stepped forward again
"…that won't work"
The ground beneath him sank deeper this time forming a slight depression where he stood
The air around him distorted more heavily
The cracks in the sky above flickered in response
Another strike came
Ren didn't dodge
Didn't block
He let it hit
The impact spread through him
And for the first time
He pushed back deliberately
Not instinct
Not passive
Intentional
The figure was thrown away instantly disappearing into the fractured sky above
Silence followed for a brief second
All the other figures paused
Not fully
Just enough to register something had changed
Ren lowered his hand slowly
"…there it is"
His eyes glowed slightly brighter now the faint silver more visible than before
"…I was wondering when that would happen"
One of the figures spoke again
"Threshold exceeded"
Another responded
"System resistance failing"
The first man looked directly at Ren
"Elimination priority upgraded"
Ren exhaled softly
"…too late"
He stepped forward again
This time the rooftop did not crack
It broke
Chunks of it collapsed inward unable to support what was happening above it
But Ren didn't fall
None of them did
They stood in mid air surrounded by fractured space and a sky that no longer looked stable
Below the city had fully descended into chaos now
Evacuation alarms blared
Hunters were being pulled back
No one was allowed near anymore
"This is beyond containment" someone shouted
"We need authorization for full lockdown"
But even that felt meaningless now
Because whatever was happening above them was no longer just a fight
It was something else entirely
Back in the broken sky Ren faced them again
Outnumbered
Surrounded
And for the first time
Completely focused
"…come on" he said quietly
"Show me how far this goes"
They moved again
All of them
But this time
Ren moved first
