Chapter 90 - The Surprisingly Efficient Use of an Afternoon

The afternoon broke apart almost immediately after lunch.

Since nobody was organizing a shared activity, the current residents of the beach house just quietly decided to scatter and do their own things. Some headed down toward the beach, where the weather was too good to waste indoors. Sofia, Camila, and a few others announced a trip into town for supplies nobody strictly needed but everyone was happy to have an excuse to buy. The rest retreated upstairs to their rooms, determined to pursue naps or quiet or both.

Magnus and Alex were barely inside their room when Jade came knocking.

"Hey," she said. "You two got a minute?"

Alex glanced at Magnus inside the room and back at Jade, then stepped back to let her in. "Sure. What's up?"

"Oh, you know…" She walked in and sat down on a chair. "I figured we should probably talk. About the elephant in the room. Get the logistics out of the way sooner rather than later. In my experience, the longer you let something sit unaddressed, the more room it has to turn into a whole thing in your head." She shrugged. "Better to just handle it. And since everyone's doing their own things right now, it seems like a good time."

"That's… uh—" Magnus said as he glanced at Alex sitting down on the bed beside him, already settling into what Magnus privately thought of as her negotiation posture — one leg crossed over the other, hands folded on her knee, full attention forward, the same energy she'd brought to every version of this conversation for months now. "—smart," he finished lamely.

Alex snorted softly beside him before taking over. "Okay. So, ground rules, comfort levels, anything you're not into, anything you specifically are into, anything you need us to know going in." She glanced at Magnus. "We've had a lot of practice at this by now."

"We really have," he agreed.

Jade nodded slowly, considering. "Most of that's pretty simple for me, honestly. I don't have a lot of kinks. I don't need a lot of talking during—I know some people like the verbal thing, but I don't really need it. I'm not shy about my body, so that's not a concern." She paused. "Oh—also, just so you know, I'm asexual."

Magnus blinked.

Alex's expression didn't change much. She'd clearly understood the implications faster than he had.

"Okay," Magnus said slowly. "I know what that means."

Jade waited.

"Well, I think I do, at least," he finally finished.

That earned the faintest hint of a smile. "That's usually where the questions start."

Magnus rubbed the back of his neck. "I just don't want to assume anything."

"That's a good attitude."

"So, asexual. My limited understanding of the term is that it means you're not sexually attracted to people?"

"Yeah," Jade confirmed, pressing her lips together with an amused expression.

"And, um…" Magnus was very clearly struggling to form words.

Jade pointed at him and turned to Alex. "You're not gonna help when he's squirming like this?"

"Normally I would, if the talk was in any real danger of going sideways." Alex shrugged. "But otherwise, it's kinda fun to watch."

"Hey!" Magnus turned to her, betrayed.

"Okay. So the short version," Jade finally said. "Asexual doesn't mean I hate sex, or that I'm secretly traumatized, or that I'm just waiting for the right person to fix it. Those are all things people assume, and none of them are true. At least not for me."

"Right. Okay." He nodded.

"For me, specifically, I don't experience sexual attraction. I look at people and I can recognize, objectively, that someone's attractive, the way you'd recognize a nice painting. But it doesn't translate into wanting to have sex with them. That part just isn't there." She tilted her head slightly, thinking through how to phrase the next part. "But that's different from sex drive—which I also don't really have much of—and it's different from whether I actually enjoy sex when it happens. Those are three separate dials, kind of. Attraction, drive, and enjoyment. Mine just don't all move together the way they seem to for most people."

"So… you don't want sex? Or do you… enjoy it?"

"It's…" She thought about how to best explain it, then: "Think of it like food. Some people are constantly hungry. Some people have favorite foods they crave. Some people hate eating and survive on the bare minimum of food intake. Some people don't really care about food that much but still enjoy eating when they're in the mood."

Magnus blinked, then nodded. "So which one are you?"

"The last type. Except I don't have an appetite that spontaneously appears because someone walks into the room."

Alex snorted. "That's actually a pretty good explanation."

Jade shrugged. "I'm not sex-repulsed. I'm basically neutral, with a tendency toward favorable depending on the circumstances. I can enjoy it. I can enjoy intimacy. I can find the experience pleasant. I just don't experience the part where my brain goes, 'I want that person.'"

Magnus absorbed that. "So you can want sex without being sexually attracted to someone."

"Exactly."

"Okay." He raised a hand. "Can I ask something without it sounding stupid?"

"Probably," Jade said.

He gave her a look. "How do you know you're asexual if you've never experienced sexual attraction?"

Jade smiled faintly. "How do you know you're straight if you've never been attracted to everyone on Earth?"

Magnus paused. "Okay. Fair."

"It's just a pattern. You notice what you do and don't feel. At some point, the absence stops looking like coincidence."

Magnus hesitated, glancing over at Alex, who had been quiet for a while, processing everything.

"So this, with us… is that something you actually want?" she asked the question that he probably was thinking about as well. "Or is it just because he'll die otherwise?"

Jade smiled. "The whole dying by Sunday is certainly a strong incentive, but no, it's not the main reason I'm here talking to you two about this. I like you both. I've liked watching how you are with each other since I got here—it's kind of disgustingly sweet, honestly—and I'm curious, and I trust you both enough at this point to actually enjoy this instead of just enduring it." She looked at Magnus directly. "You're not going to be forcing anything on me. I promise you that. You've got a reputation with practically every girl you've slept with, Magnus, in case you've forgotten about that. For someone who just enjoys sex for sex, that's basically a lot of five-star reviews if we're using the food metaphor again."

"Don't remind me!" Alex groaned while Magnus started blushing furiously. Jade simply laughed.

"For what it's worth, you didn't sound dumb," she said after a moment. "You sounded like someone actually trying to get it right. Most people don't bother asking at all. They just assume, and then get weird about it, or overcorrect and start walking on eggshells, which is its own kind of annoying." She smiled slightly. "You did neither. So, credit where it's due."

"Thanks!" He blinked, surprised by the compliment.

That eased the tension considerably.

"Okay. Anything else either of you need to know, or are we good to move forward with the actual logistics part?"

Alex glanced at Magnus, a silent check-in they'd developed without ever discussing it, and he nodded.

"I think we're good," Alex said. "Anything specific you want? Positions, pace, anything off-limits?"

"Nothing off-limits that I can think of," Jade said. "I'm pretty easy to work with. Just… go at whatever pace feels natural. I'll tell you if something's not working. I'm not shy about speaking up. Though if you want to know what I prefer, then doggystyle, probably."

"Noted," Alex said, already smiling in a way that suggested she appreciated directness more than almost anything else a partner could offer.

"One more thing," Jade added, glancing between them. "Don't treat me like I'm fragile about this. I've had that happen before—people find out and suddenly they're tiptoeing, overexplaining everything, checking in every four seconds like I'm going to shatter. I'm not going to shatter. I know what I want. Just treat me like a person who knows her own mind, because I am one."

"Okay," they said in unison.

Alex tilted her head. "Anything else you don't want us to assume?"

Jade thought for a moment. "No, I think we've covered everything."

She stood up, stretching, the conversation apparently concluded to her satisfaction. "Cool. Then I'm gonna go shower and change." She paused. "Do you two want to get to it right after that, while everyone's still out doing their own things, or do you want to wait until tonight?"

They glanced at each other.

"Either works," Alex said. "Though I'm leaning toward tonight."

"Nuh uh." Magnus shook his head. "That just risks starting another accidental couple competition."

"It's a beach house tradition at this point." She laughed easily.

Instead of arguing, he turned to Jade. "Looks like you're the deciding vote."

"Alright." Jade chuckled. "I'll see you both after I'm done with my shower."

"See you in a bit," Alex said.

They watched her slip out of the room, heading toward the shower. Once the door clicked shut behind her, Alex turned to Magnus, expression softer than it had been a moment ago.

"You did good," she said. "Asking like that."

"I was terrified I was going to say something wrong."

"You didn't." She leaned her head against his shoulder. "You never really do, when it actually matters. And you're sweet."

"You know, I think I'm getting better at these talks."

"You are." Alex laughed. "But don't get too confident."

"Why?"

"Because somehow, every time you think you've figured out how these conversations work, our lives—or that System of yours—find a new way to make them more complicated."

Magnus considered that. And, unfortunately, he had a feeling she was right.

***

Jade stepped back into the room about ten minutes later, fresh from the shower and wrapped in a simple robe. Her expression was as composed as ever, though there was a softness in her eyes that acknowledged the weight of the moment without making it heavier than it needed to be.

Magnus and Alex were already on the bed, tangled in a slow, familiar kiss. When Jade entered, they broke apart and looked toward her.

For a brief moment, nobody moved. It wasn't fear, exactly. More so the natural hesitation that came with actually crossing a line they'd spent the last hour carefully talking through.

"You're overthinking it again, babe," Alex murmured, catching the look on his face and rubbing soothing circles on his back.

She reached a hand out toward Jade. "Come here."

Jade smiled faintly and didn't hesitate. She shed her robe and climbed onto the mattress.

She started with Alex — slow and exploratory — before shifting her attention to Magnus. Her touch was steady, almost matter-of-fact, none of the uncertainty he'd half-expected from himself, let alone from her. If anything, her composure settled his nerves more effectively than anything else could have.

He responded with an affectionate squeeze on her waist, his eyes searching hers for any flicker of hesitation.

"I'm good," Jade said simply.

That was enough. The conversation was over. The logistics had been settled. Everyone knew what they wanted, what they didn't, and that any of them could stop at any point if they were uncomfortable without it becoming a problem.

They started slowly. There was no sudden rush to turn the moment into something bigger than it was. Alex pulled Jade closer first, their mouths meeting in unhurried kisses that deepened gradually. Hands roamed with deliberate care — Alex's fingers tracing the curve of Jade's breast, then lower, parting her thighs to stroke her open and wet. Jade mirrored the pace, sliding two fingers inside Alex and curling them in steady rhythm while her thumb circled her clit. Magnus watched them for a moment before joining in, his hand covering Jade's to guide the pressure as he kissed down Alex's neck. He took his time, paying attention to the small reactions and adjustments that told him what worked.

As they settled into a shared rhythm, Jade remained remarkably comfortable taking the lead when she wanted to. Alex seemed to recognize that immediately, following rather than trying to redirect her. Magnus, meanwhile, kept watching for the signals Jade had promised she'd give if something wasn't working… and found none.

If anything, she was completely present, even more than either of them, and entirely unbothered by any expectation to perform enjoyment she wasn't feeling.

That realization made him relax further.

When he focused Affective Discernment partway through — an old habit by now, checking rather than assuming — the read came back warm and steady: comfort, trust, genuine enjoyment.

He let the power fade and simply stayed in the moment.

Jade moved onto her hands and knees, guiding Magnus behind her. He slid into her in one smooth thrust, hands steady on her hips. She lowered her mouth to Alex, tongue working in the same measured pace as his hips. Magnus used a light touch of telekinesis to tilt Jade's angle just enough for deeper contact that made her moan. "Mạnh lên!" (Harder!)

The Vietnamese slipped out, and Magnus obliged to her request, picking up his pace as their shared rhythm shifted to something more frantic.

As the intensity built, Jade lifted her head. "Pull my hair," she panted.

He gathered the strands into a ponytail and tugged, firm but controlled, while his other hand gripped her waist. The pull drew a low sound from her that vibrated against Alex.

As he continued, Jade threw her head back and moaned, her Vietnamese slipping out freely. "Chị sướng… Mạnh nữa lên! Sướng lắm!" (Feels good… Harder! Feels so good!)

Without Jade's mouth on her, Alex reached between her own legs to keep the rhythm going while watching them.

By the time the intensity began to ease, the three of them had settled into something less frantic and more intimate. Whatever awkwardness Magnus had feared at the start was long gone. There was simply the three of them, working out a new rhythm as they went.

Jade guided Magnus onto his back and straddled him while facing Alex so the three of them could stay connected — her hand guiding Alex's mouth to her breast while Magnus thrust up into her and Alex sank down onto his mouth. And it was in this position that they found their release in succession.

When it was finally over, they collapsed into a loose tangle of limbs and sheets, the room falling quiet around them save for their shared ragged breaths.

Magnus discarded the used condom and lay between them, one arm draped over each woman, his breathing gradually settling. For all the planning and talking they'd done beforehand, the reality of it had felt surprisingly simple. None of them were uncomfortable or second-guessing what had just happened. It'd felt like they were just three people who'd trusted each other enough to try something new.

Jade rested her head against his chest, her breathing returning to its usual steady pace.

"Yeah, I can see why everyone who's ever tasted you gave five-star reviews," she said. "That was a very efficient use of our afternoon."

Alex laughed and kissed Jade's temple. "Efficient? I think we can call it a success."

Magnus didn't reply right away; he was staring at the System's familiar notification:

[System Notification: Conquest Quest Complete — Seduction Achieved. Reward: Permanent Linguistic Attunement Unlocked.]

[+1% to all Stats.]

[Linguistic Attunement Leveled Up: Fluency Adjusted.]

"Fluency adjusted," he murmured, half to himself.

"What?"

"The power—Linguistic Attunement—its level-up description says that."

"What does that even mean?" Alex asked, not opening her eyes.

"No idea yet. Guess I'll find out."
