Chapter 58 - A Door Opened Between Worlds

The night after the Archduchess arrived did not feel like an ending.

It felt like a transition.

The Cole estate was unusually quiet, but not empty. There was a different kind of tension in the air now—less about threat, more about scale. Like everyone had quietly accepted that the world around Adrian was expanding faster than it could comfortably contain.

Adrian stood near the inner courtyard fountain again, hands in his pockets, watching the water ripple under pale moonlight.

Hannah was the first to break the silence.

"So," she said lazily, leaning against a pillar, "you've officially been accepted into vampire nobility territory."

Adrian glanced at her. "…That sounds like a problem."

"It is," Kael muttered from the side.

Selene stood with her usual stillness, but her eyes were slightly narrowed.

Lirael, however, didn't look worried.

She looked… resigned.

Niamh stepped closer to Adrian. "It is not dangerous," she said softly.

A pause.

"Just… overwhelming."

Adrian exhaled. "That sounds worse."

Before anyone could respond—

The Archduchess appeared again.

Not from the gates this time.

But from a shifting distortion in space just beyond the garden path, as if reality itself had decided to open a door for her.

Her guards followed immediately, stepping through with practiced precision.

Hannah groaned quietly. "I hate when she does that."

The Archduchess ignored her.

Her gaze went directly to Elias, who had just entered the courtyard from the estate interior.

For a moment—

Something like familiarity passed between them.

Then she spoke.

"You will come," she said simply.

Elias didn't react immediately.

"…Come where?" Adrian asked.

The Archduchess finally looked at him.

"To my domain," she replied.

A pause.

"The vampire world."

Silence.

Even Hannah straightened slightly.

Kael's eyes narrowed. "That's not a casual invitation."

Selene's expression sharpened.

Niamh blinked once.

Lirael, however, sighed under her breath.

"…Of course she would bring him there."

Adrian looked between them. "Is this optional?"

The Archduchess tilted her head slightly.

"It is an invitation," she said.

A pause.

"But refusal would be… unwise."

Adrian sighed. "So not optional."

"Correct," she replied calmly.

Hannah muttered, "She really likes being straightforward when she wants to scare people."

The Archduchess's gaze shifted back to Elias.

"You remember our last meeting," she said.

Elias finally exhaled.

"I remember enough," he replied.

A faint smile touched the Archduchess's lips.

"Oh?"

A pause.

"You ran."

Silence.

Hannah froze. "…Wait, what?"

Kael slowly turned his head toward Elias.

Selene's eyes widened just slightly.

Even Niamh looked surprised.

Elias's expression remained unchanged.

"I withdrew," he said flatly.

The Archduchess's smile widened a fraction.

"You ran," she repeated.

Elias finally looked at her directly.

"…You are a mad woman," he said calmly.

A pause.

"I have no intention of fighting you again in this life."

Silence.

Hannah burst out laughing.

Adrian blinked. "…Dad?"

Elias didn't look away from the Archduchess.

"She is reckless," he added.

"And enjoys fights that should not exist."

The Archduchess didn't deny it.

Instead, she gave a soft, almost amused hum.

"You survived," she said.

"That is already praise."

Elias replied immediately.

"It is trauma."

That made Hannah laugh harder.

Kael pinched the bridge of his nose.

Selene looked mildly impressed in a very restrained way.

Niamh covered her mouth slightly, trying not to smile.

Adrian just stared.

"…So I'm getting that I inherited chaos from both sides," he muttered.

Lirael glanced at him. "Yes."

The Archduchess finally turned back to Adrian.

"Prepare," she said.

A pause.

"You will see where my daughter comes from."

Adrian sighed. "Do I get time to mentally prepare?"

"No," she replied.

Hannah patted his shoulder. "Welcome to nobility travel."

Kael added quietly, "Don't die."

Selene stepped closer slightly. "You will be watched."

Niamh's voice was soft. "But not alone."

Lirael looked at Adrian.

"…You will understand more after this," she said quietly.

Adrian exhaled slowly.

"…Great," he said.

Then he glanced at the Archduchess.

"Let's go see your world."

The Archduchess studied him for a moment.

Then nodded once.

"Good," she said.

And the space behind her opened again.

Not a portal.

A *threshold.*

Waiting.

And Adrian Cole

Stepped toward a world even Elias Cole preferred to call "a mistake he survived."
