Chapter 7 - Mirror’s Edge

Lena's eyes narrowed, her mind racing . "Playing with fire?" she repeated, her voice firm . "What does that mean?"

Elian's gaze didn't waver . "It means someone's using you, Lena," he said, his voice low and urgent . "The entity's power is a game to them – a way to gain control ."

The taxi driver glanced in the mirror , his eyes curious. Elian tossed him a wad of cash . "Take us to the old warehouse district ."

Lena's phone buzzed again . Another message: "Meet me at the docks at midnight . Come alone." .

Lena's eyes widened as she stared at the message . "Meet me at the docks?" she repeated, her voice barely above a whisper . Elian's expression turned grim .

Suddenly, the taxi driver slammed on the brakes , throwing them both forward . Elian cursed, grabbing Lena's arm . "Get out, now!"

As they stumbled onto the sidewalk, Lena saw why : the driver's face was... melting . His eyes turned into black holes , and he whispered, "I'm not who you think I am ."

Elian yanked her away , just as the driver's body... unfolded . Like origami , he stretched and contorted, revealing a figure Lena knew .

It was her – Lena – but with glowing red eyes .

😱 The plot just thickened 😈.

Lena's mind shattered 🤯. She stared at the... thing 😵 – it looked like her, sounded like her 👥, but those eyes 🔥 were pure evil 👿. "What... what is that?" she stammered, her voice shaking 💭.

Elian's grip on her arm tightened . "It's a doppelganger ," he growled, pulling her away from the... thing . "Someone's playing a deadly game with you, Lena ."

The doppelganger's face twisted into a cruel smile . "I'm the one who's been watching you, Lena 👀," it said, its voice like hers but with an echo . "And I'm the one who's going to take over ."

Lena's phone buzzed again . A message from... herself : "The docks. Midnight. Come alone ."

Elian's eyes locked onto hers . "It's a trap ," he whispered. "But we can use it to our advantage ."

Lena's heart was racing . She stared at Elian, her mind spinning . "Use it to our advantage?" she repeated, her voice firm . "How?"

Elian's expression turned calculating . "We create a trap within a trap ," he said, his voice low and urgent . "You go to the docks, but I'm the one pulling the strings ."

The doppelganger's laughter echoed , making Lena's skin crawl . "You can't beat me, Lena," it said, its voice like hers but twisted . "I'm you – the real you ."

Suddenly, the doppelganger vanished , leaving behind a small piece of paper . On it, a single word: "Midnight ."

Lena's eyes met Elian's . "It's time to take back control ," he said, his voice grim .

As they hatched their plan, the city streets seemed to darken . The clock was ticking. The final showdown .

Lena and Elian crouched in the shadows, the wind whipping through the abandoned docks . The clock tower loomed, striking midnight . Lena's heart pounded as she saw... herself , standing on the edge of the dock, staring out at the water .

The doppelganger's eyes glowed red as it turned to face her . "Welcome, Lena," it said, its voice like hers but with an echo . "Time to say goodbye ."

Elian's grip on her arm tightened . "Now," he whispered .

Lena stepped forward, her voice firm . "I'm not going anywhere with you," she said, her eyes locked on the doppelganger .

The doppelganger laughed , raising its hands . The air crackled with energy – and then, everything went white .

Lena stumbled back, blinded . Elian caught her, his voice in her ear . "It's a mirror portal . We need to get through – now !"
